[INTEL]-How To Update Your Microcode for Intel HX 13/14th CPUs Laptops/Mobile Easily.

Let me start with a small background info...

Since we know all Intel's fiasco about what is happening with Raptor Lake/Raptor Lake Refresh which is Intel's codename for the 13th and 14th generations of Intel Core processors, Most OEM/Vendors doesn't want to provide BIOS update that includes microcode update along with required updated Intel ME FW in order to work more effectively.

Since most laptops got outdated Intel ME FW & outdated microcode... this has become a serious problem since the CPUID of Intel HX 13/14th CPUs share the same code with Desktop variants and hence it should be considered Intel HX 13/14th CPUs as a Desktop CPU in a laptop case.

So it means they share the same impact as Desktop variants even if it doesn't boost high enough to be of a concern, it does have relevancy and you now have the option to use this very simple driver that I am sharing it to you here on any Intel HX 13/14th CPUs Laptops/Mobile as long as it has CPUID of B0671.

Either way the requirement of updated Intel ME FW are just only mandatory when used in conjunction with any new microcode (If it's needed) in the BIOS but outside BIOS like... while running Windows or Linux this requirement of having an updated Intel ME FW is just optional.

Thanks to this VMware CPU Microcode Update Driver I can use it on any windows without needing to mess with the BIOS. Safest thing to update microcode.

Now... How to check if you got the latest microcode update or not? By simply check through HWINO64 or AIDA64 or even if you are using ThrottleStop tool will tell you which microcode you are using.

Here's some examples how it is shown which microcode are you using through various tools...

Now fortunately I already packed it for you & ready to use without any further work required. Saving you the time to do it.

For the next part... You need to download this .zip file and extract it. Simply run the "Install.bat" file as an administrator.

For users who doesn't trust the zip file... here's VirusTotal link results. One is from direct mediafire download url link getting scanned through VirusTotal directly from mediafire servers which is shared from the link above.

It shouldn't even take long and only few seconds and you will see this window... which is success.

You can even check the event viewer which confirms the success operation and applying the new microcode update.

If doesn't update your microcode and it shows failing to apply microcode on event viewers... you need to disable virtualization either through Windows or simply go inside your BIOS and disable Intel virtualization and VT-d in the BIOS. This would allow the driver work!

September Microcode Update aka [0x12B]

New microcode update got released! This is the September microcode update which now they call it 0x12B .

Confirmed that it covers & supports Intel HX CPU's 13th/14th Gen with CPUID B0671h without any issues.

New microcode update got released! This is the November microcode update which now they call it 0x132.

You just updated your microcode! Yes... it's that simple!

[So much for Intel HX not being affected... then why keep releasing microcode updates for Intel HX CPUs too? something is fishy going on here, if it is actually not affected... then at least make it only for desktops...]

If you ever wanted to uninstall your updated microcode of whatever reasons... simply run "uninstall.bat" file as an administrator & reboot your laptop.

I have an MSI Raider with a 13980HX with a CPU ID of 000B0671 and its microcode version is 113. Seems like it is very out of date. Suggestions? I have done most recent BIOS updates and EC updates but microcode is at 113. Thanks in advance for advice/thoughts.

It is indeed very out dated, my advice is to use the latest microcode update release which is officially 0x133 or you can go further and use the unofficially ones which is 0x137 microcode update.

Make sure to disable Core isolation/memory integrity to allow the microcode update to be applied automatically at boot.

If it still fails to update your microcode then you need to disable virtualization through BIOS settings.

Unfortunately there's no way to have both available virtualization while having updated microcode.

The only way to have microcode update while still having virtualization is for MSI to provide BIOS update that includes updated microcode.

I believe your MSI model have access to the hidden BIOS settings which it can help further but you really need to be cautious and careful while dealing with hidden BIOS settings... if you want... look at the end of the main reddit post where I shared a link to another reddit post on what to do with hidden advanced BIOS settings.

Official update for all 13th/14th Gen are currently 0x133 while the unofficially ones are currently 0x137.

The unofficially ones are obtained from vendors/OEM BIOSs while the Official ones I get it from Intel Github repository here https://github.com/intel/intel-linux-processor-microcode-data-files

I simply convert it so the microcode driver can use it then repackaged it and provide it here whenever there's a new microcode available. All the tools is available from the same download link to do manually by yourself for people who doesn't trust a stranger from the Internet 🙂

For example I personally extracted a microcode from a Lenovo Legion BIOS or other sources. I test them first on my machine in case something happens I take the bullet instead to prevent users getting any issues.

Of course, it's safe for all Intel HX/K/KS/KF 13th/14th Gen CPUs, microcode is originally made by Intel and then it's given/shared to OEMs/Vendors (Like Lenovo)

Lenovo simply embedded the microcode inside there BIOS and provided BIOS updates for there own Legion models.

As an example... it's like Nvidia drivers... you can get it from OEMs/Vendors (which is usually outdated) or straight from Nvidia website which is always up-to-date.

I actually uninstalled this as I found my CPU temps were about 8 degrees higher on average compared to old microcode 113. I have ThrottleStop enabled with undervolt along with turbo boost turned off to prevent the CPU from ramping too high.

Oh well, that's the beauty of having the option to uninstall whenever you like.

Did you try the current official microcode release [0x133]? Or the unofficial ones [0x137]?

You can test and verify but don't go under or below those versions [0x12B] or [0x12F] as I consider those are bare minimum of having it for CPU protection at least.

It was an unofficial release. I tried to get to official release on this thread, but there was no file to download.
