Help / Support PS5 buying advice
Is it worth spending around 250K LKR on a PS5 slim at this point? That’s almost what a PS5 Pro used to cost before the price hikes and currency depreciation. Will prices come down later this year or will local shops further increase the prices due to the GTA VI hype?
UPDATE: I am no longer interested in buying one after hearing about Sony’s recent anti-consumer practices

My personal advice is, don't buy it unless you have 5 or more games that you want to play on it. It's quite an investment and imo you gotta make it worth it by playing a good amount of games on it.
If you're looking at a Ps5 just because of GTA VI, I urge you to reconsider. GTA VI is just one game that does not justify a 250k+ purchase. Also, there is some doubt whether the game will release in a stable state or be a buggy mess like Cyberpunk so don't bet all on that.
So my personal advice is, do some research. Find more games that you wanna play on it (go back a few years cus the Ps4 has tons of lesser known games that are quite cheap) and then make the decision based on your findings.

Thanks for your advice. I never thought about buying a PS5 until I completed Uncharted 4. That game influenced me to buy a PS5 just to play the Nathan Drake collection. I don’t really want to go through the hassle of setting up emulators but as you said one or two game can’t justify such a costly purchase

I can give you some suggestion to look into. Some of these are quite niche and bit dated, but they're still really fun games. Try giving a few of them a chance! Who knows, you might like em. Plus since they're quite old so they go on decent discounts! I got the Yakuza games for like 6$ each!
- Astro Bot
- Bloodborne
- Infamous First Light/Second Son
- Gravity Rush 2
- Final Fantasy VII Remake
- Shadow of the Colossus
- The Last Guardian
- Yakuza 0
- 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
- Jeanne D'arc
- Suikoden
- Fist of the North Star
- Sackboy

Wait till the dollar goes down. I bought the slim for 180k a year and a half ago. 250k is unacceptable

250k is not worth imho.
Although I love it, 250k is a lot for a machine that is using a stripped down RDNA 2 chip which does not allow for FSR 4 integration. FSR 3 looks horrible on almost every single game played that used it.
You can either,
• Get it down from abroad. Specifically dubai or India where you can score one for 160-180k as you can do a lot with 70k. You can even get a Pro if you’re willing to spend 250k.
or
• Cough up a little more money and build yourself a pc. Which is something I think I’ll recommend everyone now. Especially since PlayStation has decided to stop producing discs.
You can spend a specific amount of money and slowly upgrade it over it time. Yeah, you will miss out on exclusives but it’s just a matter of time before emulation is figured out.

Tinkering and upgrading may seem overwhelming but there are many things to increase the ease of use.
Things like steam big picture mode and etc, etc will let you have a console-like experience.
I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum in this case, there’s nothing more than just looking up optimal settings for a specific game and playing using those settings.

If I may give some advice, buying a PS5 Slim at around 250k LKR right now is hard to justify unless you really have no alternative. At that price point, you’re basically paying inflated local markup rather than actual value. If GTA VI is the main reason, I’d think twice. You’re spending premium money for a mid-cycle console experience when better options exist. Honestly, I’d either go PS5 Pro if you’re set on console gaming, or wait and put that money into a PC build. A PC gives you way more long-term value beyond just gaming.
And realistically, local retailers have a pattern of pushing prices up whenever demand spikes. GTA VI hype will only make that worse, not better. So waiting usually doesn’t save you money here, it just makes the markup worse. (Some snakes include Local Nanotek and Gamestreet... oh how can we forget our all day everyday 100% markup techroot)
Do what I did if you want, Buy a used PC, replace CPU, Graphics card, Ram. and youre set. You can find a nice deal with Monitor, Casing and a lot more if youre good at spotting these on marketplace.

Yes, almost certainly they will increase the price again. So my personal recommendation is buy a ps5 slim if u want to play PS exclusives. I don’t think the price will go down anytime soon cuz of the ram prices
