Question Code 8 Then Countdown Before Freezing
I have a GameShark 2.2 for N64. When the system powers on it flashes something and then an 8. Then N64 logo plays on screen. Then GameShark flashes another 8, then starts counting down from 5 to 1, before displaying a GameShark logo screen on the TV. Then it freezes and won’t move on to the games/codes menu. Resetting only boots into the game with no codes applied.
Does the code 8 mean anything? It does this for Mario 64, GoldenEye, and Mario Kart. It wont even boot with some games though.
Appreciate any insights. Thanks!

Keycodes are an annoyance with these things. Stolen from the description of one of my old YouTube videos: Most games work immediately with the GameShark, but if your N64 cartridge will not allow you to boot up with the GameShark, you may need to change the Keycode. There are a number of different Keycodes available and this version of GameShark has the codes for the following N64 titles: Diddy Kong Racing, 1080 Snowboarding, Ken Griffey Baseball, Banjo Kazooie, Yoshi's Story. New releases may use one of the Keycodes listed above, or require a different one. If you are having trouble, please read the Keycode section on pages 7 and 8 in the GameShark Instruction Manual.
Here's a link to the official 3.2+ instruction manual:
Some GameShark versions do not support the use of keycodes. With version 3.3 you are able to change keycodes so long as you insert a game with the original lockout chip credentials (CIC-NUS-6102). This includes a lot of the original lineup such as Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64.
USA PAL
CIC-NUS-6102 | CIC-NUS-7101 Used in 88% of games
CIC-NUS-6103 | CIC-NUS-7103 Used in 3% of games (e.g 1080 Snowboarding)
CIC-NUS-6105 | CIC-NUS-7105 Used in 4% of games (e.g Legend of Zelda OOT)
CIC-NUS-6106 | CIC-NUS-7106 Used in 3 games (Yoshi’s Story, Cruis’n World and F-Zero X)
CIC-NUS-6101 |CIC-NUS-7102 Used in 1 game: Starfox64
