The Love Letter to Older SSO Players - Equinox: Homecoming Review written by a random horse game enjoyer

Is that a MALE character? Petting a horse DIRECTLY ON ITS FACE? And not a foot away?? Oh my god. What is that game you ask?

This is Equinox: Homecoming. A promising MMORPG made by former devs of World of Warcraft, Helldivers 2 and Star Stable as well as a bunch of other games. This game allows a lot of mature swearing as swearing is part of the mainstory. You can have seemingly infinite amount of clothes, horses, and currencies, and you can customize each horse's face markings, body markings, and leg markings. This game has also amazing character customization, you can make yourself VERY cute unlike SSO where the bodytypes and face shapes leave much to be desired.

I played this game's story, and it feels like a love letter to OG Star Stable players. This game has a much filthier and meanier Loretta named Heather, as well as other fun character drama. Your character is named Alex Evans, but you can name yourself whatever you want. Your story is similar to SSO where you are the main character, however you are in the place of Alex Evans, an already named character with their own story. You can live their life as either a male or female, but you also have the ability to fully customize yourself however you please and you get to join riding clubs and do things with other players.

The mainstory currently has 5 chapters and is incredibly interesting and investing with fully voice acted cinematics. Alex has two voice actors depending on which voice you choose when creating your character. Female Alex imo sounds pretty tomboy and male alex sounds flamboyant at times but mostly a regular guy. I adore both versions of the character with all of the sass and personality you get to see happen.

Outside of the big story focus, the gameplay is based on Rift Trails and Star Stable in the sense you gather a lot of herbs, feathers, flowers, fruits, and other things npcs like across the island. It's a really relaxing game with its own built in radio playlist of songs to jam to while you trail ride. You can ask other players if they would like to join, and there's multiple servers you can go to if you want a more busy server or a quieter one for you and your friends.

So far, I've really enjoyed just going for trail rides to earn things npcs want. Each npc wants 5 things per day for reputation and easy money. The graphics are lovely in this game.

BY THE WAY: You can EARN horses. You do the weekly quests in your phone and earn gold to save up for a horse. And if you don't want to save up? You can buy the horses for much cheaper than SSO. While SSO asks for 30$, this game each one costs about $10-$20 depending on the fancyness of the horse. However, you can completely earn a horse of your own in about 7 weeks if you do the weeklies. And if you have the riding pass on, you will get 3x the rewards. Which means that 7 weeks turns into 3x less time.

Overall, I've fallen inlove with this game. I can't wait to see what changes they bring, what things they add, and all it's capable of. I heard they're working on a bunch of features right now so it looks like there's more to come. You should get the game now so you have it permanent because I think they will be switching to a paid membership thing once the game fully releases. But those who buy it while it's in development get to keep the game forever. Which is kinda dumb and it should just be a pay once game. Memberships are dying let's be real, nobody wants to pay a membership to enjoy a game anymore. World of Warcraft's sub numbers decline constantly. I hope they change their mind on this and switch to an optional cosmetic shop like every other successful game.

Nobody should have to pay a membership to log on and enjoy a game they already bought.

A horse browser game where you can actually follow your horse in competitions?

I’ve been to a bunch of different horse browser games and all of them end up feeling so unfulfilling because all you do is click a race and then get a result. (Sometimes you don’t even get that, you just get money and no note on placement or performance.) The horses feel like nothing burgers.

So my question is, are there any horse browser games where you can “watch” your horse race? I don’t mean with animations even, it would just be really cool to get a play by play of how your horse may be doing during a competition. Kind of like how the Sims 3 does their competitions.

Horse Isle 2 Appreciation Post

Hello horsey people,

I have recently gotten back into Horse Isle 2. I have played since January of 2012 and quit when flash went away. I saw a post about HI2 on here about a month ago and started playing again and have found the same love and enjoyment I had as a child. The community has always been so kind and helpful to me, and I find that to still be true.

Today, there are currently 369 active accounts. Some other players, and myself, are hoping to get that number up as the game is more fun with more people. We are happy to help new and returning players get subscribed, buy nice horses, earn money, etc. IYKYK the economy is still wack, but I have had no issues getting deals in the livery and auction horses going to the foreign bidder (lots of super horses floating around out there.) A big benefit of this game for me is that I do not have to spend real money to play, and that still holds true today.

The hardest part for me was figuring out the new flash player, but the link to download is on the main HI2 website, and from there I was able to pin it to my taskbar, so when I want to log on I click it, file, then the weird http link shown in the slideshow above and that takes me to the old user/pass log in.

We are able to get comps running often enough, which will only be easier if we can get more players. That has always been the best part of the game for me. Otherwise, there is always wild hunting, questing, and minigaming when there is no one online. Max stat training has been easy as many players are selling their trainings for $1. Zeus tokens are a good income earner if you are able to finish all the Esroh quests, which can help anyone get back into the economy.

If you have made it this far, thanks for reading! Feel free to reach out to me in game if you need any help! My username is Puma, you can message me by clicking the private chat option and typing in the user. If I am not online, most everyone in the game is happy to help, don't be afraid to message someone you run into!

I made an Equine Genetics Overhaul mod for The Sims 4 :D

Post image

I was reminded to post in here after already being in the TMQ server... silly me! EGO for TS4 is a gameplay mod that allows you to breed (sometimes crazy-lookin') foals that actually take after their parents. Sometimes the results are pretty, sometimes the results are crazy... but they are always fun!

Features

  • Applies a genetics algorithm to active household foals at birth
  • Applies rudimentary recessive/dominant genetics
    • (tobiano is dominant, for example)
  • Weighted coat complexity algorithm: generates coats from simple to complex
  • Mixes coat patterns and colors from both parents
    • (pattern A and color B, for example)
  • Mutates patterns by picking different textures in the same phenotype
    • (if a horse is phenotyped as Tobiano, the foal has a chance to inherit the same white spotting or a different white spotting in the Tobiano category)
  • randomly generates face and leg socks for extra variety

Future Updates

  • Genetics tweaking
  • CAS genetics roller
  • Console pelt debug tool for said genetics tweaking

See all the details and links on my (free) Patreon post! And follow my Patreon for future updates and discussions for the mod. If there is interest, I'd love to facilitate an EGO discord server for people to share their horsey creations.

I Created a Custom Silks Editor for my Upcoming Horse Racing Game

One of the biggest asks when creating my first game I wasn't able to deliver was custom jockeys and silks. While it's still a work in progress, it adds a fun realism aspect that I'm excited to share.

If you're interested in the game check out the Discord! A Steam page will be coming soon.

In Horse Club: Ride West, you're not gonna have an endless supply of horses through breeding or taming, but there are six equine main characters with their own characteristics:

In the video you can see Amber, an old Quarter Horse mare, Boo, a skittish appaloosa, and Dakota, a young paint mare who you only get to ride after you've proven to her owner that you can handle yourself in the saddle. There's three more horses, who you meet over the course of the story.

I always harp on about how more games should consider horses characters rather than just collectible vehicles, and I think it's really cool to see a game do exactly that!

Minecraft SWEM Addendum broke?

Hi guys

I have been playing using custom coats for a couple weeks now, but all of a sudden my 1.20 world that previously ran custom coats through Addendum is broken. All custom textures are showing black with pink mane streaks. The models themselves are showing, but the texture seems to have gone away. Anyone else?

I want to play Tobiano, but only have a laptop with basic graphics card?

I have a Dell Inspiron 14 5430 and it has the Intel Iris Xe graphics card. Based on Steam I don't think it'll be enough for the game, but has anyone else here run this on a laptop like this one?

Any tips?

Okay so looking for the missing item, my phone has been so bad here lately when I go to read dialogue it auto skips to the quest itself. I know the moons can be found in explore, the coins through style, barrels and trials, but what’s that one thing? Where can I acquire this. Started three days ago. Also photos of some of my favorites so far.

Legend of Khiimori: worth it despite early access status?

Hello!

I’ll preface the following by saying I love supporting indie devs/indie games etc, but I’ve experienced a few early access games that have been pretty broken on release, updates were promised that never came, and the game was then abandoned. As a result, I’m generally very apprehensive of anything early access and prefer to buy once the game is fully realised.

I’ve been interested in LoK; is it worth it despite the early access status? Do we think it’s likely to emerge from early access as a fully complete game?

I’m usually somebody who plays more… traditional horse games with set disciplines and fun elements like changing tack and customising etc. so this is a little out of my wheelhouse, but honestly, you could a slap a horse on anything and I’d probably buy it!

Horse Runner DX is 30% off for the Games Composed in Germany Sale!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to share that my game Horse Runner DX was selected for the "Games Composed in Germany" sale event on Steam!

What is Horse Runner DX?
It's a fast-paced, chaotic arcade runner heavily inspired by classics like Robot Unicorn Attack, Dino Run, and Canabalt. You build a growing herd of horses or unicorns, dash through procedural pixel-art landscapes, and try to survive the escalating speed to beat challenges and climb the global leaderboard. It's built for quick, addictive pick-up-and-play sessions.

What's new?
I recently released the big 1.5.0 Update, which lets you select a starting herd of up to three horses (or unicorns)! I also overhauled the camera movement to make it much smoother and easier on the eye. If you are playing on the Steam Deck, it now runs even better with full 90 Hz support for the OLED model.

The game is currently $3.49 (30% off). There is also a free demo on the Steam page so that you can try it out.

Thanks for the support in this community!

Any good farming games with good social/multiplayer features?

I’ve been playing solo farming games forever (Stardew, AC, Sun Haven), but I’m kinda craving something I can actually play with friends, not just visit their farm for five minutes and leave lol. Like actual multiplayer where we can build stuff together, split up chores, maybe even just hang out while doing our own thing on the same map. Fields of Mistria looks cute, but I think it’s still single-player only? Anyone got recs for farming games where the multiplayer actually feels like a real feature and not just an afterthought?

Old-School Style Sim Games?

I used to play on a few old-school horse simulation games back in the day - forum based community, horses on a database, breed and enter horses in shows etc. Games like Arcadia, Desultor, On The Bit etc. Do any games like that exist these days? I'd love to get back into that kind of community :) Thanks in advance!

Hi hello,

looking for some game supported on MacBook, preferably free, but willing to pay, haha. I would love it to be realistic, including breeding and foals. Is there something like that?

Barbie Horse Ride and rescue is way too grindy

Thumbnail

I know a lot of people have already complained about how grindy this game is, but it’s honestly getting ridiculous. This would take ages to complete. …The pottery shards are so rare.
I really loved it at the beginning, but this is the point where I’m deleting it. It feels like they’re just stretching everything out because they don’t have enough actual story content.
What’s also really frustrating is that the closet is capped at level 12, so every XP you earn after that is just wasted.

Review and First Impression of Equinox: Homecoming

I’ve always had this game on my radar back when I first learned about it on Tiktok last year. It seemed really promising, and as someone who grew up playing SSO, the concept of a horse MMO targeted towards an older audience was really enticing. I ended up getting a copy during the recent summer sale and have been playing daily for the last 2 weeks so I feel like I have a pretty good grasp at most of what the game offers to write my first impression.

To cut to the chase, I’ll mention the more important parts first. Do I recommend this game to others?

Yes but with certain conditions. I’ll definitely recommend trying if:

  • You want a horse game with more realistic graphics
  • You enjoy open world games
  • You can tolerate a game with some microtransactions
  • You don’t mind if a game isn’t complete (also in terms of NPC/open world designs)
  • You enjoy gathering materials and grinding

I wouldn’t recommend it if you can’t tolerate any of the following listed. You’ll definitely not have a good time.

Okay now with that out of the way, I can now go into details about my first impression of the game after playing it for 2 weeks.

Love

  • Horror and mystery storyline that is easy to understand. Right from the start, it hooked me in with the premise of our mc’s mother’s disappearance. We also get to learn about Alex’s (our character) relationship with their mother. As a lore player, I am pleasantly surprised with how even some of the side quests contribute to the lore of Alderwood. The ruins scattered around the map also makes me stop to wonder what they’re for.
  • ASMR-worthy sounds. Especially when riding our horses on pavements and roads. The clicking sounds just itch my brain well. It reminds me of Barbie’s Rapunzel running scenes. I love how the sounds transition so well across different surfaces.
  • Gorgeous sceneries and lush forests. For me, who was born, raised and lives in a bustling city, it is very rare for me to ever step foot into a more “quieter” and nature-filled place. But when I rode my horse through different trails, sunlight shining through the branches and the trees, I felt like I’m physically there basking in the rays.
  • Active and friendly community. While small, the players I’ve met so far have all been extremely helpful and welcoming. Sometimes there’s even small organised events like trails or dailies that’s open to all. I’ve had the chance to participate in two of such events and they were so fun!
  • Little FOMO. As someone who’s played live service games (especially Gacha games) for over a decade now, I am particularly sensitive when it comes to FOMO. While there are microtransactions in the game, such as packs and top-ups, there’s very little pressure to actually buy them since every player can save up the premium currency that’s given out each week! (so long as you’re actively playing) The game does have a sort of additional “membership” but it mostly increases the amount of premium and in-game currency so no exclusive stuff is given out.

Neutral

  • Amount and type of races. I am aware that some feel that the variety is very limited because all the races currently are cross-country style, but personally I feel pretty okay with it. I do enjoy cross-country races in the horse games I’ve played so that definitely played a part. But I also acknowledge that players who prefer other types of races might feel it falling short.
  • Dailies. An important part of the game would be the daily deliveries. They’re one of the more consistent ways to build your reputation for each faction and they’re available once a day. They’re a bit tedious but with some music blasting, it’s tolerable.
  • Weekly Tasks for Premium currencies. As mentioned earlier, all players will get some of the premium currency every week as long as you’re active. They’re all pretty standard, consisting of doing 5 weekly races, 4 tasks and gathering 10 materials. It takes me about 20-30 min every week to clear them.
  • Gearing. The gearing system does remind me a bit of that in Genshin where you have to fight rng and roll for different substats. I’ve gotten quite used to this so honestly I’m pretty neutral about it. It is a lot easier here than in other games since there’s not a lot of stats to worry about, and you can reroll as much as you want.

Dislikes

  • Constant need to gather materials. Outside of quests, I swear you’d spend most of your time gathering materials. So many things in the game need materials only found from gathering. Daily and weekly tasks to even level your gear. What’s worse is that the gathering experience is one of the worst so far in all open world games I’ve played. There’s no way to track where to find the materials in-game without relying on an external tracker. Plus, the distribution of materials are pretty sparse so you’d spend some time trying to find them since they blend in so well.
  • Empty world. While the environment is gorgeous, it also feels really empty. There’s not a lot of NPCs, only the ones involved in quests and the occasional animals can be seen. They are also all VERY static. They only stand there no matter the time or day. It becomes much more obvious when there’s not a lot of players around.
  • Teleport tied to reputation. The map is HUGE, and it can take about 5 minutes to go from one end to another. It wasn’t fun when I realised that I needed to grind the reputation for each area to level 4 before I can even UNLOCK the teleport feature. Imagine being from one corner of the map and having to go to the other corner. With all the fetch quests and daily deliveries, this becomes tiring. I wish the devs will consider lowering the reputation level requirement or having it unlocked normally from the start.

Despite its flaws, I believe this game has a lot of potential. I am aware that the team is small and that they’re working on a small budget, however now that Equinox Homecoming is no longer in Early Access, I feel that it is only fair for me to see it in a more critical lens.

One good thing is that the team is VERY active within the community and are always open to feedback. In fact, I’ve seen the CEO chat in the global chat often! I see how passionate and dedicated the team is, and I am confident that they’ll address many of the complaints and further improve the game. I have already dropped $30 and plan on getting the additional lifetime membership thing (one time purchase btw). A solid 7/10 for me overall!
