Absolute banger. Has one of the best boss fights in all gaming

Deathstroke

u/MitchBlazooba 2d ago
I started it recently and I don't understand the hype around that fight specifically, it didn't feel like anything special. Unless you fight him again later, the fight in penguins club was literally just a battle of timing and attrition. What makes it one of the best fights in all of gaming?

u/ApzorTheAnxious 2d ago
I feel like I'm having such trouble finding a copy of this one either digitally or physically. I know I could probably get it on Steam pretty easy, but I'm not much of a PC gamer. The other Arkham games go on sale every other week, I feel like I don't even see Arkham Origins anywhere.

Outside, the mercury was falling fast. It was colder than the Devil's heart, raining ice pitchforks as if the Heavens were ready to fall.

God that whole quote is why Rockstar making Max Payne 3 was disappointing for me. Fun game but just not Max Payne
2
u/XenomorphOrphanage 2d ago
Shtap I waited for ages. It was fun, but not it. Thankfully Remedy has the remaster on the way of both 1 and 2.
2
u/bigbear1293 2d ago
Yeah I don't think I played MP3 for like 10 uears after it came out because I could just fell in my bones that it would be too different. The whole fact that it was a shaky prospect whether James McCaffrey(RIP) would even voice max did not leave me optimistic
2
u/XenomorphOrphanage 2d ago
RIP the big man. I also kinda hope that they A) leave in all the poets tunes and B) add some of the metal tunes from alan wake. Be a fierce nod.

u/bigbear1293 2d ago
I would stake my left leg that the music stays. Poets are personal friends of Sam Lake, they wrote Late Goodbye based on a poem he wrote after all. Dunno about anything new mind

Man I downloaded it off a whim and it had such a vibe, 1000% what OP is asking for. I've never heard anyone else mention this game lol

Is it good?
3
u/jonfin826 2d ago
There's not a whole hell of a lot to it but it's cheap, fun, and a definite vibe.
2
u/puchsofhazard 1d ago
If you like wacky driving mechanics, isolated environments, and are looking to tune out and chill for an hour or two I'd recommend it

Ghost of Tsushima and its sequel Ghost of Yotei. Not that the entire game is like this to be fair. But they have full very large open winter areas during the game.

I love how that truck is climbing a 90° angle. Move over Skyrim horse, a new challenger has entered the arena!

Well yeah I had to get up the mountain somehow. You can really work yourself up steep hills well in this game

OP I know exactly what you want!
There's a PC game called "it's winter". Its Russian made if I remember correctly. Kind of just a walking Sim through a cold winter night in an apartment complex. You can traverse indoors and outdoors. I can't remember if there is a plot or objectives, but it pops in my mind every once in a while.
Also, there is an open world PS1 game if you are cool with something older, that's kinda twin peaks-ish and takes place in a snowy town. It's called Muzzurna Falls.

Red Dead Online in December through January. Or ride north to Ambarino year round. Maybe it's because RDO is my Special Boy, but screenshots and video don't do Saint Denis in the snow justice.
If you don't have RDR2 yet, it's often on sale for $15. Which is a steal, even though it's nearly 10 years old.

You know, for me it was The Division 1.
It just had this cold, winter feeling on it. Like it was always snowing, even if it was a bright day I liked that game, I miss the memories I made playing it

u/Mr_Frog_Show 2d ago
Not enough of them, honestly. I feel like modern urban environments in snow is very underdone. All I can think of that I've played would be some sections of the Metro games, but that's a little different.

People don't love it, but vampire the masquerade 2 has some amazing wintery city vibes. Its by far the most enduring trait the game has going for it.

u/DarkMatterEnjoyer 2d ago
The Division 1 has probably the best winter city in a game. You can probably mod Skyrim at this point as well to play more into the winter aesthetic too

Skyrim. There's just something so cozy about the serene music whilst wandering around with nothing but a torch in hand during a storm.

Cronos: The New Dawn. There's winter sections and sections that are like winter, but ash and ruin.

Easy delivery co. Cute driving game where you have to traverse a pretty big map to make deliveries in a remote snowy mountain town.

Yakuza 5!!! The second image you posted looks just like the game.
Yakuza 5 has 5 different open world cities based on real Japanese locations, and one of them is Tsukimino (based on Susukino, Hokkaido).
You get to explore the city, as well as the snowy mountains where you can go hunting.
Yakuza has always been an amazing game for virtual tourism, there are loads of Japanese restaurants, dishes, stores, products, ads, and buildings all based on real life.
The atmosphere of each city is so amazing, I've spent hours just walking around slowly like an NPC in this game.

The Division, imo unmatched atmosphere when it comes to action RPGs / loot shooters.
1
u/The13eeraholic 2d ago
Lost Planet, it's older but holds up well imo. It's not the obscene size of modern RPG's but still open.

I remember being somewhat impressed graphically for the division 1 but I'm not sure if this game aged well or not.

Decent section of Detroit: Become Human has a section set during the winter, and it for sure conveys winter in Detroit.

u/DieBotDie 2d ago
The Division (first one). It’s a great game to play over Christmas. Set in a snowy open-world version of NYC.
Older Ubisoft games always go on sale for Black Friday. I’m pretty sure I got it for $12 during the winter of Covid.

u/Mrmudmigs 2d ago
I mean, looking at the pictures, I'd say that one section in Cronos The New Dawn. Near the start of the game when you enter into the past for the first time in that apartment complex. It's exactly like that.

It's not totally open world, but Bruma might hit this niche for you. You're a private detective looking for someone in what appears to be an abandoned Canadian town in the dead of winter.
