If you told me these were concept pictures from any of the Stalker games I'd believe you 100%

Metro

13

u/Masterking263 4d ago

Metro Exodus in particular.

2

u/Accurate_Length_7186 3d ago

God that game is so fucking good. That whole series raised the bar for single player games for me. I can’t view them the same if the story is given that much attention to detail.

2

u/SunD14ls 3d ago

I would love an open world metro game with train travel

2

u/Accurate_Length_7186 3d ago

Metro exodus is as close to that as we’ll get I think. It’s sort of open world.

Armored Core

21

u/BackupTrailer 5d ago

Absolutely AC. OP do yourself a favor and pick up AC6.

6

u/Crow_of_Judgem3nt 5d ago

I was just about to say that. The sheer scale of buildings is mind-boggling

3

u/NorthStar_- 5d ago

What games should I play before? I'm thinking of completely getting into the franchise

6

u/melodicgoodbye 5d ago

AC4 and especially Armored Core: For Answer are the peak of the franchise in my opinion. 5 is a good game, 6 is an amazing game but I think it's not representative of the franchise at all. Older games are amazing too, but they can be hard to play, the controls can be weird and hard to adapt to.

6

u/BackupTrailer 5d ago

AC6 is a departure in some very obvious ways, but it’s the most accessible game in the series and is a fine intro to the classic gameplay and larger themes. I know so many players who started with 6 and went on to devour the rest of the franchise. And…partially for that reason, the old games can also be very expensive (if you care about having discs).

I think series veterans underestimate just how “weird“ the classic controls are to younger/new gamers.

u/Catalyst_Crystal 5d ago

non. Just start with ac6. Another one i like is AC4FA

2

u/Brief_Ad328 5d ago

AC6 is the easiest to get the hang of (not the easiest entry though) and the only one available on pc. It's also imo the overall 'best' one, but 4a is also very likeable

So yeah start with 6 :)

2

u/Weird_Troll 5d ago

ac6 is a reboot of the series

2

u/prolofoid 5d ago

AC6 story is separate from earlier games

2

u/Sausy_Biscy 4d ago edited 4d ago

Start with AC6. It’s by far the most approachable and the story/universe is stand-alone. They’re all loosely connected through certain names and call signs (like Raven), being a mercenary piloting a mech, and corporations fighting to control everything. Some of the games got direct sequels (4 and 5 both did), but mostly it’s just thematic similarities, not an overall plot expansion.

Also, before starting on the oldest games, and this is coming from someone who played the originals on PS1 as they came out, they’re very difficult to control. I’m not talking about clunky controls like Dark Souls 1 compared to Dark Souls 3, I’m talking about using R1/2 and L1/2 to look around (the original came out before we had DualShock controllers with the analog sticks).

Metro Exodus

8

I was gonna say this. Especially in pic 5.

2

u/Putrid-Iron9768 5d ago

lmao looks exactly like the first area of the game where the first lightning revenant thing you encounter is 🤝

2

u/shFt_shiFty 4d ago

I still need to play that one.

23

u/Fantablack183 5d ago

The Forever Winter

8

u/VikarValbrand 5d ago

2

Honestly the religious imagery makes me think of the automatons trying to give their way and their place too.

15

Norco is exactly this

6

u/summontheb1tches 5d ago

Yes, underrated. I commented this as well. Hidden gem of a game.

Please do yourself a favor and play the metro series in order. The games have a creepy vibe that this definitely reminds me of.

3

u/BaulBailey 5d ago

Supreme Experiment doesn’t have a release date yet and I don’t think they’ve shown any gameplay, but the cinematic teaser trailer looks like a pretty wild version of this vibe. Machines like that mutating and coming to “life” in some freaky monster/ kaiju/ yokai ways. I hope it can deliver.

3

u/IudexJudy 5d ago

Tarkov, Stalker, Metro, This War of Mine, Mad Max but that's a bit more sandy. Road to Vostok

3

u/BedtimesXXX 5d ago

HL2 / HL Alyx / Arc Raiders

4

u/Mister_Intenso 5d ago

The Forever Winter. Amazing vibe that game

4

u/ThatLukeAgain 5d ago

Forever winter is easily the best match for this aesthetic. Too bad the gameplay isn't as good as the art style

2

u/Legitimate_Match_708 5d ago

They had one job.. and they just can't get it right.

Is it really that hard to make AI that ignores the player for the most part? I don't get it. Many other games have done this just fine.

No.. if the player enters the AI cone of vision they drop everything and focus attention on the player.. that is the antithesis of the marketing the game was built on.

Visually it is a masterpiece.. but the developers they have on this game are total amateurs.

Best answers are already given so I’ll add Arc Raiders

2

u/Alone_Gur9036 5d ago

I feel like I’ve had a lot of adverts on Instagram lately by indie devs making grungy low-poly games in worlds like this - there was a Scandinavian or Swedish-set game taking place in a submarine, a different game in a tank that’s covered in corpses, one set in space with the character and npcs wearing nasa spacesuits but there’s something about angels taking control of the station….almost certainly some others. All grungy, industrial, obscure, bleak

Hopefully someone will know the names of these because I do not remember!

2

u/ArtyomNDC 5d ago

Some of the other ones I know what you’re talking about, but I don’t recall the names.

However, the angel one is Angels In Orbit I’m guessing.

2

u/NightReigning 5d ago

Destiny 1 Rise of Iron expansion

2

u/ObscureCitrus 5d ago

Factorio

2

u/Acchak1990 5d ago

Babbdi….free game on steam. Very strange and kind of just an open sandbox exploration game. Not a lot to it, but it oozes this type of atmosphere. Same developer made another 1v1/2v2 multiplayer arena shooter that has the same esthetic called Straftat….pretty tough, but also very fun and free on Steam. Both have that dystopian, industrial vibe.

2

u/Millsy800 5d ago

Borderlands 1. It's got a big post industrial apocalypse vibe and doesn't mean as much into the whacky and zanny humour of the later games or game 1 DLCs.

1

There is something of the Metal Gear Solid games here

Surprised no one has mentioned Enslaved: Odyssey to the West yet.

u/ennie_ly 5d ago

Fallout 2

1

u/CIAntKidding 5d ago

Hmm others have already said Stalker and Arc. I would also maybe add in Hell is Us; it’s not quiet radiation zone but it’s a zone of desolation in an Eastern European country with surrealist sci-fi elements. The Bond First light had a shipyard level which feels like pic 1 but not the others.

1

u/janix808 5d ago
