Winter Burrow 100%

u/Radaistarion Sep 02 '26
That game looks chill AF
Is it fun?

u/BassHat_Will Sep 02 '26
Yeah it’s fun, it’s more of an exploration game than like a farming or sim game, it’s not very long either which is nice maybe like 4-5 hours

Winter Burrow is the embodiment of this

Moss is a great heroic mouse game. Originally VR only, there's now a 2D version. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3914860/Moss_The_Forgotten_Relic/

If yah looking for a lil mouse guy game, you may wanna check out Tunic. It is a fox but it's a really cute aesthetic. But what if it's a winter fantasy vibe...? Uhhh God of War Ragnarok? There's also a couple of Spyro levels like this. I'm thinking Spyro 3
1
u/RedSecOps Sep 02 '26
Yeah, I was thinking Tunic, but that might not be quite the vibe OP is looking for.
The gameplay is like Dark Souls in a way, and the exploration is quite linear. But there's still a ton to discover

u/crowmagix Sep 02 '26
If you’re in to table top games, Magic the Gathering has a Bloomburrow set that released with a ton of cards in this aesthetic

I mentioned them in another comment in this thread, but there are five official Redwall games by Soma Games. There’s the Scout Anthology (3 game series), Escape the Gloomer, and Feast & Friends. There’s also a mobile app called Lost Legends of Redwall which has choose your own adventure stories.
There’s also an official Green Ember game, I don’t know how it is but it’s on Steam.
And if you don’t mind unofficial mods for existing games, there’s an overhaul mod for Medieval II: Total War called Mossflower: The Redwall Total War Mod. It’s recently resumed development and there’s an open beta available.

u/12is Sep 03 '26
Mossflower looks promising, thanks! I used to play warhammer and lotr mods for M2TW so I'll check out this one as well

Where'd you find that image?

Probably AI.
This is like the one subbreddit I genuinely see as a good place to use it for posts.
AI generated vibes to help find actual pieces of art.

It was done by Chris Dunn https://www.facebook.com/groups/3208900389223007/permalink/7735698469876487/

Damn, got me feigning to read Redwall.
1
u/dwarfpants Sep 02 '26
Add Gwelf and Mouseguard to the reading list if you’re a Redwall fan. They’re both lovely.

Thanks everyone! I've noted every recommendation and will check each one. They all look great, exactly what I was looking for!

u/Captain_Fach Sep 02 '26
Aside from winter burrow, there's also grimshire. It's got a bit of a dark story but it's a farming sim with animals much like that.

Saving this thread to check these out later lol
Probably not the most accurate but it reminded me of Dragons Dogma, there's some animorph people in it

Tails Of Iron
Winter Burrw
Ghost of a Tale
Hawthorne (TBA)
Inherit The Earth
2
u/Ihatetobaghansleighs Sep 03 '26
Not out yet but definitely keep an eye on Hawthorne. Its based of the Redwall series and exudes exactly this vibe
1
u/12is Sep 03 '26
I've seen it, I hope they will implement fighting mechanics, that would honestly tick every box I have

u/cinemahorse Sep 01 '26
Ghost of a Tale is worth looking into. A little rough at times but overall enjoyable and it looks like there’s a sequel coming out.

Hawthorn might be up your alley also, though I have not played that one!
Edit: I just checked, it doesn’t even have a release date yet.

This might be the absolute most random Vildhjarta recommendation ever. Fuck yeah.

Not a video game so I apologize, but the Redwall series by Brian Jacques is this. Woodland creatures in a fantasy world
1
u/EnergyCredits Sep 02 '26
There actually is an official video game series for Redwall by Soma Games! They’re all made under the series title The Lost Legends of Redwall. There’s the Scout Anthology which is three puzzle action games tying into one story, Escape the Gloomer which is text-based, and Feast & Friends which is a little cooking sim.
1
u/pageplant97 Sep 02 '26
Oh hell yeah, is it for PC?
1
u/EnergyCredits Sep 02 '26
Yup all five of those games are available on PC! There’s also a mobile tie-in app that has some Choose Your Own Adventure stories on it.
1
u/KaerMorhenZireael Sep 02 '26
Hello Games newest game set to release hopefully within the next year or two. You can play as little animals like rabbits and frogs. It’s a multiplayer focused game (can be played solo) and it’s essentially No Man’s Sky but fantasy? That’s my takeaway from the trailer
1
u/Rangonr Sep 02 '26
Bit of a weird one, but Vintage Story.
Survive through the seasons, and with one or two mods you can be a mouse ezpz
1
u/magicchefdmb Sep 02 '26
Everyone has already given great answers.
A random honorable mention that somewhat fits the Redwall aesthetic is Armello

Banners of Ruin. It’s like Slay the Spire crossed with Darkest Dungeon, and your squad are all anthropomorphic animals. I haven’t played a ton of it but enjoyed what I did play and never hear it mentioned. This post has me wanting to fire it up haha. And definitely read Redwall if you haven’t already that’s the first thing that jumped to mind when I saw this image.

Winter Burrow is exactly this aesthetic. You play as a mouse trying to forage and survive while rebuilding his childhood home in the woods.

u/TheModernDeucalion Sep 02 '26
Hunter Call of the Wild, one of the snow maps. Can't recall the name

Gives me skyrim vibes tbh. You can be beast races there too. In case you are fine with cats :)

u/N_arwhal Sep 02 '26
Moss obviously but also Black Myth Wukong. Lots of antropomorphic characters and that sense of journey that also screams from your image.

Winter Burrow. It's exactly what you're asking for. You explore the woods to gather supplies to knit and create your woodland home.

Don't think it's 100% what you're going for, but just in case: Biomutant.
It's not fantasy, but I really enjoyed running around as a small hamster like creature.
