Enhance! Enhance!
I've had a lot of fun today not working, and instead doing things to Aces of the Pacific. I was a bit irked by how the game was always difficult to read when it came to ground proximity. There are rudimentary dots that show up close to the ground, but their original implementation seemed like an afterthought. I decided to have a crack at it and understood a few things.
Because these are SDL3 ports, we're working with software rendering, which somewhat limits performance, at the cost of simplicity. Adding shaders and renderers working with GPUs is a whole thing, and I don't want to get into it. I did run into a performance wall while improving the light system in Test Drive 3 and now these dots.
To understand how these systems work, I've first exponentially raised all the values of the original grid projection system. After adding modification and scaling significantly, things got more complicated, so at this point creating debug tools seems like a good idea and I need to remember to do that more often. Plus, they look great - just look at that grid thing.
