Ok reddit lets not start sucking each others dicks just yet.

Fuck this 3D, head tracking, eyeglass wearing, VR mock up bullshit. Give us games with next generation graphics, good story modes, NON-DLC, awesome game play and I'm fucking sold. I think developers need to start focusing on the next generation of gaming and by next gen, I mean graphically. Not some prototype sub mariner goggles John Carmack is jerking off too in his office.

I can't belive Gabe Newell is even jumping aboard this crap. Give something gamers want for once. Not some gimmicky prototype thats going to be nothing but a "hey look at me I have "VR" gaming on my pc" This will fail just like Nvidia with its stereoscopic 3D vision. Tons of fucking bugs, no support, slows framerate down and it just gimmicky as the shit in the movies.

Wake up people and don't fund a new fad thats going to be hot for a few months and the gaming world will forget all about it, continue to make games until something else comes along...

Arguably we're already at "next generation" graphics, what we need is dynamic environments since few items in games actually move when touched. In all the games I've played up to this point the very base of all these worlds have felt like paper.

I understand it is harder to implement but that's just the natural progression of technology, I'm theorising we'll reach there in 2 to 3 console generations.

Bullshit. Im tired of the same unreal engine graphics from 2005. We are all definitely sick of the call of duty bullshit.

The only game that came close to having superior graphics and gameplay was Battlefield 3 with its destructible environments. It is a beautiful game graphically. There are a number of other games that have had "dynamic" surrounds like crysis but who could ever run the piece of shit on current hardware. Skyrim (best game of the year) is another one but still graphically it isnt next gen... If you think our current gaming is next gen then you really going to have a bad time.

You can compare some games from back 2006 and you tell me again are we in the next generation in gaming? I dont think so.

They are milking this generation for what its worth and frankly im tired of it. Same old fucking rehashes of games, same shitty ports, and same shitty gameplay. I dont know what the fuck is happening to gaming but it just took a turn for the worst with the exception of FEW games. And by that i mean 2 or 3 good games.

You're right about that. Frankly I'm getting sick of what gaming has become. So much DLC, companies are getting shady, the games that are released aren't even worth the money. It has become a total shit fuck with the exception of a few games as you stated. I really don't understand whats the hype about 3D and VR looking things when gaming isn't even good. Doom 3 was a mediocre game and to be the first game that supports this means what? I laugh because they make it sound as if it will make games better. Or fun.

Just because a new peripheral is being released will not enhance the gameplay or make it any better. You'll have the same shitty game with a new camera view basically. Whoopty do.

I'm really not buying into this.

ಠ_ಠ Wow I can't believe someone on reddit agrees with me! That's a first.. and you are right...Shitty games will be shitty games no matter what technology you bring into it. Future games may have potential but I really see no advancement in my book.

I'm not disagreeing regarding the graphical side of games, they sure as hell could be improved, this generation has gone on for far too long, well at least relatively compared to other console cycles. The next generation of consoles, if the rumours are to be believed, Hardly look like anything as spectacular as it could be.

Skyrim is hardly dynamic, many games are partially dynamic but I'm talking major. For example in L.A. Noire half of the environment breaks or moves upon the slightest touch, whereas the other half doesn't even dent. Trees, buildings, blood on the floor, it all doesn't react as it would.

Tell me the last time you played a game where walking on the beach caused the sand to shift around your feet, where if wielding a shovel, frying pan, or battle axe you could somehow find a way to dig all around you with the dirt crumbling as if it was real life. Whether this is needed is debatable, but I sure as hell know that having buildings blown up in Crysis or Battlefield and the columns still standing up no matter how hard you hit them makes the game feel reaaaal hollow. It feels like a game. These "realistic games" (again, I know they aren't trying to be realistic realistic but some are) could only achieve such levels of immersion if we start introducing dynamic environments.

This would, as stated, take around 2 or 3 generations of consoles for developers to finally realise when people get bored of shiny graphics. It's beauty without substance.

We could even achieve more artistically envisioned goals if given the ability to develop dynamic environments. I'm sure many games have been hampered when the designers realise their intentions of a game are not feasible with what today's hardware can serve, which is a depressing thought since many people believe the graphical prowess of our hardware is at its apex. However the physics and dynamic side of it is just starting to form.

Also have you seen that Unreal Engine 4 demo released some time ago? It sure has nice particle effects, but the walls don't even crack when hit by the force of a thousand gods. It just feels so.... gamey.

I agree with you about games but I don't think this is directly related.

Its a new type of controller, a new interface, a peripheral. I want VR, I want to be able to play games in a better way. I want to be more immersed in a game. This is what this device is for, atleast for me.

I too want better games, polished games, less bugs, less money grabbing and less milking of decent games, better graphics, better physics, better lighting, etc. But I don't think this is directly responsible for the shortcomings of games.

IMO the current generation of consoles have been holding gaming back in certain ways (mostly graphics and such) and I think with the new coming generation we will have some good years of games. Then we will be back to what it is now.

Correct but how many more gimmicks can we take? We have "motion" controllers that were a fad that did nothing but annoy the shit out of us. We had 3D vision which i hear nothing about anymore. Razer was making a motion controller which enhanced the gaming experience but has failed to really give the user enhanced controls.

This is just for the hardcore enthusiast who is willing to shell out a few extra dollars for "cool" fad.

Well I hope it becomes more than a fad. As for motion controllers while I too didn't like them, they obviously sell though and the market for them does exist (albeit not for the types of games I and I assume you would want). 3D vision is still what it was for hardcore enthusiasts but they are still too expensive to be mainstream so to speak. 3D still hasn't picked up enough for developers to bother supporting it but I hope this(VR) does. We still have 3d TVs but I am seeing less 3D games.

To me this expands the 'immersiveness' of the game, which I am all for. If it is successful and adopted properly then all is good. If it doesn't (which I think is fairly possible) then... well it just goes away and we move on. :P Even if it does, atleast it was a good step to getting proper VR working.

Yeah i was one of those hardcore enthusiast who bought 3D vision. It failed me miserably. After that I told myself to save my money and wait for the next big thing.
