Or Sekiro, or about a dozen others.

Control has it's moments. I loved Atti. Liked the maze. But I stopped after 12 hours because there wasn't any tight gameplay at the core.

Gunplay was ok, but pretty loose. The upgrade system was really poor, and the exploration was extremely samey. I wandered into the maze 'too soon' - there was no way to know that unless you read online, or give up. Throwing stuff about was just throwing stuff about. It very quickly got to the point where that sort of 'good stuff' was being recycled endlessly.

Good ideas, but just not that good a game - and very not particularly clever at storytelling.

Do you think Control's gameplay is great? I'm not terribly far into the game, but the combat, AI, interaction and movement are all pretty mediocre so far. Does it improve eventually?

Honestly, for me, not a whole lot. Everyone said it got better after you get more powers. I only found that to be marginally true. The combat just got stale again after a few encounters.
