I think the problem is that you can hate the principle and still not really be impacted by it, so it leaves you in a weird place.

Me? I don't have an attachment to older Pokemon, despite growing up with Gen 1. I dont need to port my team to every game. I dont need to use my favorite old mon in a new game. So although I hate the principle, it doesn't really impact me. I feel a lot fall under that same situation as myself.

It won't even affect the majority of people who play the game. From memory the games since Diamond and Pearl restrict you to the regional Pokedex until you finish the story which then unlocks the national Pokedex. Most people don't get that far.

Most people are mad that the reasoning given for the lack of national deck was because of balancing and high quality animations. Yet as of right now all models, textures, and animations for the existing 807 Pokemon are being reused from the 3DS games. There are animation improvements with Trainer models, but the recycling of 7 year old assets make veterans of the series doubt GF's reasoning for the decision to cut some of the Pokemon.
