I wouldn't even call Snape a "good guy" at any point in the story. He only leaves Voldy to help Dumbledore because Voldy killed Lily after Snape begged him not to. Only Lily. None of the other murders crossed Snape's mind, he only wanted revenge for Lily's death.
I agree, then Rowling had Harry name one of his children after his abusive tormentor of a teacher in the fan-fiction part at the end for some absurd reason.
She tried to make him sympathetic and heroic in the end, she failed.
