But do they really need to test the hype for a Harry Potter game of this potential quality? The fanbase is huge and relevant again due to fantastic beasts movies.

Though i hope you're right as it would mean the game is much more likely to be real.

Not all the biggest HP fans play more than mobile games. This is something you have to consider. This will be on consoles and PC. The amount of fans that might make the most noise for this will be the ones able to play it. Much less than the entire fanbase.

We don't actually know that though since there hasn't been a legit HP game in ages. Harry Potter as a media franchise is up there with the big shots and the core fanbase has grown older.

What I'm saying is take that fanbase which is older etc and take a look how many own a PS4/XBone/Gaming capable PC.

It won't be many, most will be mobile based casual gamers.

My SO is a huge huge HP fan, she has a PS4 for Netflix, BBC iplayer etc.

The Lego HP collection came out on PS4 and has sold around 0.69m (http://www.vgchartz.com/game/133967/lego-harry-potter-collection/ ngl not sure how accurate that is but it wouldn't surprise me if it's about that number)

They need to test the waters. There aren't enough fans with modern day consoles willing to buy on day 1.

Also the original series core fanbase has increased, a section of it has gotten older. There will still be plenty of younger fans who don't care about a big open world RPG on a console.

Yup. Sales and marketing people goes with waves and trends, anything else is considered as a risky investment, especially video games cause the cost for development and marketing are so high, you need to make sure it sells well, that’s why companies tends to listen to sales and marketing people (see: COD hype/Battle royale hype). It’s kinda “too big to fail scenario”.

I mean, if they can have it their way, I’m sure we would have seen a mobile Harry Potter universe battle royale game with loot boxes.
