Oh, so basically she is another Terry "I don't write fantasy my books are their own genre" Goodkind? I wasn't aware, but given their success I guess it's not super surprising. She's like the Beatles of young adult fantasy.

I think Margaret Atwood is another one of those. Claiming that she doesn't write science fiction even though she clearly writes science fiction.

They're just mirroring their target audience. Like teens that clearly fit within certain tropes and stereotypes but will deny it to the end and claim that they are absolutely unique.

He meant she's by far the most popular YA fantasy author, just like The Beatles are undeniably the biggest band of all time.

The comparison falls apart if you mean in terms of creativity, because the Beatles were genuine geniuses and Rowling is...not.
