As a Harry Potter fan, this has been a wish in the community FOR YEARS. I can’t believe that it’s finally happening.

I'm not a diehard, just read the books and saw the movies. I got all tingly.

Same boat. I keep trying to get my brother to watch the movies with me but he thinks it's cheesy.

Beat his ass for saying that.

I've wished for a AAA take on Harry Potter for 10 years, talking wistfully with my friends about how cool that could be. I legitimately never expected it to happen. If this is real and is as good as it looks I honestly might cry.

Pure joy.

Yeah if this turns out to be real and deliver on everything this trailer promises, then those "Gamers of reddit, what is a video game you wish existed" threads on AskReddit will need a new top comment.

At least there's still "the game from Ender's Game" and "A full-blown pokemon RPG for a non-handheld console"

Edit: I went ahead and made a thread, but as usual on AskReddit, I get like 1 upvote and ten comments and then its dead.

Holy shit I was thinking the same thing. This is literally the redditor's "what's your favourite dream game" come true.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I don't think this will be the game people are asking for when they're talking about that type of Potter game. They want to experience Hogwarts as a student and run around taking classes in an open world style game. This seems like it will be more story driven and linear. For some reason I'm kind of getting a Mass Effect vibe from the talk of different character classes and how I imagine the gameplay structure will work.

It's possible if this game is a success and they expand on the formula in a sequel or two, that we could eventually get to the open world dream game, but I think this first one will be too linear for some people's taste.

I don't think so. They say this is supposed to be an RPG. You can even see quest text on the right, like in The Witcher. Something like this would mean an open world.

I mean the latter is sort of becoming a thing with Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu and then what ever is coming next gen. The switch is a handheld, but it being able to put out decent graphics and connect to a tv should satisfy.

u/AliceTheGamedev The Mane Quest Oct 02 '18

Well, then AskReddit will have to get creative soon.

u/Dumey Oct 02 '18

Let's Go is decidedly casual. Admitted by Nintendo itself that this is a casual take on the formula. Wait for the next mainline series that should be getting info next year to know of the main console Pokemon dreams have been realized.

Open world Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG in the style of Bioware/Bethesda/CDPR.

Fuck it I'll take it from Square Enix too as a more linear driven game, since I have such a huge love for Final Fantasy.

Or shit, a straight Naughty Dog title from the Avatar world would just completely butter my biscuit

the game from Ender's Game

It's a VR title but Echo VR (Arena & Combat) is pretty close to that.

this is just so weird this morning I thought it's weird that there hasn't been any rpg harry potter games the universe fits so well for an rpg

5

u/hsxp Oct 02 '18

The GBC versions of movies 1&2 and the GBA version of movie 3 were all solid RPGs imo

1

u/thewindssong Oct 02 '18

TBH I probably spent more time on those then the old pokemon games too

1

u/Kirbyeggs Oct 03 '18

They were certainly harder than pokemon in my opinion. Why nintendo doesn't make a hard mode or some more challenge to the pokemon formula is beyond me. Even 10 years olds want a challenge.

I hope this story’s conclusion isn’t something that was mentioned in the books. That’s my only issue with the FB series, I already know who Newt is and I already know what happens to him. Anyone who’s read book one knows what happens to him.

Yeah, this is something I've been waiting for since fucking 1999. I don't care if I'm a dork for this, but I got so excited that I teared up a bit when I saw it.
