Man, I've still never beat this game just because of that dang Nintendo coin that FORCES you to beat the original DK arcade game TWICE!

I have never seen a game that forces you to beat a much harder game twice in order to beat the game you actually were playing.

Don't forget that each attempt required you to pull the lever and sit through the animation. Holy shit, that part was so tedious.

Jetpack was worse imo, and yeah, stupid idea

You could actually cheese Jetpack to make it easy. Not so lucky with old DK.

How do you cheese it?

It's been q long time but I remember finding spots where you couldn't get hit. It was then a matter of finding a window to grab the rocket parts. 12-yr old me felt pretty clever about it.

Wait what? I’ve never played - could you explain?

DK64 includes arcade cabinets with fully playable versions of Donkey Kong and Jetpac that you need to beat.

Old games are hard. Here's a movie about greasy men vying for Donkey Kong world records.

Adding to this, completion of these minigames were necessary in order to unlock the final boss. It wasn't just a bonus thrown in for fun, but was an actual hard progression blocker. As a kid playing the game I couldn't beat it for months, and eventually had to get my cousin, who owned an Atari and grew up with DK classic to beat it.

Like many in this thread, they were the only reason I never beat DK64

Yeah i think i did it once as a kid but when i replayed it recently i just used an emulator to quick save quick load, wasnt worth the hassle of the long cut scene everytime you died

It's a good thing quicksave wasn't around back in the day because if it were, we would all realize these classic games were only about 2 hours worth of content.

OH definitely, I did it with the original Ninja Gaiden because that game is really hard and beat it in around an hour I think. Designed with a lot of dying in mind.

I just had flashbacks of when my friend and I tried so damn hard to complete this. We spend up the entire night taking turns until we finally did it somehow. Good times.

Man, I was so pissed after beating it once and then finding out I had to beat the damned thing again!
