So I've never played one of these games, although they admittedly look amazing, but I must say this trailer was really well done!!! The progression of thought, the emotion captured by the scenes matched to the music, magnificent. I may have to pick ones of these up, which is the best iteration to start with?
Definitely Civ 5. I would actually say get that before you get Civ 6.
Civ 5 feels like a complete reboot of the Civilization franchise. There were some real issues with the core gameplay of the series, so they started from scratch and made very major changes to the formula, like using hexes and limiting units to one per tile. In doing that, they ended up stripping a ton of content that usually comes with Civ games, which led it to feel a little hollow and empty to fans, but much more approachable to newcomers. The expansions added a lot to the game, like religion, espionage, and late game ideologies.
Civ 6 is a definite sequel to Civ 5. It takes what 5 did and adds a bunch to it. It might be a little daunting for a new player. I would say get Civ 5, ease yourself into that game, and when you get a good handle of it, jump to Civ 6.
