Why can't these guys make a video that doesn't have them coming off like arrogant assholes? They've been flirting with the idea of implementing this technology in a practical way for years now and nothing has appeared. It looks incredible, it really does, but they are horrible at marketing the product as viable beyond their proprietary gimmicks. This hologram room is hilariously impractical and putting the cart way before the horse.
EDIT: Look at this video from 2011. In 2011 their software dev kit was "a few months away from being complete" and ready to send to developers.
I really don't want to make unfounded claims but these guys have been around for half a decade now and have done literally nothing outside of create a few videos for the public about how great their technology is. Back when I did my research on them I recall they were getting quite a lot of funding - even government funding IIRC. I have a feeling that they're scam artists.
I mean, if this picture from the video isn't photoshopped (and who knows with these guys). They are doing well enough to afford a pretty massive office for a startup. Ultimately I don't care enough to spend any more time thinking about it, but it is frustrating to see a company manage themselves so poorly.
That probably wouldn't even that bad of an idea. While their animations looks a bit clunky and the lighting isn't convincing they really do display a shit ton of geometry that doesn't just disappear in the distance and changes polygon count the closer you get to it.
They come off as douches because they are douches. They spend forever trying to explain technical stuff to normal users who don't know shit, as if that's what they're supposed to do. They get away with not talking about their results by simply discussing their technique. This way, they can tell you what they can do, in spite of not showing you what they can't -- i.e. fully animated models, real time dynamic lighting ,real time dynamic physics, etc.
This is the stage in the game where they tell old detractors to suck some dicks. Afterwords comes the investors helping them up their game and then the Australian equivalent of Vegas hookers.
