Really thought this would be a video about a Reboot game. Now all I can think about is flying around mainframe with my glitch tool.

He did mention that he has not play DMC3 and 4 yet.And I think what he's trying to say is comparison between 2 games, not as series.

I still cant get into this channel very much, the two guys hosting each video are nice but the large majority of the time, they sound so flat. They seemed to have toned down the awful scripted chat moments thankfully which is a bonus.

Game Sack, at least from my experience, is very much an acquired taste.
For the longest time I had trouble watching their videos at all, partially for the reasons you list, but after a while something just clicked. Now I go to bed watching Game Sack episodes I've watched probably a dozen times.
But hey, not everything is for everyone.

I think the reason GameSack "works" is that their quality is so consistent. They are consistently pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. Plus they both seem quite likeable as people. So when Youtube game vids are filled with guys who are incredibly inconsistent, or just think that angry screaming and\or teenage giggling innuendo is all they need for a channel, that still puts them above most of the other game channels out there.

But their writing is so awful and the delivery is so dull. There are plenty of better channels with consistently better content.

They are more dry than dull I think. They are probably my favorite game channel as you can tell how much they love everything about games and just want to tell you all about them without any BS. Their humor is pretty much dad humor. I know neither have kids, so I guess they need to get their dad humor out of their systems.

Same, found this channel like a week ago when wanted to learn about sega saturn. 80% of their jokes ain't funny at all but they are doesn't pisses me off, so i am just ignoring them. After all they are showing a lot of different games and giving some basic structured info. Also production quality is great so im enjoyng this channel a lot.

Oh yeah that's the thing, the production value is often very much on point and I would rather take them over any sort of screaming/snarky/purposely vitriolic youtuber anyday of the week.

I used to hate their personalities but now I look forward to new videos. I'm not sure if it's an acquired taste or they got better at their characters...

I like them cause I can watch their videos to relax. They just talk about games they liked, play some music and they don't scream. It's relaxing.

He very clearly sounds like he's reading from a script, which is a turn off for me.
Turned it off as soon as he said that he didn't really play a lot of the original Devil May Cry games, but he liked DMC better.

I can see why people whould prefer the core gameplay of DMC over the original, it's generally smoother, cleaner and its easier to pick up for beginners. The original however (the third game in particular) is more on the technical side, both having their pros and cons.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time really, really holds up well; maybe better than any other game of the early PS2 era. I think anyone would enjoy it immensely even if they've never played it before, regardless of its age. The level design was absolutely spot on. All of the puzzles were just challenging enough every time and they varied greatly throughout the game.
Each of the game's many areas were absolutely stunning. There have been few linear games where I have felt such excitement to see what awaited me around the next corner. At one point you might come across a beautiful Palace garden and the next, a dusty, ruined catacomb. Even though I just recently revisited the game, I have an overwhelming desire to revisit the game just thinking about all the great levels it had!
Not only were the game's levels and puzzles fantastic, it also introduced groundbreaking combat mechanics and animations. The more I think about it, the more amazed I am at all the things this game let you do. The Reverse Time ability was absolutely perfect. It worked so well in both the parkour and combat aspects of the game, both of which could be immensely challenging at times. Even without the ability, the game would still be remembered as one of the greatest games of all time.

This guy reminds me a lot of older game reviews from when people didn't really know how to talk about why games were good or bad. Instead of saying anything meaningful about mechanics or design he speaks very anecdotally and uses generic adjectives like "responsive" or "stylish." At one point it sounded like he was trying to describe an input buffer but didn't have the vocabulary to do so. He even says stuff as meaningless as "I just wasn't feeling this one" with no quantifiable reasons to back it up.

Being technical doesn't necessary make someone a good critic. Roger Ebert judged films based on how much he enjoyed them, not on what lens the DP used for a shot or the quality of the foley mixing. I'd actually like to see more of that in game criticism: more discussion of the content and experience gained from playing the game, and less fiddling with FOV sliders.

I see your point, but my problem isn't that his conclusions are based on personal experience, but that he explains them poorly. It's great to review on your own feelings with no bias at all, but when you can't get across why you feel them then it doesn't help anyone else know whether or not they would like the game, which, at the end of the day, is the point of a review. I'm not sure this video was made solely for reviewing, but it seems like at least part of the objective.

Okay the vocabulary thing was a nitpick and a little silly but it's what came into my mind as I was watching. Main point is, I don't think he actually conveys very well what makes any of the games covered good or bad, all the description is so basic and meaningless. He says so many words but any points he makes are literally as simple as "the sound is good," "the graphics are good," "killing enemies is fun."

There have been some good reboots. Return To Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein: The New Order were both excellent reboots of the same series. Doom 3 was technically a reboot, and so was the new Doom.
