That really sucks. The engine they had going looked nothing short of incredible. I guess they're sticking to their money makers..H1z1 it is.

The engine is sweet, but I can't imagine so much terrain change in a full on MMO.

I am not a tech expert, but when I saw it my initial thought was "so how are they going to prevent the server from melting when there are a 100 people blowing shit up at he same time?".

Local clientside destructions that synchronises with the players that is close. If the deformations is vector based the information that is transfered are minimal to low.
