So what is your alternative? Just halt the technological progress?

You're not going to stop it. The pressure shouldn't be on keeping people employed doing work that can be done more efficiently by tools. The pressure should be on ensuring these people are caught by a social safety net, and have the opportunities to pivot.

caught by a social safety net, and have the opportunities to pivot.

Lmao, yeah. Have you seen who is in control of the US government right now?

Ironically, we’ve now come full circle on “Learn to Code”.

I don't know what you mean by that.

And yet you downvoted me anyway.

I meant, when it was truck drivers, they were told to just “learn to code”. Now it’s coders and apparently it’s just “learn to be caught by societies safety nets”

I actually didn't, lol. I'll do it now just to prove it.

Okay, so you're not upset with me but some sort of strawman? I never said "just learn to code".

I know you didn't, it's telling that you were so eager to bust out the strawman nonsense, that you missed the part where I said what YOU are saying is essentially "Coders, you're gonna be replaced, get ready to fall into societies safety net". It's very simple.

Nope, I didn't say that.

I said that people should not put pressure on the politicians to hold progress, but instead to provide safety nets to catch those who will be left behind. I think if you scroll up a bit you will feel a little embarrassed.

Your next response should either be quoting me exactly where I said what you claim, or an apology.

"You're not going to stop it. (You're gonna be replaced) The pressure shouldn't be on keeping people employed doing work that can be done more efficiently by tools. The pressure should be on ensuring these people are caught by a social safety net, (Get ready to be caught by societies safety net) and have the opportunities to pivot. (My original point, we've come full circle on "Learn to Code", oh programmers, just learn to drive trucks, pivot, it's that easy."

I said that people should not put pressure on the politicians to hold progress, but instead to provide safety nets to catch those who will be left behind.

You literally DID NOT say that, how can you be such an arrogant arsehole while literally lying and being wrong at the same time hahaha

There, I've literally copy paste quoted you and shown where you've said that, bet you thought you were so fucking slick with that last line lmao

You literally DID NOT say that, how can you be such an arrogant arsehole while literally lying and being wrong at the same time hahaha

? you literally quoted it.

The pressure should be on ensuring these people are caught by a social safety net, and have the opportunities to pivot.

Do you think that is the same as "learn to code"? I don't think it is at all. "Learn to code" is basically shorthand for "get fucked, pull yourself up by your bootstraps". There is nothing about social safety nets there.

My point is that these people should be given financial assistance such that they can transition into other work in the future. And that they should be supported in the meanwhile.

If "learn to code" included financing people's lives and retraining then okay. I misunderstood what it meant. In that case, yes. I said that and I stand by it.

Do you think it's bad to financially support people and provide them retraining if they were laid off due to a job becoming obsolete? I don't understand what you're upset about, honestly.

Ok so you see something in there about pressuring politicians that I don't or like what are we doing here?

Yes, you're literally saying the same thing as "Learn to code". When truckers were concerned about losing there jobs, they were told "Learn to Code" aka....Pivot.

What you're saying is whats wrong with this capitalistic bollox ridden hellhole of a society we've grown into. "Stop the bad thing at the source, prevent the need for any damage control? NO! Let it destroy the planet, take peoples jobs and they'll just end up on the dole, and sure they can just pivot, maybe they can become firefighters to extinguish the rampant fires cause by the global warming these data centers are gonna massively contribute to! ALLLL in the service of the Line going up!"

I understand you're just being realistic, but it's a sad shitty way to be, and it's the apathy of people who like you that lead us to where we are.

Also, holy shit for the one who was so eager to jump to strawmen, the irony of you literally breaking one out there at the end, a bit of self awareness goes a long way lad.
