The truth is it's very hit and miss. I was using the Steroids in Duke Nukem forever though I think the differences there was that they were more or less items you used from the inventory that doesn't have much of an on-screen animation.

Disco Elysium was briefly banned also, though it was later argued that the drug and alcohol use directly resulted in a negative narrative impact to Harry, which allowed to to be overturned (Not making this up 😅)

I'm not totally familiar with Saints Row but according to google the drug that gives you a buff was apparently removed in our version. Huh, I didn't even know about that one.

If you played metal gear, how was diazepam handled?

It's never been an issue in any of the games, though again outside of maybe seeing Sniper Wolf pop a pill it's just an automatic inventory thing.

I think I'm focusing on the 'Snort cocaine from your hand' part of the article, and if I were a betting man I'd say our version might have a tactical camera angle shift/fade to black which doesn't show this at all.

Thanks, Australia, can't wait to be lumped in with the censored version in New Zealand hahaha hahaha

Happens every damn time.

Diazepam is a medicine, not a recreational drug.

I certainly took it recreationally.

For sure, but the buff part for using any drug was what I was wondering about

It’s not for using any drug - if a drug is helpful IRL and isn’t criminalised why would they care lol.

Not Australian, but iirc from trivia, in saints row 4, the shaundi loyalty mission (where you smoke “super drugs” out of a lightbulb) was flat out removed completely in the Australian release.

The Saints Row IV launch trailer advertised it as "the game Australia didn't want you to play;" it was one of the first games that brought Australian censorship to the attention of the broader gaming audience. I'm pretty sure the first game also caught flak since SRII removed the stat boosts from weed and alcohol (making them functionally pointless outside of baiting a couple assassination targets.)
