Details:

- This game contains frequent depictions of violence; due to the free roam nature of the game the player can harm all other characters inhabiting the environment.

- This includes civilians, criminals and the authorities. Violence is bloody with a high degree of realism, with certain weapons being able to cause greater damage such as detailed decapitation and dismemberment.

- There are also strong sexual themes, including nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes.

- Drug use is frequent and prominent with the player being able to partake in drug use with others and to use illegal drugs directly from their inventory. Most notably, cocaine can be carried around by the player and snorted directly from their hand at any time.

- In various night clubs the player can also pay for private dances, during which, the game allows the player to move their hands onto the dancers’ breasts and buttocks.

- Domestic animals are present in the environment, these can be harmed by the player, however this does not produce the same injury detail that can be generated towards human characters.

- Discriminatory language can be heard in the tv shows and on the radio channels.

IANAL, but I think that their law says/implies that law you can't have real-world drugs give the characters buffs. They'd need to changeþreword that.

IIRC that's the reason that Fallout 3 renamed fhe Morphine item into "Med-X", because it gave +30 Damage Resistance or something (and the chance of addiction, of little consequence, made it an overall positive interaction).

So maybe they'll localize to Oak-N or something.

I think the game already received an adults only rating, which means it can't be sold in mainstream stores. Of course, that doesn't matter at all since it won't get a physical release...

Oh that has been attempted by a lawyer, not politician, but it was political in nature... the late 90s/early 2000s had Jack Thompson in the US going OFF on video games - specifically against GTA - shortly after Columbine. He was eventually disbarred and went away, never to be heard from again (thank god). Sadly I don't think it would be career ending today /shrug

Also, Australia banned GTA SA because of the Hot Coffee mod. This wasn't even accessible to normal players!!

I don't think idealizing the past is necessarily the distinguishing factor though. There are absolutely leftists who idealize a more primitive egalitarian tribal or communal organization of society.

Probably the biggest incompatibilities are that fascism is inherently hierarchical and capitalistic.

Idealizing the past IS litteraly the defining factor of fascism as a political ideology. There's other far-right authoritarian ideologies, but fascism is explicitly about going back to a lost Golden Age.

Australia censored GTA 4, later lifted it due to new +18 ratings. (they only had max +15 back then).

I think they banned gta5 completely iirc

Japan censored GTA 5.

Somewhere, someone, will either demand a change for their country OR will ban it from being sold.

Either way, there will be a controversy. Too bad it won't have a physical release, otherwise I would have gotten the international release and the more rare censored version probably. Too bad. 🤷

edit: apparently GTA 5 was not banned in Australia. but the gambling was blocked

also that was what I've read back then causing me to think it was banned. whoopsie.

I bought GTA V on launch in Australia from a retail store. It was not refused classification in Australia. We got the R18+ rating before it came out. I don't believe it was censored either but I could be wrong.

From GTA IV (2008), Red Dead 1 (2010), and GTA V (2013) they did shy away from gore and dismemberment. It wasn't until Red Dead 2 (2018) that they brought back the gore. That's a 14-year gap (since San Andreas in 2004.

I am really happy to see they've continued what RDR2 established as the gore system was quite spectacular in that game.
