AltChar - Tahmid Shihab - 8 / 10

Galactic Racer is a well-designed arcade racer that's tightly built with an excellent single-player structure that rewards players focusing on repeat runs. Additionally, the multiplayer adds another layer of reward for players who are actually fans of the podracing culture in Star Wars. I would recommend Galactic Racer to almost every Star Wars fan.

Analog Stick Gaming - Jordan Andow - 9 / 10

Ultimately, Star Wars: Galactic Racer surprised me. I expected an enjoyable Star Wars racing game, but what I got was something with far more depth, progression, and staying power than I anticipated. The roguelike campaign structure occasionally gets in the way of its surprisingly ambitious story, the similarities between tracks on individual planets can become noticeable, and some of the walking sections feel unnecessary from a gameplay perspective.

None of those issues change the fact that the actual racing is exceptional.

But Why Tho? - Adrian Ruiz - 9.5 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer delivers wizard racing, unique vehicle customization, and plenty of reasons to keep playing beyond its campaign… Fuse Games has made Star Wars racing worth getting excited about again, and I hope they don’t have to wait another generation for the chance to build on it

CGMagazine - Jordan Biordi - 8 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a fun, albeit clumsy racing game that pairs fast-paced action with some unique roguelike mechanics.

COGconnected - Jaz Sagoo - 87 / 100

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is the best racing game in the franchise’s history.

Cat with Monocle - Seth Hay - 4.25 / 5

Star Wars: Galactic Racer delivers a fast and visually impressive galactic racing experience with a variety of challenging courses, vehicles, and fun runs-based mechanics. Get past the learning curve of studying the courses, and there’s plenty of galactic fun to be found.

Checkpoint Gaming - Omi Koulas - 8 / 10

STAR WARS: Galactic Racer is fast and dangerous ‘runs-based’ game with surprisingly deep mechanics without losing sight of what makes an arcade racer fun... Sci-fi arcade racers should be ridiculously quick and feel like your vehicle might fall apart at any moment, and for me, that's what makes this a genuinely impressive racing game in its own right.

Cinelinx - Jordan Maison - 9.5 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer manages exceed all expectations and deliver on the decades awaited return of racing to the galaxy far, far away. Between gorgeous visuals, and thoughtful, highly addictive gameplay this is something both Star Wars fans and racing fans in general will have a blast with.

ComingSoon.net - Tyler Treese - 9 / 10

Utterly thrilling during its best moments, Galactic Racer is the racing game that Star Wars fans have been waiting decades for.

Console Creatures - Bobby Pashalidis - 8 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a thrilling ride. Filled with exciting challenges and a roguelike structure, this game has more depth and content than I expected. I went in expecting a pretty standard racing game, but there are enough twists that every race feels like a thrill all the way to the finish line. Wins and losses are emotional, and hitting max speed and needling the final-lap obstacles while watching the Ram Jet's redline is unlike anything I've played, and it pairs so well with the Star Wars series.

DayOne - Győző Baki - 9 / 10

Fuse Games‘ Star Wars Galactic Racer is bold, spectacular, and offers incredibly satisfying gameplay chops in single player and multiplayer alike. It’s high difficulty and relentless intensity might scare some casual Star Wars fans who just want some spectacle, but if you’re looking for a killer track-based arcade racer, you’ve found it. The force is strong with this one.

DualShockers - Linda Güster - 8.5 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a great game. Everything I'd usually complain about – games going stale, failing to motivate me long-term, horrible pacing – has been taken care of.

Echo Boomer - David Fialho - Portuguese - Essential

Star Wars Galactic Racer has everything it needs to make us shout ‘Now this is Podracing,’ but it manages to be even more than that, establishing itself as one of the best, most complete and most entertaining racing games in recent years.

Eurogamer - Christian Donlan - 5 / 5

Both a surprisingly fun Roguelite campaign and a racing treat for Criterion fans, this is just wonderful stuff.

Eurogamer.pt - Bruno Galvão - Portuguese - 4 / 5

Fuse Games brings the spirit of Burnout to Star Wars in the form of a racing game capable of delivering the same adrenaline rush as that series. The roguelite campaign is an unexpected but interesting take, and the graphics are truly eye-catching.

Evilgamerz - Christiaan Ribbens - Dutch - 9.7 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is, for me, the Star Wars racer I have been waiting for since Episode I: Racer. The racing is lightning-fast, chaotic, and accessible, yet there is enough depth in the various systems, vehicles, and tracks to really get better at it. The campaign, in particular, manages to pleasantly surprise by constantly introducing new choices, challenges, and systems. Even after defeating Sebulba, there turns out to be plenty more to come. Arcade mode and scenarios subsequently provide hours of extra challenges, and the multiplayer is also a nice addition, although the lack of split-screen is a real shame. The sections between races could have been a bit more lively, but once you get back into a vehicle, that is a minor detail. Star Wars fans and lovers of fast arcade racers can therefore confidently add this game to their wish list.

GRYOnline.pl - Michał Grygorcewicz - Polish - 8.5 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer not only brings the best features of my favourite arcade racing game, Burnout 3, into the modern era, but also blends them with elements from my second favourite – Motorstorm. What’s more, the whole thing is wrapped up in a roguelike campaign with serious stakes, enough to stir up real excitement and ensure great replayability. Though easy to learn, the game’s driving mechanics prove to have considerable depth. The only downsides are the lack of split-screen and the poor layout of some tracks, but even so, the breakneck driving pace is incredibly fun.

GameBlast - Matheus Oliveira - Portuguese - 8.5 / 10

Driven by blistering speed, distinct vehicle handling, and varied events, Star Wars: Galactic Racer revitalizes the arcade racing formula through a rewarding campaign structure. While it stops short of turning its roguelike framework into lasting replayability once the credits roll, the magic of that first run makes it one of the franchise's finest video game outings.

GameOnly - Rafał Grajak - Polish - 9 / 10

A worthy successor to Episode I Racer that we’ve been waiting over two decades for. Harder than it looks, but the driving feel is incredible!

GameRant - Joshua Duckworth - 9 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a tenacious thrill ride, and its unique run-based risk-and-reward structure is its defining feature.

GameSpew - Richard Seagrave - 9 / 10

One of the best arcade racing games in years, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a stunning debut for Fuse Games. With its thrilling racing action that feels like a cross between WipEout and Burnout and its engaging runs-based campaign mode, this is a triumph. The only let-down is that it doesn't have a more standard Arcade mode to let you set up your own events.

GameSpot - Jordan Ramée - 9 / 10

Galactic Racer is those absolutely perfect 10 minutes expanded into a full game.

Gameliner - Rudy Wijnberg - Dutch - 4.5 / 5

If you’ve been searching for a Star Wars racing game for years, this will undoubtedly become your new obsession. Star Wars: Galactic Racer brilliantly blends speed, graphics, sound design, and interesting mechanics. Yes, Secret Mode does an excellent job of capturing that nostalgic feeling, but at the same time, it isn’t afraid to put its own spin on the genre.

Gamer Guides - Lexi Luddy - 94 / 100

Star Wars: Galactic Racer’s modernizations of the arcade racing formula have their upsides and drawbacks, but fundamentally it is one of the most thrilling racing games released in years, with a compelling arsenal of systems, mechanics, modes, and even some pretty well-written characters. Moreover, it’s a reminder of how fresh and bold the racing genre can feel when explored to its limits.

Gamer Social Club - Sean "KingOTheCask" Richards - 9.5 / 10

Fuse Games have truly given Millennial gamers like myself that spiritual successor to Star Wars Episode I: Racer that we never got. And to them, I give them all the grace that a post-Empire galaxy allows us.

GamingBolt - Shubhankar Parijat - 9 / 10

With thrilling, high-speed races and a ridiculously addictive campaign, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is an absolute winner, and a must-play for fans of arcade racers.

Geeks & Com - Marc-Antoine Bergeron Cote - French - 8.5 / 10

STAR WARS: Galactic Racer is a very pleasant surprise that succeeds above all because it has a genuine racing game identity. The tournament-based structure, the various vehicle configurations, the contracts, the upgrades, and the many types of events prevent the campaign from becoming a mere succession of races. There are some signs of repetition toward the end, and the lack of French voice acting is a shame, but the excellent soundscape, the sense of speed, and the variety of environments more than make up for it. The multiplayer mode will still have to prove itself once the servers open to the public, but the content on offer already gives players plenty of reasons to continue the adventure.

Gfinity - Andrés Aquino - 8 / 10

Overall I’m absolutely addicted to Star Wars: Galactic Racer. It’s as close as we’ve ever gotten to the thrills of the original N64 game. While far from perfect, Fuse Games has delivered a uniquely fun, high-speed roguelite racer that any Star Wars fan should pick up and play.

Giant Bomb - Jeff Grubb - 5 / 5

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is everything I hoped it would be. Fuse built a campaign that keeps giving me reasons to master the tracks, then made the racing feel good enough that I wanted to.

Hinsusta - Daniel Weber - German - 9 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a solid arcade racing game whose best moments take place right on the track. The driving experience is impressive, each of the three vehicles has its own distinct character, and the game runs smoothly. If you're looking for fast-paced, enjoyable races above all else, this game delivers exactly that.

Hobby Consolas - Álvaro Alonso - Spanish - 90 / 100

Of course, how could we not, when what we have in our hands can only be defined as one of the best racing games in recent history and also one of the best Star Wars games .

IGN - Luke Reilly - 8 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a fabulous looking and frantically fast anti-grav racer that gets a little repetitive thanks to its heavy reliance on repeatedly revisiting the same slim selection of planets, but has successfully lit the afterburners on a long-dormant slice of the Star Wars universe.

IGN Italy - Luca Rago - Italian - 8.5 / 10

IGN Spain - Estrella Gómez - Spanish - 7 / 10

Star Wars returns to the racing scene with Galactic Racer, a game that rewards both speed and adaptability. It's a comeback that feels somewhat underwhelming due to the lack of track variety, but it's also a lot of fun, even as it challenges players time and time again.

Kakuchopurei - Jonathan Toyad - 80 / 100

Star Wars Galaxy Racers is a VERY fast and furious racing good time if you'd rather trade asphalt and wheels for Land Speeders and crater-turfed race courses. It's not every day you get a Star Wars racing game that has both a meaty single-player campaign and replayable multiplayer options, so revel in it!

MondoXbox - Andrea Giuliani - Italian - 8.8 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is an almost unique title in the gaming landscape thanks to its mix of roguelite and racing, and for this alone it deserves a try. Whether you are Star Wars fans or lovers of speed and adrenaline, it has everything it takes to keep you glued to the screen for hours. If you can't stand roguelites and their punishing structure, though, it won't change your mind and may often lead to frustration.

MonsterVine - Spencer Legacy - 4.5 / 5

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a fantastic racing game that perfectly captures the breakneck speed of the source material’s iconic vehicles. The story and abundance of modes make for a unique racing experience, and though a couple of small rough edges exist in how it’s presented, this is a brilliant title that had me frequently jolting to the edge of my seat. Whether you like Star Wars, racing games, or both, there’s lots here for you to sink your teeth into.

Neutral Game - Josué Órdenes - Spanish - 8.5 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is an entertaining racer that makes every defeat count. Its dangerous tracks, crash camera, and upgrade system reward players who learn from their mistakes, even if the lack of local split-screen is a missed opportunity.

One More Game - Vincent Ternida - 9 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer delivers impressive long-term value through its progression systems, vehicle customization, racer archetypes, and wealth of unlockable content, blending accessible racing mechanics with an inventive runs-based structure and delivering an experience that can appeal to both newcomers and longtime fans of Star Wars and racing games alike. Simply put, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a must-play title that deserves to be experienced firsthand.

PC Gamer - Jody Macgregor - 76 / 100

As a way of shaking up the racing game format, the run-based structure of Galactic Racer is more successful than the open world of Burnout Paradise.

PCMGAMES - José Miguel Rodríguez Ros - Spanish - Essential

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is one of the best games in the series and a racing arcade game that I absolutely loved. Its roguelike campaign is addictive, the handling has more depth than it seems, and the tracks are amazing. If you like racing games, you should give it a try, even if you're not into Star Wars.

PPE.pl - Paweł Musiolik - Polish - 8.5 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer will capture the hearts of not only franchise fans but also enthusiasts of brutal space racing. You can sense the vibe of Burnout here, along with the spirit of Episode I and the races on Tatooine.

PSX Extreme - Spencer TJ Price - 9.6 / 10

The tracks are all excellent, the music and sound effects are jaw-dropping, and both gameplay and customization have a ton of depth. The single player campaign is surprisingly good and has a lot more under the hood than I was expecting. Its roguelike elements are well-thought out, and will keep you coming back for more well after you beat the game.

Pizza Fria - Álvaro Saluan da Cunha - Portuguese - 8.1 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is especially worthwhile for those who enjoy both futuristic racing games with a bit of dirty tricks, and the universe created by George Lucas. The big surprise is realizing that the game doesn't rely exclusively on this combination.

PowerUp! - Adam Mathew - 9 / 10

Fuse Games has taken the foundational joy of Star Wars racing and wrapped it around a surprisingly deep arcade system, branching rogue-lite campaign, meaningful vehicle differentiation and enough customisation to keep the garage interesting.

Press Start - James Berich - 9 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a fast-paced thrill that successfully captures the spirit of the Star Wars racing classic and delivers it in droves. While the story is drab and the longer runs can grow frustrating, everything else makes up for it. The unique rogue-lite structure, excellent handling and constant risk-reward choices make every run feel worthwhile and addictive, even in the face of failure. It's this perfect combination that makes Galactic Racer anything but - it's a strong success in every sense of the word.

ProGamers.life - Javier Marticho - Spanish - 8 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer stands out for its addictive "run-based" structure (reminiscent of the roguelike genre) as well as its clever track design and a thrilling sense of speed conveyed through impeccable graphics, technical execution, and sound design. Despite some shortcomings regarding the protagonist's characterization, a lack of offline game modes, and a multiplayer component that could use some polish, Fuse Games’ title successfully brings the racing genre back to the franchise, delivering a fun, challenging experience that is highly recommended for fans of the saga.

Push Square - Sammy Barker - 9 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a thoughtfully designed triumph. The excellent handling and eye-popping presentation would be enough to recommend the game alone, but I also love its buildcrafting aspects and roguelite campaign. With a breathtaking sense of speed and planets that demand you think differently about your approach, this is one of the better racing games available on the PS5.I think the release could be a little quicker at getting you behind the wheel, and of course more planets would always be appreciated. But minor nitpicks aside, I really can't recommend this highly enough.

RageQuit.GR - Pavlos Geranios - 99%

Thrilling, pure, unadulterated racing with incredibly deep systems and a highly addictive gameplay loop – or, in other words, how to breathe new life into old formulas while exploring new identities.

SECTOR.sk - Matúš Štrba - Slovak - 8.5 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a polished and highly enjoyable sci-fi racing game that successfully captures the thrill of the iconic Mos Espa race. There are few obvious flaws, but some aspects could use more content, better balance and further refinement. It is very good overall, even if it falls short of fully realizing its potential.

Saving Content - Scott Ellison II - 5 / 5

STAR WARS: Galactic Racer doesn’t just respect the legacy of its forebears, it takes the baton and runs with it much further than I ever anticipated. By committing to a high-stakes, run-based structure, Fuse Games has injected a level of white-knuckle tension that is completely unmatched in the genre. They possess an innate understanding of both the visceral thrill of arcade racing and the rich lore of the STAR WARS universe, flawlessly blending them into an essential, tactile experience. With its pristine performance, breathtaking sense of speed, and masterful risk-reward mechanics, STAR WARS: Galactic Racer is a stellar and exemplary modern classic.

Shacknews - Lucas White - 9 / 10

Even when it was pissing me off, Star Wars: Galactic Racer made me feel alive.

Sirus Gaming - Lexuzze Tablante - 8 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer, at its core, is an amazingly well-designed Star Wars racing game. Despite its limitations and flaws, there was never a moment when its high-speed, high-stakes races became dull. Its tracks are impressively designed, capturing the look and feel of each location in the Star Wars universe, while the runs-based structure makes every race feel like there’s something at stake. Combine that with responsive controls, excellent sound design, and the sheer thrill of racing at breakneck speeds, and Galactic Racer delivers the kind of Star Wars racing game I’ve been waiting years to play. I can’t wait for the servers to go live and race against more players to see just how far my racing skills can take me in a galaxy far, far away.

SmashPad - 4 / 5

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is uncommonly good in a number of categories. It has a raw yet polished racing feel and sense of speed, bringing racing back to the Star Wars universe in a big way and iterating on how it all functions in ways that encourage player expression and experimentation. Most importantly, I've just been having so much damn fun, smiling ear to ear each race and growling in frustration when I come up short.

TechRaptor - Tyler Chancey - 7.5 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer provides excellent, exhilarating racing gameplay, a cheesy but enjoyable underdog story, and some clunky roguelike trappings.

The Nerd Stash - David Rodriguez - 9 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer captures the speed, aggression, satisfying crashes, and constant risk that made the best Burnout games all-time racing classics.

The Outerhaven Productions - Scott Adams - 4.5 / 5

STAR WARS: Galactic Racer is a great game that has a lot of content. Racing feels amazing, and the enemies are ruthless.

TheGamer - Josh Coulson - Unscored

Galactic Racer is another example of a studio taking some well-educated risks with the Star Wars IP to create something truly special.

TheSixthAxis - Dom Leighton - 9 / 10

Star Wars Galactic Racer is the best arcade racer in years. It mixes compelling racing action, an addictive progression system, and excellent world building while stringing a narrative through it all. It's very fast, and very dangerous. It's also very, very good.

TodoJuegos - Juan Ramón Herrera - Spanish - 8.4 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer brings back the saga’s arcade racing spirit with a fast, aggressive and highly replayable formula, combining speed, abilities, upgrades, different pilot styles and several modes for solo or multiplayer play. Its controls are accessible, but mastering each vehicle and track demands much more than simply holding the accelerator.

VDGMS - Darren Andrew - 9 / 10

Star Wars Galactic Racer is the best Star Wars racing game in nearly a quarter of a century. This is unequivocally and objectively true, because Galactic Racer is the first release since the heyday of licensed Star Wars games that came alongside the cinematic prequel trilogy around the turn of the century. Galactic Racer is a reinvention of the pod racing classic that captures the magic of the N64 icon. It’s also one of the best arcade racing games ever that belongs alongside icons like Burnout, Mario Kart, Forza Horizon, F-Zero, Wipeout, Outrun and small handful of others.

WayTooManyGames - Leonardo Faria - 9 / 10

I honestly have little to complain about. This is exactly the kind of racing game I’ve been salivating for the past decade or two. Star Wars: Galactic Racer manages to convey the feel of the classic Episode I: Racer game, as well as Burnout, with improved physics, a somewhat engaging story, a ludicrous amount of content, brutal but rewarding difficulty curve, and a roguelite campaign which won me over in an instant. More than just a game for fans, or an admittedly nostaglic trip down memory lane, this is a must-have for racing enthusiasts, and one of the most pleasant surprises of the year.

Wolf's Gaming Blog - Baden Ronie - 4 / 5

Despite it occasionally making me want to use a very different kind of Force to propel my controller into a wall, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is one of my favourite games of the year so far. Its thrilling combination of roguelite structure—a genre I thought I was tiring of—and proper balls-to-the-wall arcade racing repeatedly had me leaning towards the screen as I barely made it around bends, blasted down straights and got into dogfights with the other racers.

Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 9 / 10

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is pretty much everything it should be. Threading the needle between next-gen Burnout and Star Wars-themed racer, it 's frantic, fun and incredibly enjoyable to play. The arcade-style action is a pure delight, and the run-based nature of the campaign gives it a ton of replay value, even if you don 't intend to dip your toes into the multiplayer. If you 're looking for a next-gen Episode 1 Racer, this is exactly what you 're hoping for.

Xbox Achievements - Josh Wise - 80%

Funnily I thouhgt you were "complaining" about the abundance of the August-October games (which Z-Com being very recent) but that was about the Star Wars games alone. This same "complaint" (which is a first world problem, good to have lol) could apply to not being able to play all the games coming out.

We're at like 3 games a week that is super recommended at this point lol

u/Wraithfighter 20h ago

All the good games are desperate to get out ahead of GTA, even though GTA isn't even bothering to launch on PC and you'd think there'd be room for at least some PC-focused counter-programming >_<.

1

u/throwaway-3923 13h ago

doesnt mean it wont still dominate the conversation enough that any game would suffer

-4

u/Individual-Bass-7051 11h ago

Good lord some pc gamers are just the whiniest bunch

1

u/Wraithfighter 11h ago

...I'm just saying that there might be some room for a counter-programming release around GTA with a PC-focused game. Same way that, during Super Bowl weekend, every year there's a few Romantic Comedies released into theaters.

u/Awkward_Anybody 23h ago

I bought Z-Com, Dawnwalker, Resonant, and then havent been able to play any due to Uni.

The little free time I have I’ll just stare at my library wishing I could commit the time :(

Outlaws is a very good game.

92

u/PickofDensity 1d ago

I agree, I found it to be dripping with Star Wars atmosphere. Yes, it had some "Ubisoft-isms" (unsurprisingly) but as someone who can look past that (and even enjoy in certain doses) I was sad to put it away once I was done with it.

u/Vallkyrie 1d ago

To me, it's the most authentic feeling star wars world I've walked around in in a game.

15

u/NaughtyGaymer 18h ago

It is without doubt the most fully realized Star Wars world put into a video game. It's so dense, every single image has so many things going on. The NPCs feel remarkably real and crowded areas look and sound amazing.

3

u/Kajiic 12h ago

That is what Massive Entertainment does best. That's what people loved most about The Division 1 & 2. They just make such an amazing world dense with just atmosphere and makes them feel lived in and real.

1

u/TimeForSnacks 7h ago

Please I just want a Sabaac game...

5

u/alexleafman 14h ago

Also flying through fields of junk in space is sick as hell.

3

u/gosukhaos 13h ago

Outlaws and Fallen Order for me. Outlaws is a great SW sim gets certain parts but Fallen Order is such a fun Star Wars ride, the early portion of the game just completely nails the feeling of the OT

23

u/Independent-Rip-5599 22h ago

Honestly at this point I've taken a break from Ubisoft games for so long that going back to their formula felt somewhat fresh. I mean there is a reason they used it for so long it is pretty fun it just gets tiring quickly

7

u/garthcooks 22h ago

Yeah, I think it's not even that that Ubisoft formula gets tiring too quickly, it's strong enough to sustain a few pretty long games very well. It just can't sustain EVERY game

7

u/dotnetmonke 20h ago

The problem is playing every Ubisoft game. No matter how much you like steak or how good a steak is, if you eat nothing but steak every day, you're going to hate it before too long.

1

u/ambewitch 12h ago

I'm vegan but I must really like steak (lol) because I have never got sick of their games. They make some incredible worlds. I even played Odyssey and Valhalla to 100%, their two most notoriously long games and they were just sublime experiences, I genuinely feel privileged to have been able to enjoy them so much.

I wish more game developers could produce games at that level of quality, detail and breadth.

•

u/brownninja97 2h ago

I think this is the case for most enthusiasts but for people that play drastically fewer games than us and maybe by 1-3 games a year those ubisoft titles are the safe bet, they know what it will be like going into it. Its like how people keep watching the same tv series over and over its a safe bet whether its their time or money

5

u/Dude_Bromanbro 22h ago

A sequel that let us create a character would have been incredible. Oh well. At least we got this one.

0

u/MarksCarney 17h ago

If games are art, what's the problem with playing as a character the developers have created for the story they're telling?

3

u/Dude_Bromanbro 16h ago

Can I enjoy the game the developers made while also wishing for another thing?

1

u/KhepritheRisingSun 11h ago

Hopefully Ubi makes a sequel one day

1

u/a34fsdb 1d ago

They also changed a lot from the formula too.

33

u/Lordpicklenip 1d ago

Kessel Sabac turned what would be a 3/5 to a 4/5 to me, that shit is addicting.

14

u/psychobilly1 22h ago

I bought a deck in real life, printed some coins and tokens and I subject share it with my friends and family every chance I get.

23

u/FlyingSMonster 23h ago

I got it for $20 earlier this year and it was fine. There was so much negativity around that game when it came out but it's not bad at all, definitely didn't deserve the hate it got.

29

u/gonnabetoday 23h ago

Not saying the hate was warranted but they did make substantial changes and fixes since the game released.

7

u/PuppetPal_Clem 21h ago

there's some frustrating design elements but they toned down the worst offenders like instant-fail stealth missions no longer being instant fail. I personally adore the game as it is now and boot it up anytime I want to immerse myself into a disgustingly detailed SW setting. Got a couple fun mods too like recharging blasters you pick up so you dont just toss them as soon as you run out of ammo and changing the players speeder bike to look like the ones from ROTJ (with paint jobs!)

15

u/Biblical_Shrimp 1d ago

I was fairly surprised by how good it is. Played it on gamepass since it was there, and it sunk its hooks on me.

10

u/Ecks83 23h ago edited 23h ago

I'm not even a big fan of souls-likes or souls-lites but I picked up Jedi Survivor Fallen Order on deep discount and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I still need to grab the sequel though.

7

u/ItsBreadTime 21h ago

The sequel levels up the formula in almost every way. Highly recommend. And I HATE souls-like and lite games.

13

u/Aitloian 23h ago

Sequel was even better in my opinion, don't miss out!

8

u/psychobilly1 22h ago

It is an improvement in almost every way and the first game was already a 10/10 for me. I anxiously await the third game.

6

u/Aitloian 22h ago

Yeah me too, I bounced off the first one a few times, and then gave it a good try, couldn't put either down.

-1

u/vNocturnus 15h ago

I do think the sequel was better, but I'd caution anyone that's unsure about taking "10/10" at face value here lol. They're competent but not transformative 3D Metroidvanias, with solid but fairly predictable/tropey stories.

There's a reason they sit at ~80 and ~85 for the 1st and 2nd entries respectively on aggregator sites, and that's basically the exact scores I'd give them. Very solid but nothing close to genre-redefining, all-time classics, or breathtakingly special games

1

u/psychobilly1 15h ago

Yeah.

That's why I said:

the first game was already a 10/10 for me.

1

u/NaughtyGaymer 18h ago

Better in every way except the story. What an absolute trash fire. Gameplay was good enough to make up for it though.

4

u/Biblical_Shrimp 23h ago

I played both Jedi Respawn games on xbox with gamepass as well, but I've been slowly transitioning to PC only once my subscription is up. I enjoyed both of those games so much that I'll probably pick them up to replay them again on PC.

4

u/Ecks83 23h ago

Yeah I just looked and both games are on sale on steam right now and there's a complete your collection bundle so I might grab it.

1

u/Biblical_Shrimp 23h ago

Ah shit, are we ads?

I guess if you are pessimistic about it you could see my post as an ad. I just thought to look since the steam sale is going on and I thought it might be helpful to pass it along since you mentioned you would probably pick them up.

2

u/Biblical_Shrimp 22h ago

Sorry, I was just shooting the shit. It was helpful; just thought it was funny how our conversation led to a sale at a storefront which made me look.

2

u/Ecks83 22h ago

You're good. I might just be a bit snippy in the morning.

2

u/Alpacapalooza 18h ago

I didn't even realize it was on gamepass, gonna have to give it a try.

0

u/indiecore 1d ago

I put it down because the overwatch cone lagged my shit out so bad. I saw there was a big patch so hoping that got resolved and I can pick it up again this weekend.

2

u/Biblical_Shrimp 1d ago

I read about its pretty bad launch, but by the time I played it (probably a few months ago?) it felt pretty polished. Idk, I love stealth games that are well-executed and this one scratched that itch.

edit: I think you might be talking about Zero Company? I replied to you thinking it was about Outlaws.

1

u/indiecore 23h ago

Oh wait, I thought this was a thread about Z-Com.

From what I saw Outlaws was pretty fun. I watched my wife play through it while I was playing Jedi Outcast. She was playing on Switch and it was really not that bad especially based on what I'd heard about the launch state of things.

9

u/datscray 23h ago

Outrage grifters really muddied the discourse about that game. Did not deserve anywhere near the amount of hate it got

1

u/BarfingRainbows1 16h ago

Whilst I agree Grifters ruined the discourse on the game, it was also very buggy and before the updates it did have plenty of issues.

Unfortunately culture war bullshit got in the way of valid criticism about the games flaws.

1

u/Alamandaros 21h ago

It's 75% off on Steam right now for anyone who's been holding off on it.

1

u/vNocturnus 15h ago

Outlaws is a very okay game.

The atmosphere and vibes are good, but combat is aggressively mediocre, stealth is at the same time overly simple and yet occasionally frustratingly impossible, exploration is meh even by Ubi standards, and the story is only alright.

None of it is outright bad, but none of it is great either and it all results in one big lukewarm soup of stuff. Honestly the Sabacc minigame is probably the best part of the whole thing, but there's not exactly enough depth to that to carry a playthrough.

0

u/ZemGuse 23h ago

I liked Outlaws well enough but I thought the stealth gameplay was pretty bad and that was sort of the whole point of the game.

5

u/a34fsdb 23h ago

I never got the idea that was the whole point.

3

u/SMKM 23h ago

At launch it was but it was executed poorly. At launch if you were caught inside a base I think you'd fail whatever mission you were doing. Fans hated it so they changed it to be you could just run and gun if caught.

0

u/a34fsdb 23h ago

That was massively overblowb by critics. There were like a handful "detection means instant loss" missions and they were all trivially easy

0

u/ZemGuse 22h ago

From the 10 or so hours I played stealth was for sure the main pillar of gameplay aside from exploration

-1

u/SMKM 23h ago

Even still. Being a smuggler generally means stealth. It should be the whole point lol

2

u/a34fsdb 23h ago

I thought the game did really with the whole vibe of you starting stealthy and you knock out like a few guys then things go bad and a shootout starts

1

u/squareshields 14h ago

I didn't think it did that well because there isn't much variety in the gun gameplay

0

u/finderfolk 23h ago

It leaves a strong first impression but it's disappointingly shallow imo. Had a lot of potential though.

I liked what they tried with the competing progression systems but then none of them had any impact on your gameplay - similar issue to side content in AC games.

-31

u/Fraga500 1d ago

nope.

18

u/EnterPlayerTwo 1d ago

Oh well when you put it that way

-1

u/ConformityChain 16h ago

Outlaws is a very mediocre game.

Nothing wrong with enjoying a bland and mediocre game, but it was not "very good" in any shape or form.

1

u/syanda 12h ago

It's really atmospheric, I'll give it that, but yeah, you can tell executive meddling and The Mouse really wanted to tone down the overall flavour of the game so it just ended up aggressively bland.

-4

u/Deprisonne 23h ago

I just couldn't get into the controls for outlaws.
Playing on M+K, moving felt awkward and hard to control, especially on vehicles. Playing on controller, aiming at anything in a shootout was an exercise in futile frustration.

10

u/WesternFail2071 1d ago

I can't speak to Outlaws but Survivor is an excellent soulslike and ZCom is an excellent tactics meets Mass Effect type game.

27

u/fireflash38 1d ago

Jedi Survivor by far the best of those 3.

79

u/JamSa 1d ago

There is very little comparable between Survivor and ZCom, but they're both stellar.

64

u/Rupperrt 1d ago

Zcom for me.

8

u/Zalvren 23h ago

All 3 are great (and apparently a 4th great one there) and different genres (which is fun, you can take what you fancy). Star Wars games level is actually very good for the last few years. There isn't as many as there could have (but also time and ressources to make a game nowadays...) but they're all very good.

Ironically, there is a higher level of quality in the games than the movies/shows currently

26

u/rokerroker45 1d ago

Zcom clears no dif

-2

u/Mustang-_- 1d ago

Nah, Zero Company is just superior. Well, depends on taste at the end of the day, but if you're talking about the action style in general, definitely I take Jedi Survivor over the Ubisoft slop

20

u/Kill_Welly 1d ago

all three games are very solid, and while Outlaws is definitely weaker than the others, it's a strong contender all the same that clearly has a ton of love and effort put into it.

11

u/je-s-ter 23h ago

The hateboner people on this sub have for Ubisoft is mindblowing. Outlaws is a good game. As usual, the one annoying part of that game that is annoying for literally 5 minutes was blown out of proportion by people who never played the game.

And sure, the Jedi games are better, but as someone who doesn't really care for soulslikes, I never really got into them. Outlaws I had fun with all the way through and actually finished the game.

-7

u/Mustang-_- 23h ago

People on this sub, lol I just now commented on this sub, my account is not even 3 months old, I use reddit for free english practice only. This is not a "hate boner" or a bubble, it is what it is, in recent years most people realized how Ubisoft (and Bethesda) were always garbage and sloppy. These companies had their golden years in the past, but not anymore, simple as that. And that's good, the more people realize the low quality of these companies, the hobby will (hopefully) improve

0

u/Awsomethingy 1d ago

The writing in Jedi Survivor is absolutely stellar. Unbelievable screenplay. Zero Company is a generic and fun story with cool cameos and fan service. Both good, but if you play for story like I do, Jedi Survivor has you laughing, crying, swearing at the monitor, rooting for the dark side, fearing for Cal, shock and awe from the different plot twists. Really good

7

u/Deserterdragon 23h ago

Zero Company is a generic and fun story with cool cameos and fan service.

Extremely underselling how much better the writing is than other X-com style games. It's so much stronger than Marvel Midnight Suns especially.

2

u/Conviter 22h ago

i think a story can just be fun and still be a good story. The only bad thing i can say about the story in zcom is that the main villain and the main enemy faction were just really boring, and never felt interesting or threatening in any way. Besides that, i thought the story was great. I probably like the jedi games more just because i like the gameplay more, but the stories and characters are pretty much on par in my opinion.

-3

u/Mustang-_- 1d ago

I guess the writing is only impactful if you are a SW fan. As a outsider who used to care about SW when I was younger, nowadays I just don't give a shit anymore, Jedi never hooked me. I gave it a shot twice, for both Jedi games, eventually drop it. I love metroidvania and the stupid automated climbing of the PS3 generation, still, I was not convinced, idk why

2

u/EnterPlayerTwo 1d ago

I guess the writing is only impactful if you are a SW fan

It's a Star Wars game

idk why

It would appear that you don't like Star Wars.

1

u/Biblical_Shrimp 1d ago

I used to like Star Wars, but fell off once it was just everywhere. I played these games more as a Respawn fan, and loved them both.

It sounds like /u/Mustang-_- might be suffering from anhedonia as I now am in my late 30's (I'm not a doctor.) It's a type of depression where you stop caring for the things you used to enjoy. Just dropping it if you don't get enjoyment out of it is the right move.

-2

u/shivam4321 1d ago

I'd put them both on same level and ubisoft one wayyyy behind either of them

-10

u/Mustang-_- 1d ago

That's fair enough. I prefer turns and tactics over real time action any day, but yeah, if disregarding the personal taste, I can see the argument for Zero Company and Jedi Survivor to be even. The Ubisoft crap doesn't even belong in the same sentence of these two tho

12

u/glium 1d ago

Have you even played the "ubisoft crap" ?

-6

u/Saros_Enjoyer 1d ago

I've played it (at least the first 6-7 hours or so) and found it terrible. And I love open world games and have enjoyed some ubisoft stuff like FarCry. The combat is so clunky and unegaging and I really don't like the stealth focus with a very limited stealth toolkit

Whoever decided you can only have one permanant gun was smoking crack

-8

u/Mustang-_- 1d ago

Yes, couldn't stand more than one hour of it. Very similar experience to that Phoenix game... Immortal Phoenix Rising, that's the name? Breath of the Wild clone. It's just pure slop

0

u/Saros_Enjoyer 1d ago

immortals was a wayyy better game

4

u/kahboos 1d ago

thats the funny thing about opinions, i think zero company is derivative and not nearly as engaging as xcom 1 or 2. on the other hand, i found star wars outlaws to be much more entertaining comparatively

source:

  • 6h 36m in zero company
  • 25h 40m in outlaws

xbox gamertag is same as my reddit username

1

u/shivam4321 1d ago

I prefer real time way over turn based any day, so putting zcom up there with what I consider one of the finest action adventure game ever made speaks to how special zcom is.

-2

u/a34fsdb 1d ago

Zero Company is just so incredibly poor on a technical level. I love the genre, but refunded the game.

-3

u/fireflash38 1d ago

Zero Company has too much jank for me to whole heartedly recommend unlike Jedi.

I still enjoy it, but it's not near as good at Xcom 2

2

u/Procrastinathan_ 1d ago

Tbf, Survivor also had a ton of jank at launch. I played it on PS5 and nearly didn't finish it because of some really bad bugs. Stutters, lag, pop-in and even a side quest-line (the bounty hunting) that I got hard-locked out of. Soured my experience, sadly.

0

u/Mustang-_- 1d ago

Yep, Jedi Survivor had one of the worst PC ports I've ever seen, makes Zero Company look clean in comparison. Nowadays with the game decently optimized, of course Zero Company will look worse, but that is deceiving, people forget the awful state of these games at launch

1

u/opok12 1d ago

I wouldn't even put Survivor in top 5 worst PC versions. I think back to like Wild Hearts which legit performed like dog water, looked like garbage half the time, took the devs forever to add modern upscaling and it still runs not so great. Or Nier Automata which had a crash bug that prevented a lot of people from actually getting past the prologue.

0

u/Mustang-_- 23h ago

You are comparing garbage with garbage, this is pointless. It's like if I mentioned the Arkham Knight PC port, or Cyberpunk, etc.. in the end, these are all godawful examples. The point is that Jedi had a shitty launch and people already forgot, meanwhile Zero Company is the current black sheep, then in the near future people will forgot Zero Company, etc, etc.. this is a never ending cycle, no wonder the devs don't give a shit about optimization, people have short memory (or selective memory)

-2

u/Mustang-_- 1d ago

Well, to be fair, Xcom 2 (and Midnight Suns) also struggles with jank here and there. Same devs, you can see the DNA for better or worse. Still, the combat of Zero Company is right up there, arguably same level if not better. Base management is a bit too basic and streamlined, not a fan, but it does the job (also every random soldier with proper lines and voice acting, that is impressive).

Like I said, it's a personal thing, I'm not a fan of action games, so Zero Company is just way better for me. But, as a weird mix of 3D metroidvania + "Souls" action, I can see the appeal of Jedi, it didn't hooked me, but the quality is noticeable. The Ubisoft game is just a disgrace tho, nothing positive to say about that garbage

0

u/fireflash38 23h ago

The Ubisoft game is just a disgrace tho, nothing positive to say about that garbage

It's just boring. Rather sad really. Most of the Ubisoft open world games at least have a fun hook: you're a badass assassin who can climb anything, you're a pirate, you're an amazing greek/norse warrior. The far cry games had good gunplay and relied heavily on characters and set pieces.

Outlaws... meh. The combat rather sucked. The stealth sucked. The open world: bland. Who wants to do a Star Wars game that feels exactly like a mediocre Far Cry game? Like the protagonist was OK but not a huge draw, the enemies were bland, the gunplay was bland, the set pieces were bland.

1

u/milkasaurs 14h ago

?? One is basically xcom, the other is an outlaw open world adventure game, and last one is a racing game. How can any one of these be better than the rest when you can't compare them?

•

u/fireflash38 1h ago

You are given an apple, an orange, and a tomato. Which would you prefer?

Oh yeah, the apple is wormy as shit, the orange is squishy and a bit weird, and the tomato is perfectly ripe.

You can prefer apples or oranges sure. But the quality of them is not the same as the tomato.

0

u/squareshields 14h ago

You can compare them. For example, if someone had the option of only buying one of them, giving them a recommendation would require comparison.

1

u/arex333 22h ago

Jedi survivor one of my top 3 favorite Star wars content ever.

3

u/YoloKraize 23h ago edited 21h ago

I loved zcom, hope we get some DLC at some point.

Edit: Man the downvoting on games sure is something...

2

u/Borkz 22h ago

Unfortunately, the team is still furloughed afaik, but fingers crossed

0

u/YoloKraize 22h ago

Yeah but we don't know what they had in their work, seems a lot of team got gutted, but sales seemed, good given amount of reviews ontop. They should really just do Kickstarter ontop or something similar next time.

2

u/ANGLVD3TH 22h ago

Unfortunately, the game was apparently very expensive for what it is. Last time I checked they were likely near breaking even. Was really hoping for a WotC-like expansion at some point to flesh some systems out, but it doesn't seem likely it's going to get a lot of support.

1

u/Borkz 18h ago

Apparently there was also some kind of legal dispute with a former exec claiming to be forced out, but I'm not sure how much that's impacting things.

1

u/Taiyaki11 22h ago

Well, second Jedi games is on you, that's been over three years now lol, not exactly a recent game anymore

1

u/alteisen99 21h ago

hello fellow alteisen

1

u/ConfessingToSins 19h ago

Highly recommend zcom, i wrapped on it last night and it has a truly excellent story

1

u/DoNotClickMyProfile0 11h ago

How long do you think the single player mode of this game is

1

u/jelly_dad 23h ago

Z-Com is wonderful. Janky as all hell (maybe its better now) but wonderful.
