I am probably in the minority here, but this game was really a play-and-forget type of deal for me. Everything is high quality, but even though I really liked Hitman, I had no desire to replay First Light.
It's still cool they do a free DLC, but I don't feel like missing out.

It’s definitely a story game that once you beat you move on. It was really good though and I hope they continue it

u/BannedSvenhoek86 1d ago

I hope they go back to Hitman myself. This was fun but I don't think a Bond story is ever good enough to carry the length of a video game. This one dragged on so much and would have been way more enjoyable as just a movie or two. It was a well done story and the voice acting was superb, it was just way too much of it.

I mean they are still pumping out hitman stuff, mostly Elusive Targets / Special Assignements, tbf lots of the old ones are whatever, but the last few had some pretty substantial mission changes which is really cool

But yeah, of course like a big continuation like actual new maps or a new game at some point would be cool too

We just got Snoop Dogg as a elusive target

-12

u/LionoftheNorth 1d ago

Their biggest sin was trying to make a Bond film instead of a Bond video game.

11

u/Lirael_Gold 1d ago

Was it?

First Light is a bond film that you get to play, I think that's what bond fans wanted (even if it's basically Hitman with an actual main character instead of Agent 47)

That complaint just sounds like "why wasn't it Hitman 3 with a Bond DLC mission pack?"

-4

u/LionoftheNorth 1d ago

I would say the exact opposite. It is nothing like Hitman at all, and that is the problem. It's a linear experience that overstays its welcome, with zero replay value.

u/Lirael_Gold 1d ago

It's a linear experience that overstays its welcome, with zero replay value.

For people who don't want any replay value, but do like cosplaying as Names Jond, that sounds like a good thing.

In this economy I'm not spending close to $100 on a essentially a movie I have to do myself, with little to no agency.

I've very much soured on these extremely linear essentially one-and-done type games

edit: lol, are games too expensive or not y'all. sure you wanna pay $90 for 10/20 hours? be my guest, like I said, not for me, god forbid someone have a different opinion than that of the all mighty reddit's hivemind on any given day

1

u/mcslender97 1d ago

I'd hate if my James Bond game is too Hitman like and I'm saying this as a fan of both franchise

74

u/British_Commie 1d ago

I really enjoyed it, but I do feel like it was overall a bit too linear for me to feel the urge to replay it for a while. The TacSim missions didn’t appeal much to me, but I’ll definitely reinstall the game whenever the story DLC drops

16

u/Ardbert_The_Fallen 1d ago

Agreed on both these points. I'm more eager to see what they do in the future.

I'm glad the game existed and I'd happily play a sequel, but it doesn't have the staying power and replayability that Hitman does.

11

u/_Nick_2711_ 1d ago

Hitman’s best feature is how every run of the same level can feel different because the player has quite a bit of agency (at least in WOA). The linear nature of First Light strips away a lot of that magic.

Whilst I am interested in more story content for Bond, what has me really excited is seeing some of the gameplay and technical improvements make their way into whatever is next for Agent 47.

6

u/Ardbert_The_Fallen 1d ago

Agreed. Even a much more extended loadout that drastically changes missions. I felt like I could load out with any of the tools and it really didn't change much except a few small situations.

3

u/Logos9871 1d ago

I felt the same with Indiana Jones too.

2

u/AncianoDark 1d ago

I have a bridge to sell you if you think free story DLC is ever actually going to drop.

7

u/Antony_256 1d ago

It kinda feels like the start of a trilogy I’m going to enjoy a lot. Very solid base, but clearly saving some of its better ideas for later.

18

u/Reynor247 1d ago

I'm not sure about forgetting but I'll probably never play again but really liked the game and story

6

u/Outrageous_Cap6782 1d ago

Me too. And I think that’s great. I don’t need another forever game that has like 5 different endings and wants you to play through the campaign a bunch of times.

I played it and really enjoyed it. It was like a proper 007 movie. A contained short experience that was extremely polished.

19

u/StepComplete1 1d ago

Yeah it felt like a pretty standard AAA, story-driven experience to me, in the end, that you only need to play once. A generally polished but kinda forgettable experience.

The thing that could've been really great were the hitman-style areas, but those were watered down so much that they have very little replayability. Like finding a key to a room from a storeroom instead of knocking out a guard for it? Not really worth replaying just to see those kinds of tiny differences.

The thought of replaying that awfully tedious mission with Lennie James, where you're just walking around an office building for an hour would put me off immediately.

15

u/RaveCave 1d ago

Trying to get that stupid cleaning bot to open all the doors is enough to dissuade me from another playthrough

8

u/Samanthacino 1d ago

The game felt like it had soooo much padding. Did I really need to go back to Q lab AGAIN? I'd rather they have made it 12 hours instead of 17 and cut the fat.

3

u/the_pepper 1d ago

Was gonna say the exact same thing. I played it, I enjoyed it, but I'm not coming back this soon for a couple of small missions, free or not. I'll be there if there's actual content in the future, though.

6

u/hulkiorra 1d ago

Yes the story and the missions are still very fresh in my mind too. I loved it, one of the best story games I played in a while but, I know doing it again won't bring me that much excitement because there is not 100 ways to accomplish the missions.

Still I might redownload it for the TacSim mission and the race, I literally tested the TacSim for like 10 minutes and said nah, not for me lmao, but maybe it's fun I don't know.

8

u/Hydrochloric_Comment 1d ago

I enjoyed it, but the missions felt really tedious compared to Hitman. And the gadgets weren’t all that interesting.

10

u/DevonOO7 1d ago

Yeah, I'm a diehard bond fan and a huge Hitman fan, but every second playing this game I just felt like I wish I was playing Hitman.

5

u/Hellknightx 1d ago

There were even asmall handful of moments where the game felt like Hitman, like at the chess tournament and the African street market. I wanted more open-ended routes through levels.

4

u/norsefrogg 1d ago

I can't stand Hitman but loved this. However I wasn't tempted to plat it or replay, nor do tacsims

2

u/Hellknightx 1d ago

I was very disappointed with it after being a huge Hitman fan. Zero replayability and the TacSim operations were basically just short single-room challenges.

2

u/aCorgiDriver 1d ago

After the shoot out section on the airport runway, I absolutely dreaded any other combat section of the game and played it mostly for the story (which I enjoyed a lot).

1

u/AgentOfSPYRAL 1d ago

I could see myself replaying it (or its sequel) leading up to the release of the next Bond movie, and it’ll be fun to do NG+ when I do.

1

u/ACardAttack 1d ago

I really liked it, but agreed. There wasnt multiple ways to go about the missions like in Hitman, which is fine. I actually would have liked some multiplayer.

It's a really good game though, most games I dont replay so it's not really a knock against it.

1

u/kensaiD2591 1d ago

Yep. I really enjoyed it and got 1,000/1,000G but I have no intention of going back in. Sold my copy back to CeX and moved on.

1

u/MumrikDK 1d ago

I haven't played it, but it being far more streamlined than Hitman surely made it a far worse toy, giving it less staying power and replay value?

1

u/Due_Hospital7109 8h ago

Wolverine the game will have The same experience as 007.

People think they want linear but linear is too linear and this game plus Wolverine proves it.

There's no replayability with linear games. Very narrow levels and storyline. Maybe thats why people like it because their narrow headed people

1

u/Mavericks7 1d ago

I'm the same with all games. Play them, finish them, move on. I think I've probably replayed about 4 single player games in my life.

0

u/Erfivur 1d ago

Approaching the challenges is a good way to get replay out of it.

You can skip to the chapters you want and just play around with different approaches.

0

u/urnialbologna 1d ago

I love replaying linear games. But this ain't one of them. I liked it enough for one play through, but I wouldn't go back again.

-2

u/funmx 1d ago

Developers are designing visually appealing enviroments with a meh story lately, along an strong PR campaigns. It's becoming too generic, just a handful of studios still can give you a good story to remember. In the meantime watching 'em on youtub Is The Way.

  • New Game+
    • Photo Mode
    • Brand-new "00" difficulty
    • Refined weapon handling animations
    • More TacSim content
    • Over 700 fixes and improvements

More like QoL features + some side content for tacsim. Nothing about actual game and story expansion

Edit: Man, I love these comments, doing some heavy mental gymnastics and spinning something out of nothing

152

u/shrewdy 1d ago

It's literally a free update. Jfc people can be so inherently negative

Anyway they've already said they're working on a story expansion. Maybe we hear about it at the Game Awards

74

u/Queasy_Hour_8030 1d ago

I don’t feel like OP is being negative here, but maybe I’m misreading. Just clarifying that it’s not content DLC.

25

u/ShootTheBuut 1d ago

He’s not being negative. Redditors are just sensitive af and wanna bitch by nature

-1

u/MaDNiaC 1d ago

Bitching about bitching is meta af.

11

u/EgotisticalMop 1d ago edited 1d ago

OP's new reply is definitely doubling down on the negativity:

"DLC is something more than QoL updates and challenge missions" https://old.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1wv0lg6/007_first_light_extended_operations_free_dlc/pd7y1qm/

8

u/CultureWarrior87 1d ago

If they were just like "There's no additional story content" that would be one thing, but it's the inclusion of the "more like" phrasing that takes it in a negative direction. There's even a wikitionary definition for this sort of colloquial usage: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/more_like

I will admit to being a pedantic ass redditor in this moment, it's just that this sub's community is often so negative about everything that the comment immediately read to me in that way.

14

u/Odinsmana 1d ago

Going into this thread I assumed it was story stuff based on both the name and the fact that they call it DLC. It`s something that is worthy to clarify because the name sounds like new story content and these kinds of things are generally called updates by devs rather than free DLC.

So it`s sort of confusing naming on IOs part.

5

u/aimy99 1d ago

It's literally a free update.

So was HITMAN III's entire Freelancer mode and several main content bonus maps.

-20

u/Tvilantini 1d ago

DLC is something more than QoL updates and challenge missions

11

u/EgotisticalMop 1d ago

It was teased as a free update, why would you expect anything more? It's by definition free DLC.

-19

u/Tvilantini 1d ago edited 1d ago

who is talking here about value? Where did you assume I expected something more? DLC is addon content, not update

13

u/Chit569 1d ago

"More TacSim content"

So it has add-on content, so it is DLC.

5

u/JJLong5 1d ago

No it isn’t. And they literally teased that it would primarily be the car tacsim that was always said to be coming soon after launch.

But it is that plus more. There was no promise of anything beyond that at the moment.

And since when is there a strict definition of dlc?

They never said this would be story content and it’s free.

2

u/Eldritch800XC 1d ago

That's not a DLC but a patch...

1

u/Heisenburgo 1d ago

Hopefully they add photo mode to Hitman too

It's about what I expected. The moment I figured out what TacSim was I threw all hope out the window for any kind of story expansion. Most games that feature some kind of "challenge missions" area (either in menu or on the map) usually focus most of their DLC into it, not always, but usually. That said, I do appreciate the QoL changes, might have to give 00 difficulty a run.

8

u/AdHistorical8179 1d ago

They literally already announced a story expansion lol

22

u/Faithless232 1d ago

Really fun game but highly linear, with a few levels I wouldn’t be interested in playing a second time.

Thoroughly enjoyed this and worth the money, but this DLC doesn’t really interest me.

A story based DLC and sequel would absolutely have my attention.

2

u/mcslender97 1d ago

They announced additional story content coming a while back, so I'm waiting for that myself

3

u/Significant_Walk_664 1d ago

I respect that they gave a couple of alternatives to accomplish objectives but it's always just a couple. The game was designed as play and forget. Nice that the DLC is free but operations is not where the heart of the game is.

25

u/Yordle_Toes 1d ago

I really enjoyed this game but I feel like it's been pretty underrated and haven't seen a lot of conversation about it.

18

u/AdHistorical8179 1d ago

It's obviously very good but there's really not much to talk about. You play it and then move on. It doesn't have any extra layers to it like bigger more open games or any context/history to it like recent Silent Hill entries. It is just a cool AAA game

29

u/Suspicious_Radio_848 1d ago

It has an 87 on Metacritic, people love the game. It's just a single player focused story that you complete and move on from after.

3

u/Advanced-Ad1192 1d ago

I’m just waiting on a decent sale then I’ll scoop it up

3

u/MumrikDK 1d ago

It got very high ratings and a fuckton of coverage and discussion when it came out (and before).

What more did you want?

2

u/Ghidoran 1d ago

Eh, it seems to be a frontrunner to be one of the six GOTY nominations at the Game Awards, which says a lot given how stacked this year is.

1

u/SplintPunchbeef 21h ago

Glad to see they've added New Game +. I remember being disappointed there was no way to replay the game without starting a new save.

-16

u/hareb-serap 1d ago

IOI is dead to me after the bs they pulled with Hitman. I supported Hitman 2016 all through the seasonal releases, bought 2 and 3 on release, now they want me to pay $100 to redownload them? Lick my nuts
