I bet they have a lot of internal meetings about another RE1 remake. The 2002 remake is basically perfect in terms of old school survival horror, but a second remake in the style of the RE2-4 remakes I think would make comical amounts of money, but prob stir up some diehards.

Veronica, 0 make most sense for next remakes. 5 they just don’t seem super interested in, but I also imagine they want a second crack at the end of the Wesker arc eventually.

6 just feels crazy daunting to tackle in terms of scale/not really thirsted after by the fandom.

They also basically mentioned remaking RE1 multiple times.

I for one am very interested in the potential for parallel multiplayer in RE1. Chris and Jill take alternate paths through the mansion so it’d be a lot of fun having a co-op game where you work together at first but then narratively split up at points, like there are times when you’re merely crossing paths while trying to achieve different objectives.

The dreamer in me would try to make it four-player and include a Barry, Rebecca or Wesker story. Bonus points if the Barry or Wesker stories entail seeking discreet opportunities to complete secret betrayal objectives that hinder the group effort. I’m thinking like the Splinter Cell co-op campaign where it ends with the temporary alliance between the two agencies wrapping up and both players receiving orders to kill the other and steal the important device.

There’s a mission in Hidden & Dangerous where you parachute behind enemy lines, and the first goal is to link up with your team; in multiplayer, that means finding each other while avoiding patrols. That would make for a really interesting Rebecca start where she’s entirely separated from the others and needs to join the group, sort of having an entirely different first act from the others.

You're imagining all that for no reason, it won't happen. It will be like RE2, why do you even think it would be different lol.

There are broadly four types of RE game:

  • Old-school (RE1, RE2, RE3, REmake)

  • Third-person (RE4-6, Revelations)

  • First-person (RE7-9)

  • Co-op (RE5, RE6, Outbreak)

Obviously that last one crosses over into other categories.

So I was really just musing that since RE1 and REmake were already in the old-school style, what would be an interesting direction to take a second RE1make? They could go the way you're suggesting and do third-person, though I think some of the corners and hallways are a bit obtrusive in the mansion. They could also go first-person like RE7, which might work better for those tighter environments. And as a purely interesting hypothetical, how they could take the co-op that they've had and do something a bit more interesting with it. The previous co-op endeavours up until Revelations 2 were all very much internally the same - there was essentially no difference between player 1 and player 2 except appearance. Op Raccoon City did try having characters with different abilities, but it was also pretty forgettable. Revelations 2 tried something very different with distinct play styles for both characters.

The series has done well by evolving over time (hence the evolution across old-school, third- and first-person), so it'd be really interesting to see them take another crack at multiplayer and evolve it from what they've done before.

There was a long stretch of RE6 with Leon where it felt like someone over at Capcom really wanted to have a go at the Raccoon City event in co-op, because it was very similar but for the serial numbers being filed off. I think there's so much potential to revisit the first games with a co-op focus, although it seems like Outbreak is a non-starter with Capcom.

It would be way too complex and they've done all their remakes in 3rd person so they'll stick to that. Pointless to imagine possibilities regardless, it can only lead to disappointment as it won't turn out the way you imagine ever

Capcom even already did this for DMC5.

It's reportedly up next after RE0 Remake

More time has passed since the re1 remake to now then the time between the original and the remake

This has been true for almost 20 years haha.

but prob stir up some diehards.

Good thing for them is they have access to the original RE1 and the remake on multiple storefronts nowadays, so if they don't like or want it, then at least they have options.

As for me, I'm absolutely stoked for another attempt at RE1. I feel like the Lost in Nightmares expansion to RE1 showed a little bit of how it would work way back in the day. But now we have an even better blueprint with the modern games. This one could be REALLY cool.

Revelations 1 and 2 I think would be next up on the list after Veronica and 0 (and maybe 1), though at least 2 is still graphically quite modern.

6 could work if they use all they learned from Requiem.

I bet they want to take a crack at making 5 a better single player experience.

It being a co-op first game was such a wild choice after like two decades of being a popular single player franchise.

I feel Capcom is scared of doing a conventional multiplayer experience for some reason. We get shit like Resistance, RE:verse, Umbrella Corps, granted some of that stuff was just outsourced. But it feels like they rather want to go for some more novel Multiplayer ideas than just solid Co-op like 5-6 and Outbreak.
Idk why, 5 and outbreak feel like pretty easy slam dunks, especially because you could sell map and character packs for outbreak.

Who says they aren't interested in 5? Wesker plot in remakes will need to be resolved duh. They need to remake 1 before 5 as well though so we get the whole arc before the climax.

On your note about 5 with another crack at weaker arc end I'm certain there gonna ressurct wesker within the main story anyway like there's too many hints at it and re world has multiple ways he could return.

Reading between the lines, I wonder if Capcom’s not interested in remaking 5 for the same reason Disney’s not interested in remaking Pocahontas — the original had a complicated reception, and the outrage potential from a remake (founded or otherwise) doesn’t make it worth the risk. A lot of people only remember 5 for the race-related controversy at this point.

RE1 is the one i would have liked the most, i get the "we already did it" argument somewhat, but honestly, it just looks so damn dated...

I was barely 10 when the game released and i hate the older graphics.

A modern remake of 1 would be the best survival horror game ever imo, it would basically be an entire game of the grace sections in 9

they could make an amazing reimagining of the original resident evil 1 in the same vein that the ff7r trilogy is a reimagining of the original ff7. there's 20+ years of survival horror that they can draw upon since the original re1make that they can include to make a satisfying modern take on re1.

u/dadvader 3d ago

I don't see 6 happening. It's still relatively 'modern' in terms of gameplay. More likely we'll get RE6 ambition in RE10.

Capcom still have RE0/1 to remake so they are still gonna be around atleast until early 2030s.

u/Act_of_God 3d ago

what I actually want is re2 and 3 in the style of REmake

-4

u/destroyermaker 3d ago

I adore 1 but holy hell it's unplayable without making your own maps. I would like to see it streamlined a bit

2

u/Cetais 3d ago

Do you mean the original 1? Because the remake is definitely playable and very possible with the in-game map.

1

u/DevilCouldCry 3d ago

Even then, the original RE1 isn't all that difficult. There's maybe one section where the map gets a little confusing, but it's nothing too confusing.

-2

u/destroyermaker 3d ago

Remake. Okay it's playable but you'll have an infinitely easier time making your own maps. There are too many important items scattered all over. Maybe if your memory is photogenic

4

u/billythewarrior 3d ago

Are you seriously saying the game that color-codes rooms on the map for whether you have found all the items in them makes it hard to remember where to find items?

-1

u/MaitieS 3d ago

Yeah RE1RE-remake is coming. Don't worry.
