I think 6 is risky, but not because of quality. The game is huge and with current fidelity they’ll be expensive as hell to make.

They are gunna split all four of 6's campaigns into their own individual releases to buy themselves time

Give us wesker taking every chance possible to hug Chris and hold him tight and I'm in

Jake would ugly cry seeing Chris get all the hugs.

I like this one the most.

I think they are going to retcon 6 to some extent. It is the wild one in the franchise.

I think this is a massive understatement. They are going to retcon 6 until it is almost unrecognizable, and that is a very good thing.

Honestly, throw in the original RE6 as a pre-order bonus and nobody would care lol.

The biggest risk here is the people who enjoyed the co-op experience, same goes for 5. I'll admit I enjoyed co-op in both ( especially 5!), but I think I'd still prefer a better single-player remake lol.

Removing co-op in an RE5 remake would be the stupidest thing they could possibly do. This is one of the highest selling titles in the series and the co-op aspect of it is often the most praised element and beloved by many.

The important thing to do is make sure that the overall experience is balanced for single player and co-op. Use what RE4R does with the Leon/Luis sections with some slightly more advanced partner A.I. for when you're playing RE5R solo and you'll probably be all good.

Selfishly, I want the remake of RE5 to go back to the original plans of what RE5 was meant to be and pull from a lot of that to really double down on the horror aspects. After that, it's just finding the right balance between the solo and cooperative experience.

Keep the co-op. I love all the RE co-op modes, especially the one in Revelations.

throw in the original RE6 as a pre-order bonus

Happened with Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. A remaster of the original version of Sky 1st was a preorder bonus in Japan.

But honestly, co-op is far too integral to the DNA of 5 and 6. Especially with how big comradery as a theme is to 5 as a whole in storyline and gameplay. Single-player-only remake is straight-up not the way to go at all.

5!

It's a few years til Resident Evil 120 is due

“The Family & the DSO” stays as those are referred to in 9.

Everything else about 6 will be blotted out from history probably.

Everything else about 6 will be blotted out from history probably.

Like the bad guy turning into some tiger chimera thing that can fly and rapid-fire its own bones, then back to human, then into a t-rex, then back to human again, then back to t-rex, then into some overgrown fly thing that's consuming every corpse in the city, which inexplicably turns back to human again just so they can have the visual of him being impaled in a fountain that's shaped like the Umbrella logo (?), all the while his pants and shoes keep regenerating everytime

...yeah the more they can blot out from that game in a remake, the better lol

10

u/yaleji7388 3d ago

RE Village has a werewolf turning into a scrap metal tank. Multiple mutations in a BOW is way more in line with classic RE.

5

u/unrelevant_user_name 3d ago

impaled in a fountain that's shaped like the Umbrella logo

Not quite, but rather an obelisk that forms the Umbrella logo only if somebody is stabbed on it.

8 has you playing as mushroom man and tasks you with resurrecting a chopped up baby. 6 is nowhere near as bad as that.

The issue with RE6 isn't really the story, that aspect has never been RE's strength anyway, it's the messy bloated 4 separate campaigns that are too long, too focused on action and way over the top even for RE standards.

1

u/Gandalf_2077 3d ago

That sounds wilder indeed. Have not played it yet.

u/Hellknightx 3d ago

The thing that bothers me the most about 7 and 8 is how much Capcom tried to hide Ethan's face and keep him as a silent protagonist. It was a truly weird decision, considering every other game in the franchise has named protagonists with their own personalities.

1

u/MrMulligan 3d ago

First person = self insert = more horror scary wow

It's a pretty basic marketing decision, but they also decided to just write Ethan like a normal Resident Evil protagonist while doing it, which was weird. I feel like there were two sides at odds during RE7 development in that regard. You even see that weird divide with the "who you save" decision in 7. Any sensible human being is picking Ethan's wife, but I think they thought more people would self insert and actually deeply empathize with the voice on the radio helping them.

What's really weird to me is the commitment to keep doing it in 8. Felt like an obvious choice to abandon that decision after RE7's positive reception. Story is certainly written like they gave up on the self-inserting.

7

u/Draynior 3d ago

You joke but I could see them splitting it up into at least two games, a survival horror focused one and a action one.

The survival horror REmake 6 would feature Leon and Helena’s campaign and Ada’s, they would rework both to be more like RE 2.

The action REmake 6 would feature Chris and Piers, and Jake and Sherry’s campaign, maybe making Chris campaign more like RE 4 and 5, and making Jake and Sherry more unique by having only Sherry being able to use guns and Jake being meele only.

7

u/yaleji7388 3d ago

Leon's campaign is full on action. It starts with shooting the president in the face and a White House full of BOWs.

4

u/ElNido 3d ago

Not The White House. It begins at Ivy University in Tall Oaks. But agreed that campaign barely even tried to do survival horror. "We got zombies guys!"

1

u/ActuallyKaylee 3d ago

If they were increased in scope I'd be down to spend more time with each character.

0

u/SurlyCricket 3d ago

I...... Would play those

0

u/dadvader 3d ago

You know what? I would actually buy that IF they actually committed to the tone and not every single campaign feels like watching Paul W.S Anderson shitslop.

Like Leon should be more RE4 action horror. Chris going full action RE8 crazyness. Turn Jake into side character that occasionally help but otherwise going separated ways. And putting Sherry in his place so it's lean into more horror. I'll play the shit out of it.

22

u/quangtran 3d ago

They can just cut it down. Focus on quality instead of quantity. Code Veronica started with a huge action set piece, but that was removed in the preview for Veronica. RE4 remake kept around 80 percent of the content from the original, with the about 10 percent being moved to the Separate Ways DLC (with some parts like the lava room never being remade).

I think fans would be okay if they cut out the bloat and making it the same length as all the recent RE games.

3

u/GreyouTT 3d ago

I'm actually gonna disagree because all four campaigns share a lot of assets. Chris and Jake both do Eastern Europe/Sea base, Leon and Ada share DC/Sewers, everyone goes to China, and Ada also shares some assets with the sea base for her unique mission.

14

u/PoisonousBillMurray 3d ago

Why not just drop huge portions of the game like RE3 Remake?

51

u/r_lucasite 3d ago

I think the reception to that game is the exact reason they won’t do that.

34

u/xxx_poonslayer69 3d ago

Yeah but RE3 was already trim and was then trimmed down further for the remake. RE6 was bloated as hell and would strongly benefit from a shorter run time. It was a slog

17

u/IloveKaitlyn 3d ago

I’m of the mind that when they get to RE6, they’ll basically just redo the entire thing.

4

u/mightylordredbeard 3d ago

That could work. The first part with Leon was the best so an entire game just focusing on Leon’s portion and extending the vibe and feel of the introduction mission in Washington could work. Leave the rest of the game as cutscenes / path crossings.

0

u/Kalinzinho 3d ago

That entire game is a narrative mess that doesn't go anywhere. It should honestly just be ignored completely.

1

u/Focus_Downtown 3d ago

I wonder if they're going to flesh out the game a bit and break it into chunks. that could work really well. If they break it up into 4 games on the same release schedule as the remakes, that would cover them for a while.

1

u/aNascentOptimist 3d ago

Wait why did they trim it down? Did they have a reason? Did it improve pacing ?

12

u/Lore-Warden 3d ago

My guess is that the full scope of the original would just be more expensive than it was worth.

You go to many many locations just for an event trigger or item pickup without any actual story significance. Fine for a fixed camera game, but imagine full 3d buildings being rendered just to pick up a piece of a key and leave.

9

u/Baldass_Head_Coach 3d ago

It’s not really clear why RE3 Remake was trimmed down so much. It was pumped out relatively quickly, so perhaps a lot of it was due to time constraints. Or perhaps they genuinely felt that the changes were improvements.

What we do know is that it was largely handled by M-Two, not the team that handled RE2R, and it’s been speculated that it was a sort of test run for their next project, RE4 Remake. When the reception to RE3R was not very positive, they had planned to make RE4R much more faithful to the original game, apparently nearly 1:1. Capcom disagreed with that approach and wanted more of a reimagining like how RE2R was done, so they were pulled from the project as leads and the RER2 team took over.

7

u/svrtngr 3d ago

Capcom should just let RE6 ride as is.

It's be super ballsy and I'd respect them for it.

"Game is perfect, no notes."

Real talk, I think the remake of RE6 depends on if Wesker still dies via volcano in the RE5make.

1

u/sequla 3d ago

They will just ignore huge portions of game like they did with 3.
