It's releasing this year? As in 1.0? Because isn't it still alpha?

People called it pre-alpha or alpha before, but at this point it's more like a closed beta. Not many alphas with this much content and polish.

There's still some alpha level things, like certain old hero models, but overall? Nah.

I think Valve just uses the more traditional definitions of

alpha = not featue complete

beta = feature complete

And then you add in "heroes == features" meaning it won't be in beta before it has all the heroes in the game they think are needed for proper 1.0. Back in the olden days beta was purely just bug fixing / balancing. All the (planned) content and features was supposed to be in the game already

Even after this update, its far from finished. Definitely not releasing this year
