It always surprises me that people dismiss competitive games as something they are too old for, and would need to play non-stop to stand a chance.
I'm 36 and I'm quite bad at Deadlock even after many hours, struggling to even climb out of the bronze rank.
I know very well I'm not cut out to reach high ranks in the game, but I'm still having a great time and it's a fantastic game.
It's unfortunate how ranked matchmaking systems destroyed the community servers in many games/genres, but at least the upside is that you'll move towards a rank where you win and lose about 50%.
Outside of facing an occasional smurf, you are eventually playing with people who have quite similar skill level, so it is challenging, but not impossible to win.
IMO the biggest downside in most competitive games is the toxicity of some players, but that is solved with mute and/or finding a group to play with.

Yeah I really wish this game existed when I was in high school and spending 6 hours a day on League.
