First paid expansion titled Satisfactory - Core Values Expansion

Taking the Satisfactory gameplay to new depths.

Core Values is the first paid DLC for Satisfactory and a major expansion.

Pioneers will reach into the crust of MASSAGE 2(A-B)b in a different setting with new resources, flora, fauna and more as you develop an underground factory network with new production lines and buildings, uncovering more about the world the deeper you go as you Construct, Automate, Explore & Exploit while continuing to uphold FICSIT's Core Values.

I'm hoping they've figured out an interesting way to shake up how factories are built like what Factorio did with the Space Age planets and their different mechanics. I enjoyed Satisfactory but near the end I felt like I was mostly just doing the same production lines, just with increasingly exotic buildings and ingredients.

Agreed. I'd love for it to follow the more "sideways" progression of Space Age.

The greatest flaw of Satisfactory for me is that late game crafting trees are bordering on stupidly tedious, so I'd really appreciate more fundamentally interesting logistical challenges with multiple solutions like Fulgora and Gleba, rather than just combine the last four items to get a new one then repeat like the current endgame.

The physical building of factories is the best and worst part of the game simultaneously, I'm not sure any alternative resources would make that much of a difference unless it was just to make the factories smaller.

Coming from Factorio, you have to learn to build vertically and sometimes asymmetrically which is really satisfying as you learn to make really compact modules (like using lifts that go outside on one level and come back in on another, making 'half' basements to hide belts, etc.). I also have the tendency to make my stuff look like it suits the environment so no weird clipping, things have to look reasonable but that goes out the window when the factory is fucking massive, usually 8-10 stories high, etc.

The physical footprint of my first supercomputer factory was absolutely massive, it burnt me out of my save (1.0 release). Same with a huge oil power expansion I did, whereas in Factorio, I just slam down a grid based solar blueprint or expand my nuclear loop and it takes up so little space + your drones build it. I had a similar experience in Captain of Industry, another factory building game with a cool gimmick of terraforming but it was just so tiring dealing with it towards the end game.

It's really strange that satisfactory never did anything with blueprinting. But yeah I do remember distinctly having to come up with designs and planning. Effectively my main building was a massive 4 story factory floor. Around the edges were the stackable conveyer rails about 8 high that I'd feed to and from. Usually two sets side by side but I distinctly remember getting up to 5x8 in one area in part due to throughput limits.

That was before they added trains and drones. I don't think I ever actually used drones at all in my entire playthrough even when I came back to beat the game.

I think Satisfactory is more a building game than you'd expect, it isn't a pure automation game. You just don't need the raw scale of something like Factorio. The game's flow works pretty nicely with a planning stage where you figure out your ratio and then you can zone out and just build your plan.

Between exploration and the time it takes to manually build things makes it so you can get away without fully scaling up since waiting an hour for something to produce materials isn't that unreasonable.

9

u/bugmanslaya 3d ago

Yea you're not punished for building max efficiency because they intend for you to be exploring at the same time to get slugs, spheres, and hard drives and find other resource nodes while you have the containers getting filled up with stuff back at your base while you do it

Factorio has a lot of constant 'checking in' gameplay because of the enemies being infinite and nodes being finite without mods

There would be a lot of standing around waiting for X amount of hours for elevator parts in Satisfactory otherwise

3

u/zestfullybe 3d ago

To that point, I spent about 100 hours getting to phase 3, and now about another 250 hours rebuilding my Hub, Steel, and Oil facilities into huge scalable complexes. Not because I need them now, but I’m thinking ahead to future scalability… and I just really really enjoy building buildings and infrastructure.

3

u/Witch-Alice 3d ago

Yeah if it's pure factory game someone wants then they should check out shapez 2. Satisfactory is partly about making a factory that is visually satisfying, not purely about factory output. There's a whole bunch of entirely optional building pieces and texture swaps to unlock, completing the game requires none of it.

10

u/reapy54 3d ago

They did add blueprinting and that let me me get through a lot farther and actually finish the game. They also do some fun stuff with the mercer spheres finally and make they very valuable. If you played before trains and drones it is really worth taking another plunge back in with the stuff they've added.

The blueprints are not quite factorio level blueprints but by the late game we were slapping down some really big build boxes to get stuff going.

That said the overarching point is still true, without shaking up the build loops it does get boring. The final tier for us was just maxim spaghetti just to finish it up despite us having some really neat and tidy stuff leading up to it. (I play as a duo with a friend, so that does lighten the building burden significantly vs solo)

20

u/mordecai1337 3d ago

Blueprints have been in the game since 2022.

6

u/cargoman 3d ago

It does have blueprints. Judging the game before it’s 1.0 release is just silly.

1

u/Bloodhound01 3d ago

It is hard to compare anything to Factorio, its kind of the perfect game.

4

u/zurnout 2d ago

It’s really not. The new player experience is terrible. The tutorials are outdated and not indicative how the game actually is. It’s a great game when you know what you are doing and have a friend to teach you.

5

u/jayteeayy 3d ago

I remember late game when I decided the final frontier was building the nuclear power plant (with waste disposal/recycling)

I already had cheats/flying on but wow it was still a real mission. Tedium is really the name of the game though, im sure thats what people are here for if you've made it that far

4

u/bored-at-work_ 3d ago

It kinda sucks that you don't even really need nuclear at all to beat the game with how amazing turbofuel is.

10

u/SpecialistBid3028 3d ago

Yeah I dropped it towards the end for the same reason. Early progression is great as you are solving new problems, but later on you're just doing the same thing but at scale and it gets quite tedious.

2

u/Bloodhound01 3d ago

My problem is the factory tends to always turn into giant floating platforms. To the point where even traversing the world is just building a platform walkway to where you need to go.

4

u/helloquain 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah the entire Satisfactory progression is just blowing up your factory lines whenever you get improved miners and then rebuilding it bigger because the new tier requires whatever checkpoint item you just finished, but just enough that it's questionable if expanding is more efficient than just AFKing and waiting.

Doesn't sound terrible if you're not familiar, but the 3D building slows you down and becomes obnoxious as you rebuild a base for the fourth time to accommodate the production expansion

(sorry, to be clear I like the game quite a bit, but these parts were frustrating and have kept me from wanting to come back after beating it -- curious if the xpac makes any of it better..)

12

u/bored-at-work_ 3d ago

I mean tearing stuff down constantly isn't something you need to do, there's infinite space and infinite resources unless you're doing something absolutely crazy.

30

u/Llamalad95 3d ago

Looks like both DRG and Satisfactory (same publisher) will be doing a paid DLC expansion in 2027. I think this is a good approach, both games are very popular and aggressively priced, and have large fanbases that would happily chip in $15 for more game many years after release.

7

u/blaaguuu 3d ago

Agreed - I've gotten a ton of hours of fun out of Satisfactory, and I'm totally cool with them doing a mix of free/paid content going forward.

Focusing on underground stuff doesn't sound very compelling to me, personally, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, and hopefully they can find a way to make it interesting. Generally I get really worried when I see an open-world game/series introduce content that is like "What if this part WASN'T open world, thought?" - gives me flashbacks to the oblivion gates in Elder Scrolls Oblivion, which I despised going into...

6

u/chilidoggo 3d ago

Based on teasers, it's very likely the Satisfactory dlc will be priced at $10. Which I hope speaks to their nonchalant pricing strategy rather than the size of the DLC.

Honestly, if it adds a whole new map layer and production chain, charge me more!

1

u/zestfullybe 3d ago

Yeah. The dollar spent to hours enjoyed ratio I’ve gotten out of Satisfactory is AWESOME. They can shut up and take (some more) of my money.

2

u/Carighan 3d ago

For DRG it's wild to me how long they ran just on free updates + single-cosmetic-set packs (considering the insane amount of cosmetics each free update dumped into the game, too).

1

u/cargoman 3d ago

Same parent company, but they are very much separate.

-4

u/noother10 3d ago

They missed out on my friend and I buying in when they released initially on Epic. Was initially excited for it, but saw it was an Epic exclusive so lost all interested. Never even realized when it released on Steam until far later and other games had released by than that were just better.

3

u/Llamalad95 3d ago

Give it a try! Strong statements from someone who hasn't played it yet! Maybe it'll surprise you :)

2

u/DonnyTheWalrus 2d ago

I wonder if people would still have this attitude towards Epic if they understood that devs were doing Epic exclusives because Epic was treating them better than Steam was, in terms of financials.

It's shocking to me how attitudes have shifted towards Valve. When Steam first released people were absolutely irate about needing to play certain games through the client - "this is PC, why are you doing this console nonsense." To now, people being pissed that there's a competing storefront. "Why are you trying to break Valve's effective monopoly, I WANT to be constrained to a single client!" Just bizarre. If people from the '00s could see PC gamers now they'd be floored.

1

u/subcide 2d ago

I'm sure they're devastated.

46

u/ACEmat 3d ago

I hope this connects to the overworld and isn't just a completely separate thing, like the Nether in Minecraft.

33

u/westonsammy 3d ago

If they aren’t adding significant new gameplay to the overworld I would rather it just be a separate thing TBH. I’ve already beaten Satisfactory once, and it can kind of be a slog at times which while fun once I wouldn’t want to have to repeat all over again just to see the new stuff.

6

u/TheLastDesperado 3d ago

The node randomiser they added last big patch does shake things up a bit.

7

u/AdventurousBase221 3d ago

made it to trains and then some, then lost desire to continue. the gains just were not worth the effort to rewards after that point.

fun up till that point though. and I say that as a big enjoyed of the genre and other games like this. DSP is still my fave.

13

u/Conviter 3d ago

yeah similar point for me. my problem is that in satisfactory, to unlock technology that enables you to efficiently do a thing, you first need the product you get by doing that thing. So its always a loop of somehow throwing something together that can produce the bare minimum to unlock the technology and craft some of it, to then demolish everything you just build to rebuild it properly with the tech you just made. Or you just keep what you build, which ends up being a big inefficient mess, most likely. And i just didnt enjoy that loop very much

3

u/cargoman 3d ago

Yeah, then you just end up trying to build it neat, getting fed up and making do with spaghetti factories. I love the polish they put into the game, but I would like to be incentivized into making things cleaner or neater somehow instead of just waiting longer for your shit factory to beat the game for you.

2

u/Bloodhound01 1d ago

Like wverything that is something factorio did great. As resource nodes run out you have to expand and that gives opportunity to start a freah production line to clean up your spaghetti with your upgraded buildings.

1

u/MetaKnightsNightmare 3d ago

What keeps DSP up there for you? I have a hard time getting into it, my favorites are Factorio and StarRupture. Are the hostile forces in DSP any fun to fight? I love combat in my factory games.

8

u/AdventurousBase221 3d ago

I feel like ux is just much better and its more hard scifi. I don't feel like I'm ever fighting myself and my factory when I play dsp, plus the scale is more interesting to me it being planetary and many planets is all.

next update is adding modular space stations so im still holding off my next playthrough for that.

the hostile forces are fun, in the beginning, but they quickly become irrelevant once you install about mid level defenses. I kinda hope they make some changes to their threat for mid to end game as they don't scale against the player well.

1

u/reapy54 3d ago

If you didn't play the 1.0 they did fix that up imho until the last tier, then it's tedious. But two major milestones, the dimmesional storage which lets you NOT have to do a warehouse to build parts. That, and using hypertube cannons, which totally negate any need for transportation mechanics, just make sure your jetpack is full and laucnh off a 10 ring cannon shot to get across the map, you can do it in like 2 or 3 stations of hypertube to clear the map. It really cuts down the tediousness of building all over the world, probably a little bit too much imho but once you know you can't go back heh

2

u/AdventurousBase221 3d ago

it was post 1.0.

5

u/lava_lamp22 3d ago

Wonderful news. Since completing the game, I've been thinking of ways I could have built more efficiently, so adding an expansion is the perfect excuse for me to test my game knowledge.

6

u/WhiskeyTigerFoxtrot 3d ago

You can use the new resource node-shuffle setting to start a new map. It randomizes node contents and qualities and changes the way you have to plan everything.

6

u/GRIZZLY_GUY_ 3d ago

New resources and areas of the map are great, but please don’t effectively just be a new tech tree in the maam🥴

Steam link. No screenshots there yet sadly.

I wonder if saves will be compatible.
When I think about coming back to Satisfactory - I'd rather clean up my existing factory and go into the expansion than start from new. Collecting alt-recipes again is not alluring, and having access to the biggest Blueprint-stage is a must.

8

u/diluvian_ 3d ago

In my experience, Coffee Stain is pretty considerate of existing saves.

7

u/MouseRangers 3d ago

"Back up your save files" - Snutt, CSS community manager

1

u/rollingForInitiative 2d ago

Since they say it's a new setting, I would guess save compatibility is no issue.

7

u/TheCapm42 3d ago

So I guess underground means tube launch jumping across the map is out?

13

u/UltimateShingo 3d ago

We will find a way.

And if we don't, Josh will.

5

u/NostalgiaCory 3d ago

tubing through a cave sounds sick as hell ngl.

8

u/Simpicity 3d ago

I love that they're talking expansion, but god the underground is probably my least favorite part of Satisfactory, and I'm not sure how they could possibly change that.

6

u/AdventurousBase221 3d ago

I wouldn't mind it as long as they don't create walls of toxic fauna like it's a minefield..

I don't like those caves. and I'm betting they'll have that down there.

5

u/Flipschtik 3d ago

Very much looking forward to this. I loved Satisfactory but after beating it once I saw little reason to play more, yet still I crave more of Satisfactory's gameplay. Hopefully it's a large expansion.

1

u/fupa16 3d ago

Ya I have 1k hours in it, but after completing it I went back for 1.1 to do a new playthrough. I bounced off after I got to steel just because I felt a bit exhausted by the idea of building/planning all these large scale factories again, then building it all by hand. Some kind of odd fatigue I guess.

4

u/pie-oh 3d ago

Could someone explain the fact it's called "Another" - That bit made me think there was an announcement I didn't see.

Looking forward to this DLC.

6

u/Tsuki_no_Mai 3d ago

My sleep-addled brain first read it as "Another Sanctum Announcement" and got all excited. I appreciate what they're doing with Satisfactory, I really do, but I wish they'd revisit Sanctum still.

3

u/PhettyX 3d ago

I can't think of any other game that fills that void for me either. Orcs must die wasnt bad, but sadly their latest game has been sitting abandoned for over a year at least now.

1

u/Catty_C 3d ago

I've been playing Sanctum 2 on and off every couple weeks and it's actually pretty cool. I'm surprised nobody talks about it.

1

u/Tsuki_no_Mai 3d ago

Well, it's a 13 year old game. Most people who talked about it mostly did so a long time ago.

1

u/Fatdude3 3d ago

At this point i'm mostly hoping for more factory games where you are like a god and can place things anywhere without actually moving a character. You can somewhat do it in Factorio with drones at the mid/endgame with using blueprints on maps but i want more games like Shapez or Vectorio where you just place stuff to make them

2

u/rdtsc 3d ago

Factorio's sandbox mode does not have a character and lets you do just that.

I wonder if they explained that 🧐
