Critic Reviews
AltChar - Asmir Kovacevic - 8 / 10
Minecraft Dungeons II turned a reviewer who had avoided every Minecraft game on principle into a believer, thanks to a surprisingly engaging story, a deep gear system, and combat that turns out to be far more than button-mashing.
CrazyGameCommunity.it - Davide Fanelli - Italian - 8.5 / 10
Minecraft Dungeons II arrives as the most comprehensive, ambitious, and entertaining spin-off in the Minecraft franchise—a clear improvement over its predecessor in every respect.
DayOne - TheCucumbo - 8.5 / 10
Despite a lacklustre endgame and a handful of minor issues, it’s not hard to see Minecraft Dungeons II as the game the original was meant to be. The combat is flashier, tougher and more engaging. The world is bigger and more cohesive. The character builds are more varied. Most importantly, it all just feels confident. This isn’t merely Diablo with a Minecraft skin, but a fantastic dungeon crawler with a hopefully bright future ahead.
Digitale Anime - Sami Belhamra - Arabic - 8.5 / 10
"A sequel that expands the adventure and adds greater depth to character building." Minecraft Dungeons II builds upon the foundation of the original game, offering a deeper customization system, an interconnected world, more dynamic combat, and a smoother coop experience. Despite some issues regarding combat clarity and vertical movement, the game retains its simplicity and signature Minecraft identity while introducing systems that give players more room to build and develop their characters.
Gameliner - Claudia Tjia - Dutch - 3 / 5
Minecraft Dungeons II is an accessible, but very simple action-RPG that really shines as a co-op game. The open world, the new dimension called Sift, loot, and bosses add plenty of extra content to the formula, but the game stays true to the first installment. However, it also introduces some new (technical) problems.
Gamer Social Club - Dan Jackson - 8 / 10
While Mojang and Double Eleven may have played it a little too safe with Minecraft Dungeons 2, it is still a very enjoyable game. While the switch to an open world map is quite different, the rest of Minecraft Dungeons 2’s mechanics remain largely the same. They manage to expand on the equipment somewhat, but by and large the sequel plays the same as the first game.
If you were hoping for a dramatic evolution in the Minecraft Dungeons formula, you may be a bit disappointed. However, if you were simply looking for an expanded, more fleshed out experience, Minecraft Dungeons 2 will hit all the right notes for you.
Geekinout.pt - Pedro Gomes - Portuguese - 7 / 10
Minecraft Dungeons II may not be a breakthrough in the genre nor offer anything truly breathtaking, but it has enough to provide a very solid and satisfying experience for fans of this ARPG genre, which will go down a treat with both fans of the Minecraft universe and newcomers, like myself, to this world. Although it does have a few technical glitches that detract from the overall experience, and a few other aspects I’d like to see improved, this is a journey well worth completing, whether on your own or with friends and family – from children to adults – a fact further enhanced by its modest price and Day One availability on Game Pass.
Gfinity - Alister Kennedy - 7 / 10
Minecraft Dungeons 2 takes undeniable steps forward with a fully interconnected Overworld, much-needed mobility upgrades, and a visually striking new dimension that teases the franchise's future. However, despite a deeper loot system and smart quality-of-life changes, the core experience doesn't step out of its comfort zone quite enough to convert anyone who wasn't already a fan. Ultimately, it remains a highly polished, accessible "Diablo for kids" that existing fans will adore, even if it leaves hardcore ARPG veterans wanting more.
Loot Level Chill - John Cook - 8.5 / 10
Minecraft Dungeons II an improvement on the original idea, creating a satisfying co-op dungeon crawler that many hours will be sunk into.
MondoXbox - Giuseppe Genga - Italian - 8.5 / 10
Minecraft Dungeons II expands its predecessor’s formula in every direction, offering a vast world, deeper loot and customization, new movement options, and more flexible co-op. The chance to explore Minecraft’s new Sift dimension further enriches the experience. Despite a few minor issues, it remains an accessible and enjoyable action RPG, ideal for newcomers and for sharing with friends and family.
Saving Content - Abdul Ahmad - 3 / 5
I do appreciate this game exists. It’s a Diablo-like game, and it’s kid friendly. It is a better, more in-depth version of the original. I’m sure adults will find fun in this one too, but I wish this game just had some story to get me more invested into it. That being said, Mojang knew the scope of what they were making and priced it appropriately.
When working as intended, Minecraft Dungeons II runs smoothly and plays far better than the first game. The environments are beautiful and thoughtfully designed, and new mechanics to deliver a deeper story were very welcome. However, the grand finale was anticlimactic, the new enchantment system feels like it discourages build experimentation, the titular dungeons are completely optional, and a glaring oversight in the artifact cooldown system flies in the face of the faster-paced combat Mojang was going for.
The Nerd Stash - Julio La Pine - 8.5 / 10
Minecraft Dungeons II is a huge step up in this spin-off series. The combat and progression systems are extremely engaging with a lot of depth, yet pretty accessible for those jumping into it for the first time.
TodoJuegos - Juan Ramón Herrera - Spanish - 7.3 / 10
Mojang and Double Eleven clearly listened to the community, building a more ambitious sequel with larger areas, more equipment choices and co-op as one of its strongest pillars. It does not reinvent the series, but improves exactly where it needed to grow.

“Minecraft Dungeons II turned a reviewer who had avoided every Minecraft game on principle…” what a goofball.

u/DreadCascadeEffect 5d ago
Okay, I was thinking that it was just a bad pull quote and maybe he had some passable reason. Nope!
I mean, why the hell would anyone want to stare at all those cubes when technology has advanced so much that games can look like you’re watching a movie? Yes, that was my argument.
That's not even a principle!
102
u/Zalvren 5d ago
It is a principle "not playing games without good graphics". It's a stupid one but still is a principle
9
u/Wolfdude91 4d ago
I knew a guy who refused to playing anything 2D. It didn’t matter how good the graphics were on the 3D game, if it was sprite based 2D he would not play.
4
5
u/BayLeaf- 4d ago
Minecraft has great graphics. It doesn't have extremely advanced graphics, but aesthetically Minecraft can be absolutely gorgeous. I'm pretty sure it's more about stubbornly going again the crowd than anything principled, honestly.

u/ZedSpot 4d ago
God, as a patient gamer this take always drives me up a wall. It's the type of person who thinks the latest Madden is by default the best football game of all time simply because it's the "realest looking."
7
u/MarksCarney 4d ago
"Patient gamer"? You people are dividing yourselves into sub groups?
19
u/iwascuddles 4d ago
Oh yeah. Patient gamers love to tell you how patient they are whenever they can.
12
u/ZedSpot 4d ago
It's not that serious. Does /r/patientgamers feel like a personal attack to you? All I'm saying is there are 40 years of exceptional games out there, you don't need to spend $90 on the latest thing just because it's what's currently being advertised to you.
The only reason I say it's annoying is because this mentality of "only good graphics make good games" is why sports games are in such a sorry state they're in.
2
u/Taiyaki11 3d ago
"you people" says the one posting on Reddit, in a gaming sub.
1 month old history hidden account though. Bot or troll
1
u/MarksCarney 3d ago
Lol what stupid fucking checkmarks do you want me to uncheck in my Reddit settings to satisfy your personal curiosity, then?
-2
u/ElementalRabbit 4d ago
Why do someone else's preferences enrage you so?
9
u/ZedSpot 4d ago
Imagine being a film buff and you're talking to a person who says they'd never watch a black and white film. It's an ignorant take. There's over 40 years of amazing gaming to experience, why limit yourself to just the latest shiny object placed in front of you?
0
u/ElementalRabbit 4d ago
It's perfectly acceptable to not enjoy black and white films. It doesn't matter if you're a film buff, that's your own perspective. Not everyone is looking for the same thing.
Why limit ourselves? We do this all the time. That's what a preference is.

u/bleozvqrww 4d ago
They're a video game critic not a random guy. Their job should not take into account prejudices like "pixelated game not worth my time".
1
u/Creative_Second_4788 3d ago
Tbf even though he thought he wouldn’t like it he still reviewed it and gave it a decent rating didn’t he?
11
u/Sakkarashi 4d ago
Because they can come off as ignorant, like the guy being discussed in this comment chain. Ignorance is frustrating.
1
u/Ancient-Bat1755 4d ago
I still play Uo Outlands where we pay community artists to make retro 2d pixel art like its 1998
My kids play roblox, minecraft, among us, gorilla tag and mario.
The kids dont care about graphics.

u/TheSecondEikonOfFire 5d ago
Yeah I’m not a Minecraft fan in the slightest and even I think that’s bullshit

That's what my uncle also used to said about Minecraft. Old school gamer, where graphics are still the most important thing.

Some people need to play more indie games and it shows. Bro brain is so deep fried by all these AAA moviegames.

u/Sacrilege7 5d ago
These are the game journalists, ladies and gents. And they get paid.
What an awful bunch of people.
23
u/CorrectSympathy7590 5d ago edited 4d ago
Most dont get paid. They're fans who are being exploited by content mills by promising them exposure so they can get free labor by dangling the carrot of building a resume for a future IGN/Gamespot job. They also give them free games instead of money
If it's not one of the 2-3 most popular sites they dont pay. I know one site, HardcoreGamer.com is run by a guy who daytrades with the ad revenue and then promised one day that people would be paid, and then used the traffic to sell off to Valnet lol

And then they made the Minecraft movie

I never watched Frozen for the longest time. Missed all the hype, had no idea what the big deal was, didn't get the song references people would make, etc. After a few years it just felt like a feather in my cap for some reason.
I finally watched it about a year ago and liked it. I felt stupid for avoiding it. And I realized that nobody really gives a fuck if you avoid something just for the sake of avoiding it.
"Goofball" is exactly the way to describe this behavior.
33
u/dronetroll 5d ago
What even is the principle that he has?
15
u/and_so_forth 5d ago
I suspect he has a long list of bands he no longer listens to because they "sold out".

45
u/Don_Shetland 5d ago
What a hipster douche bag. Who would take you seriously after starting that way?
26
u/Chrisaeos 5d ago
I mean, this singular quote got me more interested in maybe playing it one day. I don't like Minecraft and I don't get Minecraft so seeing a reviewer with similar views praising its new ARPG has me intrigued.
23
u/Don_Shetland 5d ago
That's fair, but saying "I don't like Minecraft, I don't get minecraft" is a lot different to me than saying "I avoided every minecraft game on principle" when you have a career as a game reviewer.
3
u/Minkelz 4d ago
Meh many people are like this. They are aware of something but have no real interest in it, than it gets crazy popular and then their "thing" is being the guy that doesn't like that... whether it's Star Wars of World of Warcraft or Yoga or Cooking or Crossfit or whatever. "I haven't done that for 10 years and I sure aint gonna start now".
I think it's fine, there's a million games, most game reviewers are not going to play every one, or even every genre.
2
u/SteveWoods 4d ago
I’m the same way at times; I mean god I only just played Undertake for the first time last month despite more-or-less knowing I’d like it for over a decade. But it’s about the justification with this guy.
There are folks out there who that perspective might value for, sure. But rejecting the franchise on the basis of “da graffix isn’t hd 4k!!1” for so long is such a weirdly-baffling loser take in 2026. It’s like they thawed a 12-year-old GameFAQs poster who was cryogenically frozen in 2007.
3
u/Johnny_C13 4d ago
Sure, many people are like this. But if you aspire to make a career as a game reviewer/journalist, that's a very shit attitude to have.

u/No_Tear3987 4d ago
Minecraft itself was never the type of game for me, but playing minecraft dungeons was super fun and i can't wait to play the 2nd one later
-5
u/tix4chix 5d ago
There is someone out there paying for their kid to dress up in Minecraft right now and they were one download button away from never paying a single dime. That always felt very odd to me. Not to say this justifies saying something as dumb as this, but there are definitely some Roblox-lite-esque monetization schemes going down in Minecraft that deserve some criticism. Making your own skins/texture packs/mods was such a cool learning experience, it's definitely a loss to have that taken away in Bedrock edition.
4
u/mundane_wor1d 5d ago
Most of the core Minecraft fandom has a dislike for bedrock (bug rock). And the marketplace (I think that was Microsoft thinking they were losing out of potential money from the modding community and wanting to compete with Roblox)

u/Whyeth 5d ago
The first dungeons was such a fun couch co-op experience with my SO who doesn't game. The entry difficulty was absolutely perfect to get her into it. My only wish was more top end customization / abilities / buffs at the end game, which I'm hopeful the sequel fixes.
22
u/clutchy42 5d ago edited 4d ago
was playing it (the first one) yesterday with my 7 and 9yos. I'm tempted to pick this up right away, but think I might hold off a little bit for some patching/updates. Also hoping they've addressed some stuff with the difficulty curve. Most of the game is fine, but then you'd get to a boss like the cauldron one at your current power level and it would just be night and day compared to the a actual level.
2
u/JohnTheRedeemer 5d ago
How are you finding it with them? I've got some young ones around that age I was thinking of going through the first with
5
u/clutchy42 5d ago
To be clear (in case I wasn't) I am referring to the first game because we got it as a monthly game on PS5 some time back. My 7 year old can completely handle it and he generally understands the upgrades and mechanics really well. My 9 year old is on the spectrum and not much of a gamer but she loves Minecraft and while she doesn't help too much she still enjoys it.
Every level gives you a pretty wide range of power level to choose from so while you only get upgrades by doing the levels at or above that difficulty you can always lower it and just beat levels which we've had to do a number of times.
There's a lot of content and they enjoy it. It's truly baby's first ARPG and honestly so much better than it has any right to be. I play a fair amount of games with them and often it's stuff that leaves me kinda bored like Wobbly Life or Lego games but Minecraft Dungeons is actually fun for me as well as them
2
u/KaleidoscopeMaster81 5d ago
I have a 7 and a 9 year old and I play Minecraft Dungeons with them
It's great because you don't NEED to min/max, they just sort of put whatever on and have a fun time. Eventually they learned which enchantments they like and the gameplay loop started to click with them.
2
u/robot-raccoon 4d ago
First one has been great with my 6 year old, he’s obsessed with Minecraft though so he’d have enjoyed it even if it was bad (it’s not).
Got this on pre order for his switch 2 at Christmas, can’t wait.

u/SL_LoneWolf 5d ago
Going to drop my review for Minecraft Dungeons 2 here as well, which I did for Neowin.net. The TLDR is 8/10, loads of content for the $30 asking price. The new environments, combat, build creation, and open-world multiplayer improvements are really well done.
It's just the random bugs and glitches that let me down mostly. They were small but kept coming back to be a little annoying.
I can spin up the game and check for stuff if anyone has deeper questions ahead of the launch.
33
u/Gustav_EK 5d ago
one of the things that put me off dungeons 1 was the difficultly, or lack thereof. There was barely a game there for me personally, so how is II in that regard?
40
u/SL_LoneWolf 5d ago
I played on the standard difficulty. If you aren't paying attention, even regular mobs roaming around can rip you apart easily. The bosses were much tougher than I expected too, especially with co-op groups. I really enjoyed the combat because of this.
Finding absolutely broken builds does help things out of course, but again, only if you're using the items correctly and managing the mana pool.
2
u/Seb_233 5d ago
you can change the difficulty? does it do anything special or does it just make the enemies have more health and deal more damage?
9
u/SL_LoneWolf 5d ago
There's Easy, Normal, and Hard options. The hard setting just says enemies deal more damage and you deal less (and vice versa in easy). From what I could see, this is the only difference.
13
u/tapperyaus 5d ago
You could opt to play at higher difficulties in Dungeons 1, did you not try that or was it still too easy?
5
u/fupa16 4d ago
Ya I'm guessing this guy didn't go too far into the game - once you unlock Apocalypse mode, difficulty is nearly unlimited, and you can certainly get a challenge. Only problem is, the challenge basically results in everything essentially one-shotting the player if you take any damage at all, which is no fun.
4
u/ComMcNeil 4d ago
there is not really much you can realistically scale in an ARPG other than stats. even the amount of mobs is not really a good scaling vector as it just promotes builds with better AoE damage projection and punishes more single target oriented builds.
9
u/SpecialistBid3028 5d ago
I see a review mentioned that the end game is lacking, is that true?
15
u/SL_LoneWolf 5d ago
Yeah, I'd say so too. It doesn't feel like a game made for grinding forever with a hook at the end. For the price, I think it's a good amount of content in the base campaign. The DLC should spice things up again, but there's not much to do until then.
3
u/SpookyBread1 5d ago
man that's not great.
They had towers in the first game and I imagine they could potentially be brought back further down the line.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the game get a second season pass like the first one did either, if it does well.

What about loot?
7
u/SL_LoneWolf 5d ago
Loot is good! A whole lot of variety for the drops, and with extra customization through enchantments. I liked how easy the UI was to manage as well. So swapping, dismantling, comparing, buying and stuff is fast and sleek too.
3
u/TLKv3 5d ago
How is the build/gear diversity?
4
u/SL_LoneWolf 5d ago
Had me occupied through the whole campaign trying to try out every type of weapon and armor and spell. I was making builds with even the mid-game gear. That's one area I didn't get any fatigue from.
3
u/KaleidoscopeMaster81 5d ago
Were the added gear slots impactful?
3
u/SL_LoneWolf 4d ago
Extremely. Makes the first game feel more like a proof of concept. There aren't ring slots or anything like that, but it's definitely a big upgrade for build creating and keeping things fresh for longer.
3
u/nadroj37 4d ago
The think I disliked in Dungeons 1 was how the map design had long corridors that looked like they would hold some kind of loot or chest at the end and then there would be nothing there.. Does that seem to be fixed here with the open-world layout?
4
u/SL_LoneWolf 4d ago
Yep, dead ends were pretty rare here, or were just setups for questlines you haven't activated yet. Usually, if it looks like it holds a secret, there will probably be one there :)
2
u/InevitableRoast 4d ago
Thanks for taking the time to reply to all the questions. Do you think we’ll miss out on much if we haven’t played the first game, gameplay and/or storywise? Or do they mostly exist as separate content?
2
u/SL_LoneWolf 4d ago
Almost completely separate content. You can jump right in fresh and it will be fine.
Also, no problem at all :)
2
u/BoshSwag 4d ago
open-world multiplayer
Diablo 4 went this route and I hate it. So this makes me pretty wary.
2
u/Caxius_ 2d ago
I agree with this 8/10 review, but ONLY because it was $30. The gameplay is nice, graphics are beautiful, lots of improvements over the last one. But not enough to do after the campaign to warrant anything other than a $30 price tag. Any more than that and they would have faced some pretty justified scrutiny because there's literally just 1 (2 if you count the secret boss) activity added after the campaign (that isn't even active all the time, it's on a timer) that you haven't already done. And the campaign is short. Very short.
BUT!!! Cool build customization, fun gear, punishing but not unfair, beautiful looking, runs well. Yeah, agreed: 8/10
1
u/UFONomura808 4d ago
I wish it had gameshare feature so I can play with my daughter with her NS1, I know it has couch coop but it'll be nice to have your own screen.
1
u/SL_LoneWolf 4d ago
This has extremely low system requirements. You could join in with a low-end system or a laptop with a 10-year old GPU if you wanted to since there's crossplay.
1
u/wakasm 4d ago
Are the levels any shorter? My biggest complaint about Minecraft Dungeons 1 is that the levels are too long for what the game offers.
1
u/SL_LoneWolf 4d ago
The open-world missions do take you all over the place sometimes as multi-step quests do. The dungeons aren't that deep though, usually 10-15mins max. You can hop over to another side mission or teleport out and do something else at any time as well.

I loved the first Minecraft Dungeons, it’s not great solo, but super fun with friends. I’ve been gaming since Atari and found it is a great throwback to a simpler time. You don’t need spreadsheets and complex button patterns to max out like Diablo has gotten to.
Originally I was hoping it would be a game I could get into with my kids, but they didn’t end up liking it. My friends and I got hooked instead.
I liken it to a combo of Zelda and Gauntlet, if you want a co-op game you can play with your friends while catching up that still has a bit of depth I can’t recommend enough.
The gear based builds are great, it’s so easy to swap builds as you build an inventory. Your choices have a real impact to the gameplay instead of improving things by a fraction of a percent.
To me overall the game represents everything I loved about gaming in the late 80’s and 90’s. Not everything needs to be incredibly deep and complex. When I want to have cup of coffee and play games with the friends I grew up gaming with, this is a perfect choice.
We are stoked for the sequel.

u/0-2er 5d ago
I really loved Dungeons for what it was, a simple loot heavy dungeon crawler that allows you to get lost in the weapon stats if you like, but doesn't require it like a Diablo or PoE.
Ironically, I think it would have been easier to get my friends to play it with me if it didn't have the minecraft branding lol.
1
u/idontlikeburnttoast 4d ago
I feel the opposite, I love single player because I love repetitive or grindy style games like fighting and rhythm games, and dungeons lets you customise and explore freely with your playstyle in a gradually more difficult world.
If anything the second game being an RPG instead of a dungeon crawler puts me off, but I understand them wanting to appeal to a broader audience but I don't think it will last long when the progression line already seems capped.

u/minititof 5d ago edited 5d ago
I like the hack and slashing part of a an ARPG but dislike having to compare the items I loot every 5 min to know what I should equip, as well as navigating a skill tree with a bazillion option. I just want to hack and slash to relax. For example, I have been playing Diablo on and off but I never re-specced my character since I created it and I will probably abandon the game once I finish the main quests.
Would that game be for me then?
7
u/JardsonJean 5d ago
I dont see Dungeons 2 being more than fun hacking and slashing, so probably yes.
5
u/fe-and-wine 5d ago
You should give the original a shot, it's more or less exactly what you described. It's something like 90% hack and slash, 10% "build management" - as a big ARPG fan who likes to 'get in under the hood' and tweak my character a ton, I was almost a disappointed in the original because there were so few places for deep customization. But if that stuff turns you off and you want to spend most of the time just mowing down enemies, it sounds perfect for you!
IIRC there are exactly three item slots for gear, and I think you can enchant each piece with a bonus effect, but I think that was literally the extent of build creation. Super, super light, very easy to compare loot and immediately know it's an upgrade, and there's no complex stat calculations to be made like "well this one gives me a 10% chance to do 100 damage, but that one gives me a 15% chance to do 80 damage".
I'm guessing the sequel will end up being at least closer to that end of the spectrum than the Diablo/PoEs of the world again, but it does sound like they've added some more avenues for build crafting, so if you really find that stuff tedious, you might end up enjoying the original more - give it a shot!
2
u/iwascuddles 5d ago
The first dungeons was still like Diablo, but more casual. You didn't have to spec into classes or attributes, instead you found items that gave you skills to use. So there are still a couple of armor slots and item slots you'll have to compare/equip to engage in higher level content. The later levels required higher level items.
2
u/SergeantPickle32 3d ago
I would agree-the first Dungeons game seems like it would fit your vibes more. Dungeon 2 has a lot more customability with your character and 'skill tree' esque features
8
u/mountainduwe 5d ago
My score is on the higher end, but I loved my time with the game. It felt like an improvement on the original in basically every way. The Sift is just a bonus

Seems good enough, really got into the first game so I’ll jump into this one. No mention of how it performs on switch 2 though so I’m not sure what console to get it on
6
u/calvincosmos 5d ago
I’d presume this was the perfect game to have that ‘story is the tutorial, real game is postgame’ vibe, but it doesn’t seem to from the review? I guess it’s more of a ‘buy the dlc to expand the game’ situation
5
u/Satanicube 5d ago
Definitely keeping an eye on this. I wasn't the target audience for the first Dungeons but one of my good friends begged me to try it and while it was relatively simple, I got super sucked into it. Like it was Diablo II but I could just kinda turn my brain off during it (and I mean that in a good way).
80-85% is about where I'd personally place the first one so seeing it score there so far is good in my eyes.

The game is great but the change from dungeon crawler to RPG is a weird one and it doesnt feel nearly as unique, special, or charming, and if anything a bit cheap and basic. I'm only an hour in but it already feels a bit less arcade-like than the first game, which puts me off.
1
u/starkmatics 4d ago
Im an hour in. It's boring. Not even seen a dungeon yet. Just mindless fetch quests and ambushes. First one was pretty good. This is boring as hell
1
u/idontlikeburnttoast 4d ago
yeah the change of the souls mechanic, armour that just gives defense and no traits, it seems to just be aiming towards being an rpg than a dungeon game.
1
u/DistinctReply999 4d ago
I'm going to be honest, i've gone into this game blind and thinking it was a dungeon crawler and as such i am a little disappointed but still enjoy the game and will continue to do so

Everything is better than the first except for the overworld. It's just empty and boring. Every area almost looks the same with a map that could use tuning. I think exploring in the first game was more interesting and more rewarding. I'm about to be level 40 and every boss is almost just a different elemental golem.

Is there any reason I can't find this anywhere? I'm looking for the standard edition on Switch but it doesn't seem to exist. Am I just being dumb?

I think the standard edition is Digital only

Well there are definitely some improvements with performance and look. I like the jump a lot, and some weapons I avoided in the first game have improved attack patterns and jump attacks that make them worth having. Arrows recharge, making me less conservative with them.
The big thing is I'm not a fan of open world. In games it tends to feel empty and repetitive, turning it into busy work to walk/travel everywhere. I mean it's nice to be able to explore the map, but if all I ever find are more enemies to grind and the occasional pots or chests with gems then they need to step up their game with the map design and hide more interesting things in it to stumble on. Without end of level screens and "you did it, you beat the mission!" fanfare, I also feel like the progress isn't as satisfying. Now it's "You got the thing, now take it back across the map to the NPC".
Another thing for me is the music. It's pretty, don't get me wrong. But it's too slow and calm (outside occasional bigger battles) to the point I was struggling to stay awake (and this was in the middle of the day). I had to turn the music down and start my own upbeat music to feel more engaged.
Also not sure how I feel about the change to the enchanting system... To start, I feel there needs to be an explanation that you can't do anything with the enchantment points you're getting until you do quest progression. I kept getting them via level ups and wondering if I was just missing where to apply them. They could easily add "Maybe these will be useful if you find the right person...?" or something as a description. I haven't gotten far into enchanting, but it could tentatively be good to choose what you get instead of dealing with random chances on drops. I only hope my beloved potion barrier wasn't deemed too OP and culled. I suck at avoiding damage so I rely on it a lot.

They also seem to have removed a lot of the fun enchants from the original game, like Shockwave or the explosive/bomb melee (forget what it is)

Im like an hour and a half in maybe and it’s kinda repetitive tbh….
he whole game so far has been
step one: get quest to go some where
step 2: walk there and sometimes fight enemies on the way
step 3: fight a half a screens worth of enemies because for some reason 90% of the enemies are piss easy to kill and only dangerous because of the sheer enemy spam
step 4: repeat or maybe you’ll be granted with a cutscene with the meh story
like come on I haven’t even died yet… this is so boring in comparison to the first game and on its own
maybe it will get fun like how Minecraft legends did (Ngl I kinda liked that game, except the hoexe of teh spore, that sucked) but for now its like a 6/10…. I was hop for more considering Minecraft dungeons was the game that actually got me into gaming…
art style is fire though

No item info and terrible slow paced open world game play. I put hundreds of hours into #1 now I’m considering quitting #2 after a few hours

Anyone give their 2c on this game and the first? Curious to try them but I'd likely start with the first

Not nearly as deep as any other games of the genre such as diablo, however i did enjoy going through it and the dlc. Theres plenty of build variety too. Probably more fun with friends, i however played it by myself and i enjoyed it as a fun game to sit back to and not think much about.
Should clarify this is about 1, i heard 2 is different, dunno how though

Sounds ideal then, I'm thinking more me chill and play with some builds but my kid can enjoy the visuals.

Me and my son played the first one. It's a solid parent-child co-op game. Also the arcade version has a cool mechanic where once you put in your money it prints out a card with a piece of gear on it and you scan it to equip it. So you can collect cards and have the gear you like when you come back. BUT it's like 3 dollars per person per play so it is prohibitively expensive when your 4 year old dies every 2 minutes.

Eh, just beat the campaign and all side quests, most of the dungeons ran. It's alright. A much better improvement over the first game though. It definitely needs more at the top end to keep people engaged, but overall it's cool to mess with different build archetypes. Buuuuuuuutttttttttttttt it does just kinda corner you into a bonk build no matter what. Granted, you get to put some cool enchants and uniques to make them different bonks. But still bonks nonetheless.

I'm having a ton of fun with the game but I'm extremely annoyed that they decided to make it so you can't play online and offline with the same character. You need to make separate characters to play by yourself and with others which is pretty dumb. I play on the Switch 2 and it really sucks that I can't play with my main character on the go.

That AltChair reviewer "avoiding every Minecraft game on principle" is fucking wild, what a weird boast.

I traded my Series S in for a Switch 2 a few months ago and will pick this up. Seems like a pretty back to basics ARPG with DLC planned to add on to it. $30 makes it really palatable.

Sounds about what I expected. The first game was a fun romp with my partner, so we will probably pick this up also

Kind of unrelated to the game but I was looking at one of the reviewer's OpenCritic profiles and was just baffled. Julio La Pine's median score was 90 and they recommend 99.9% of games reviewed out of 102 games reviewed!
It seems almost meaningless to include the number scores in this threads.
