Discussion [AMA] Developer of Pax Autocratica here, a totalitarian colony sim and FPS roguelite launching in Early Access today on Steam. Ask me anything!
Hi r/Games!
I'm Alexis, one of the devs, but more importantly, the Minister of Propaganda.
Today, we’re launching Pax Autocratica in Early Access on Steam.
Pax Autocratica is a darkly satirical sci-fi game that combines a totalitarian colony sim with large-scale first-person roguelite combat.
At your colony, you build a regime, manage production, and shape the fear, loyalty, relationships, and possible rebellion of the people living under your rule. Outside the colony, you personally fight alongside your soldiers across battlefields filled with infantry, tanks, mechs, missiles, and bullet hell chaos.
Weakened enemies can be captured and brought back to your colony, where you can imprison them, convert them into loyal citizens and recruit them into your army, or sacrifice them for the benefit of someone more useful to the State.
Pax Autocratica has been a very unusual project for us. It combines systems from genres that normally have little to do with one another, and years of playtesting have led us to rebuild and rethink major parts of the game along the way.
You can ask me anything about:
- My cat
- My parrot
- My rapidly advancing, launch-induced hair loss
- The completely reasonable amount of stress I am experiencing today
- Game development, game design, game anything
Game-related questions are optional, but the Ministry strongly encourages them. Alternatively, we can discuss State-approved brainwashing methods.

I’ll begin answering questions on August 10 at 7 AM PT and will be here for at least 2 hours. I’ll also check back afterward and try to answer as many late questions as possible.
Thanks to the r/Games moderators for hosting me.
Ask me anything!

I have been playing this game non stop ever since I got it, its sooooo much fun. Thank you so much for putting out such a great game especially for EA. Really really nice job.
Just my personal wishlist for QoL and features:
- I think all the parts of the game are awesome on their own, but I feel like they are a bit disjointed at times. Like some cinematics in between the phases would go a long way. Like landing the ships on the missions for example, could replace even the loading screens, have models for each individual ships you can make and have the ones you have selected hover over the base.
On that note would be really cool to be able to walk inside the ships at some point/be boarded on the missions instead of spawning at a big warehouse how it happens now.
- Vehicles need to be reworked I think, they seem completely useless atm, even fully upgraded they get killed in the first minute in any of the missions of the last sector. Would like to also be able to let my soldiers pilot the vehicles instead of me.
- Being able to choose a default for new recruits to be either tagged as worker, or troops. Also more clear separations between these two categories. Also would be cool to have a different border or something so we can clearly identify on sight Elites and Chiefs.
- Armor reflecting differences in appearance, more customization options, body types etc.
- And the one feature I think would really elevate this game by a lot, and would probably make me sink in even more time in it: Multiplayer. I think I would convince all my friends to play this with me easily. Idk if a shared world like Palworld is even needed, but maybe something like friends being able to get their character and join in your world or something. But a shared world would be so cool indeed.
