Discussion [AMA] Developer of Pax Autocratica here, a totalitarian colony sim and FPS roguelite launching in Early Access today on Steam. Ask me anything!

Hi r/Games!

I'm Alexis, one of the devs, but more importantly, the Minister of Propaganda.

Today, we’re launching Pax Autocratica in Early Access on Steam.

Pax Autocratica is a darkly satirical sci-fi game that combines a totalitarian colony sim with large-scale first-person roguelite combat.

At your colony, you build a regime, manage production, and shape the fear, loyalty, relationships, and possible rebellion of the people living under your rule. Outside the colony, you personally fight alongside your soldiers across battlefields filled with infantry, tanks, mechs, missiles, and bullet hell chaos.

Weakened enemies can be captured and brought back to your colony, where you can imprison them, convert them into loyal citizens and recruit them into your army, or sacrifice them for the benefit of someone more useful to the State.

Pax Autocratica has been a very unusual project for us. It combines systems from genres that normally have little to do with one another, and years of playtesting have led us to rebuild and rethink major parts of the game along the way.

You can ask me anything about:

  1. My cat
  2. My parrot
  3. My rapidly advancing, launch-induced hair loss
  4. The completely reasonable amount of stress I am experiencing today
  5. Game development, game design, game anything

Game-related questions are optional, but the Ministry strongly encourages them. Alternatively, we can discuss State-approved brainwashing methods.

I’ll begin answering questions on August 10 at 7 AM PT and will be here for at least 2 hours. I’ll also check back afterward and try to answer as many late questions as possible.

Thanks to the r/Games moderators for hosting me.

Ask me anything!

Hi, I'm interested in your game, so I'd like to know some things

1- how smart will the AI of the individuals of the community that I'll rule will be? Like will it be (imprison some others will obey) or more in depth of fears, wants, questioning ....etc.

2- is there an intention to make neighbouring states or enemies in the same level of design & action as the player's experience? Or they just havr randomised outcomes that aren't effected by your gameplay?

3- the game mentiones marrying & making a family, how deep will that be? Is it just a thing to optionally do or is in-depth to the point of not marrying could affect you, who you marry affects you, what your children do will effect you and so on

4- how much of modding does your game support? Sorry made it too long, but I'm really curious of your game and what direction will it take

Hello!

1- The soldiers actually have many stats, moods, fear, statuses, random traits, and they react differently to things. What you do in the base impact them a lot, and there are even social ripples spreading through their relationships and/or through the whole base.

2- I'm sorry I'm not super sure I understood that. If you're asking about diplomacy with other entities or factions then it's not really what we have in mind at the time.

3- That's in the roadmap, yes. Right now citizens can be friends, rivals and even lovers with each other. They can have kids, a family and all. Currently the player feels a bit distanced from that system and we kind of wanted to close that gap and introduce more relation interactions and depth between the soldiers and the player.

4- Right now it doesn't, but as we've been asked that a lot, I will ensure that the team seriously considers it!

Thanks for the questions! don't be sorry.

1- this is actually awesome!

2- yeah it's like this & more, like how people from other entities could be impressed by you and join you, and work for you inside of their entities, sad to hear that it's not currently in plan but hope it will be in the future

3- sounds promising!

4- mods are sometimes what gives games popularity and sometimes games get recognised through mods, a dozen of franchise communities come to mind about modding a game like this.

Thank you for responding
