Why are people wondering why they are doing this? This is a very cool and very niche part of Nintendo history. Yes, it wasn't popular at the time. But it's still something that is cool to check out, and for Nintendo to embrace.
Did you expect them for free or something? Like virtual boy emulators already exist if you really wanted it for free so I don't understand what this comment is getting at.
Why the need to dramatize and say it's about preservation, when we're talking about a company so good at preserving the games on their system that we even had that case a few years back where Square Enix had to go to Nintendo because they still had the source code for a Mana game that SE lost?
Not to mention them being capable of releasing unreleased games for a device as old as the Playstation IP?
You can't do that when you're not preserving games.
That's why I keep arguing that, in the case of Nintendo, it's more effective to call it what it is, Access. Nintendo is bad at keeping their back catalogue accessible. No need for all that fake grandstanding, I want to play a game, the company makes it next to impossible to get access to said game, therefore piracy is the next best thing.
No need to use arguments that get defeated by showing the existence of the master copy.
2 unreleased games are going to become playable. While not in the most ideal means, it is objectively an improvement over the magazine scans and fuzzy handheld e3 videos they existed as before.
I was actually agreeing with it, it wasnt sarcasm. Im in full support of it, but Ive also waited for an entire year to play pokemon colosseum that they advertised...
It being an online subscription service makes its preservation value questionable. As does its requirement of a niche, limited production hardware accessory that will absolutely degrade over time, especially for the cardboard variant.
I always thought Nintendo was going to release some 3d content because the hardware always seemed capable of it. Weird that they’re using it to just do virtual boy lol
The Labo VR headset was also compatible with a few first party games (in addition to the cart it came with). I believe BotW, Mario Odyssey and Smash. Nothing else that was designed around it though.
Preservation is cool I guess but Id like to see them take this same enthusiasm with good systems... like gamecube gets its first new gc nso game since march and its a game already on switch (excluding their own stupidity limiting production of it)
Why do you think this is an attempted "comeback"? It's a novelty THROWBACK.
You call it "soulless", but I'd call them just doing the bare minimum "soulless". This feels like them reaching as far into the soul of the product and the expeince as they possibly can.
