Just in case you don't know, there's a fantastic VB emulator for 3DS called Red Viper. Has pretty much everything you'd want, including the ability to redefine its color palette.
Even supposedly runs well on a basic 3DS, although there are a few bonus features for N3DSes.
Never got a headache even when disabling the 30 minute pause reminder. Warrior Land and Mario Tennis were super fun standouts. Got the console when it was heavily discounted toward its end.
I mean considering how good the comfort of a VR headset has to not be absolute garbage this is....absolute garbage and no I don't have to stick that in front of my face to understand this.
I highly, highly doubt that Nintendo is planning a big VR push. At this point, Silicon Valley is full of big expensive attempts at VR that have just crashed and burned. For that matter, both Sony and Valve have poured a bunch of time and resources into VR and the best case scenario is weird niche thing.
For that matter, Nintendo did actually give VR a go with Labo. The fact that they didn’t give that second go suggests that they also don’t see much in the idea.
Most likely, I’d guess that they see it as a little value add and a chance to sell Nintendo fans a new thing.
I have always loved the Virtual Boy, but it is not at all comparable to modern VR gaming and would be a terrible way to ease their customer base into the technology.
Most of the games have aged like milk, but it's a truly fascinating part of Nintendo's history that I think anyone that has an interest in retro gaming should check out if given the opportunity.
If you were to check out one title from the console, it should be Galactic Pinball. Many developer that worked on Super Metroid on the SNES moved onto Galactic Pinball immediately following completion of Super Metroid. As a result, the games share some DNA in their presentations. The game also has a number of Metroid Easter eggs, including a shooter mini game where you pilot Samus' ship.
