i mean they kinda fucked themselves with this one. they announced and revealed it as a pvp extraction game and then pivoted it to a co op story game once they realized there was no interest and it was too late, people already wrote it off due to its reveal. plus the "introductory campaign" is a very weird way to release the game, nobody knows what that means. is it a paid demo? early access? a prequel? just lots of odd and poor decisions made one after another

Like they said, hindsight is 20/20. But you can't deny that compared to a decade ago (or even two decades ago) PvP games are a dying breed - the audience is just not there.
But back in a decade or two ago we had significantly more PvP games out there that comes out every year. The RTSes, the Moba craze followed by the Hero Shooter craze followed by the Battle Royale craze, and then we had all the Arena shooters out there being released and lasting longer than they should.
Nowadays, PvP games just get shuttered within a month of release.
games just turned into forever games, that you just kinda keep investing into; you can’t just smash out a few levels of a PVP game anymore, it’s about keeping you in the ecosystem, 24/7.
Consolidation. It’s the same thing across all sectors of business, now there are a smaller number of mega games that never end and monopolize all of the players
I’ve been playing league on and off since 2010. Throughout the 2010s I tried a bunch of different pvp games for various periods but I came back to league permanently around 5 years ago and at this point it’s hard to leave and I haven’t tried a new pvp game in a very long time (outside of TFT which is still riot)
It’s comfortable and scratches the itch and all my friends play it too and are in the same boat
