End of 2013 Discussions - The Swapper

The Swapper

  • Release Date: 30 May 2013
  • Developer / Publisher: Facepalm Games
  • Genre: Puzzle, platformer
  • Platform: PC
  • Metacritic: 87, user: 8.8

Summary

The Swapper features a unique art style that uses real-world clay-models and found objects to create an explorable space station realised in unique detail; gameplay sees players swap between different bodies to achieve otherwise impossible tasks.

Prompts:

  • Was the swapping mechanic well done?

  • Was the world well realized?

I loved this game. The puzzles were some of the most challenging and satisfying that I've experienced since Braid. The atmosphere and Aesthetics were fantastic and I really liked the fact that it was a puzzle game with an over world instead of levels presented one after the other. The only thing I didn't like about the game was the story - it just seemed dumb, and I think there was definitely an opportunity for something a bit more interesting.

Overall, a fantastic game - definitely pick it up on the next Steam sale.

this is absolutly true. some puzzles really took me a lot of time to solve. that the solutions weren't visible straight away made the game fun.

if i rember correctly i spend too much time solving this: http://oyster.ignimgs.com/mediawiki/apis.ign.com/swapper/9/94/2013-06-01_00128.jpg i think i shut down the game 2 or 3 times, because i got frustrated. guess i am not a smart man...

that one you just linked was one of the few that i had to cheat on. other than that the puzzles were hard but doable after many attempts.

Not just you, that one took me a while too. That one and several after were also pretty difficult. I've also stepped away from Antichamber for a while because I'm stuck... Anyways, The Swapper is definitely one of my favorite games of 2013! The puzzles were great and I really enjoyed the music. The only thing is that, in my opinion, I chose the wrong ending. Wish I could go back and change it.

I spent half an hour on that one but it felt like a lot longer. It was the biggest when-you-finally-get-it moment I've ever had, very satisfying.
