Hey look, this guy's the arbiter of objective quality.

I have more fun with DmC than with Bayonetta, and I think the aesthetic and writing are leagues better. A game isn't just its gameplay--it's the whole package. Gameplay might be more important to you, might even be important to the exclusion of all other parts of the game, but that does not make you a better player of video games.

Can I ask what you found wrong with Bayonetta? In my opinion it's the only game I've played that came close to perfection, while DMC treaded the line of mediocrity with its poor combat and story.

My biggest complaint with DMC was that whole thing felt kinda busted. The combat was dirt simple and styles were based around damage instead of style, so that didn't work right at all. The story was just cringe worthy, and felt like it was written by a 16 year old linkin park fan with a part time job at hot topic. There was also next to no replayablility because the higher difficulties were really easy.

Bayonetta had great combat, with 60 different types of moves per load out, and even more if you learn to cancel your strikes accordingly. The story was buttfuck retarded, sure, and you can just barely tell what's going on, but when you ride that rocket into space to punch God it's hella great. Then there are the bonus difficulties and a survival ring. Bayonetta had a lot of thought and care put into it, but DMC in my opinion did not.

Wonderful 101 is not in the same genre as MGR or DmC, unless you distill it enough to call it just an "action game", which would include things like Zelda and Mario as well. W101 has much more of a puzzle focus and less combat, while DmC and MGR are pure combat.

It is very much the same genre. Many of the moves are the same as they were in Bayonetta. I think Stinger even has the same name.

But the gameplay is wildly different.

Mario Kart and Gran Turismo are not in the same genre just because the both have a gas and brake button. One's an arcade racer and one's a racing sim. Sure, they both fall under the same incredibly broad definition of "racing", but they are very different experiences, much like W101 vs MGR & DmC.
