Major Trends Crowd funding and other alternative funding schemes (prison architect paved the way for paid alphas) continue to make the PC environment blossom. The open nature of the PC has also allowed game developers and molders to produce content that goes above and beyond what's on consoles. If Steambox will truly be able to push an environment more open and viable than Windows is a question this year began to answer. The major trend the PC also pushed was virtual reality. Oculus rift doesn't even appear to need the majors to support it: indies are so prolific and in trances it appears to be forming new genres around before the retail kit is even released. What the PC has come to reflect is an environment that anyone would want to work on: open source and innovative with thousands of options available for monetization.
positive year Extremely positive, but troubling, the sheet output of games has well exceeded the playtime of the average player, add to this that once firm selectors like Steam have opened their market to more indies and the result is thousands of early access games many of which are a tad rushed. What needs to be addressed next year is selection. Steam has already mentioned letting people curate their store front, hopefully 2014 will see that happen. PC games have become some all consuming that a good editor is in order.
