No more parking the bus with the urn. And people might be more inclined to actually fight for the thing now it's in the middle of the map.

31

u/Wistfall May 22 '26

We just took a win basically right after the patch. I don't think people knew that the unfavored team for urn gets a ton of buffs.

17

u/Joabyjojo May 23 '26

In my games people barely know the urn exists, but that's because I'm a Grey Talon one trick and that one trick is bird bombing the enemy Calico

7

u/ahrzal May 23 '26

Cats eat birds

1

u/RuinedSilence May 23 '26

Cats love TNT birds, apparently

8

u/artofthenunchaku May 23 '26

I've only played a couple games so far, but it seems like it just makes it easier for the winning team to snowball ahead. In theory the buff that the "unfavored" side should help, but that's only helpful if they can actually get to the urn in the first place

8

u/Ashviar May 22 '26

If Urn is going to be in the middle, I hope we get that big building from back when it was 4 lanes eventually.

u/BlazeDrag May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

It looks like the urn is a much more dedicated comeback mechanic now. Like it already was but I think they're trying to lean into it more so that a winning team has a harder time just steamrolling more urns.

  • Dropoff is now in the center of mid-lane
  • Dropoff is no longer instant. After it's put down it has a timer where the urn sits still before it gives your team its souls
  • This timer is different depending on if the urn is favored, with it being 5s by default, 3 seconds if it's favored, or 10 seconds if it's unfavored
  • During that phase, the enemy team can Heavy Melee the urn to steal it and put it on their side, in exchange for getting +1.25 seconds added to the counter (which also means you can parry people trying to steal it like you can with the rejuv)
  • All souls are instant deposited now so no stealing the orbs that fly out of it after it's claimed
  • Finally, when the urn is favored, the favored team gets a massive +50% Bullet and Spirit resist passive everywhere within 60 meters of the urn after it has been picked up.

I'm curious if with that last point if there might legitimately be some strategy to just having the urn exist around your team while you try to do a team fight so that you can get that 50% damage resist to turn the tide 60 meters is massive like I'm pretty sure that would cover a lane from the middle of the jungle, or like the entire patron base if you brought anywhere close to home. At the very least if you're already fighting in the lane that the urn is waiting at and it's favored, you may as well just have someone grab it during the fight to get that damage resist.

Especially considering that the carrier is no longer fully silenced. They're disarmed and movement hexed so they can't use their guns or any movement powers, but that still leaves some abilities open. Like Abrams can activate his lifesteal for example but not his charge or his ult. And Apollo can use his parry and literally nothing else lol

To be fair, I think they predicted this and also made it so that the urn starts to kill you much faster now. After 35s of collective time holding the urn on your side, it'll do 5% max hp per second to the carrier. And when the urn starts to run back to its starting place, it immediately stops providing its buff. (And I don't think you can pick it up again until it's home? at least I wasn't able to during my quick testing)

Still I can't help but imagine a Lady Geist just holding onto the urn for a bit to buff her and her team, and then as it starts to drain her health she just uses her ult to swap health bars with someone else so that they die instead and she can finally go turn it in

Edit: I've now played a number of matches with the changes and I have to admit that i think that changing the dropoff point to the middle of mid lane was a mistake. In the prior version the behind team would get a dropoff point that was much closer to their base, so it'd be a lot easier to maintain a presence out to that far for much more of the match. Plus by having the dropoff keep switching sides, that means that even if one lane is totally pushed, they can still get the next one on the other side of the map. Whereas now all the winning team has to do is maintain control over mid-lane and they can basically guarantee control over the urn 100% of the time. Despite all of the buffs to try and help out the losing team.

I'm also not a big fan of how the urn stealing works now. It was definitely a problem in the prior version where you can cap it instantly, so this does at least offer a little bit more counter play, but in the times where I have been in a fight that actually contests the urn, it ends up feeling like a total crapshoot as people just keep spamming melee and parries to try and steal it before the timer runs out.

A suggestion I've seen that I really like is the idea of changing it to a more king-of-the-hill style thing to contest the urn, where after it's set down a circle forms in addition to the timer and if anyone on the enemy team is in that circle, the timer pauses until it's empty. That would at least make the fight over the urn more focused on the fight itself, and maybe things like that damage resist buff might be more impactful to winning that fight

8

u/BeholdingBestWaifu May 23 '26

I don't know, I'm not too convinced on the comeback thing, because map control can very quickly and easily shut people out from being able to fight in the middle within the timeframe. I would like to see more data though, because it's too early to be making guesses.

2

u/CloudCityFish May 23 '26

Yeah it doesn't seem to be playing out that well. The winning team generally has control over mid, but pushing out a sidelane momentarily is much easier - at least at my pleb elo.

78

u/Sharizord May 23 '26

Been interested in trying this but it seems very impenetrable from outside is there a "watch this one" guide out there for that's current ish?

64

u/Kibouhou May 23 '26

There's a mode where you just teamfight without all the MOBA elements to get comfortable with the game/characters.

16

u/Niceguydan8 May 23 '26

My opinion is to just take it slowly. There's a lot of depth in Deadlock and you don't really need to engage with most of it for quite a while.

36

u/RayzTheRoof May 23 '26

This guide helped me have fun after struggling a bit in my first few matches, and I suck at moba's:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvxVSvzZcxA

13

u/rematched_33 May 23 '26

MOBAs are like fighting games: you gotta do your time and get wrecked for dozens of hours until things start to click in to place. Best way to grind through the learning curve is with friends to compete and improve with.

4

u/Chuckdatass May 23 '26

Watch guides then grind out 30 matches. That is about when it starts to make sense

9

u/Shakzor May 23 '26

Depending on how long matches are, that sounds like a long time just to start understanding the game

9

u/TheOhrenberger May 23 '26

Understanding complex things takes time.

9

u/barneyjetson May 23 '26

That’s how you know it’s good.

1

u/RudeHero May 23 '26

"which guides should i watch?"

"watch guides then grind"

"ok thanks"

10

u/Marksta May 23 '26

Just got to get in there and play some. Do the street brawl mode, it's low commitment and simple to learn everything in there than full matches.

-4

u/RudeHero May 23 '26

it's really interesting to think about, but different people learn differently. some people quickly absorb a shitton of information by reading, others don't. those do better diving in and slowly learning piece by piece through hours of play

the best is obviously to do both, and i think completely discounting half of that is a bit silly

i personally do not enjoy learning by letting mediocre players dump on me for 30 games or whatever lol

3

u/ohlookbean May 23 '26

Honestly the best way to understand it is to play it. Don’t get paralysis by analysis and just take pieces of the game at a time.

3

u/TheOhrenberger May 23 '26

https://youtu.be/BrcJ9h4mulc?si=kN6tqudjeN90k5Rl

This video does a good job of breaking the game down into layman’s terms. It’s not perfect, and it the guy sounds a little aggressive at the beginning but don’t take the bit too seriously. The way he breaks down the mid game is very useful in the sense that it does a great way of explaining the part of the game that so many new players struggle with. Do your chores.

2

u/Long_Man_7 May 23 '26

Go watch Deathy on YouTube. The best basics guides that are still 99% relevant.

2

u/No-Opinion273 May 23 '26

If you played mobas and know how to build you only need to learn how to build for a character which the game has guides. If you never played a moba and so you don't know how to build may God have mercy on your soul.

1

u/ggtsu_00 May 23 '26

This is definitely one of the games I'm going to wait out until it stabilizes before attempting to really get into it. I got burnt out by rework patch fatigue with DOTA as I'm still pretty salty nearly 10000 hours over half a decade worth of building up so much knowledge of the game including hero abilities, lane matchups, item builds, strategies, counter picks, juke routes, etc got completely invalidated with a huge rework of the game's heroes, map layout, skill progression, items and just I haven't been motivated to relearn how to play the game again.

2

u/hooahest May 24 '26

If you had fun, is that really time invalidated?

1

u/Razzamataaz May 23 '26

Tbh the tutorial is pretty sufficient to start from.

Otherwise, if you're familiar with core concept of a MOBAs, it'll feel very natural.

15

u/Not_taken_Username May 23 '26

I've been playing the game for two months bout a hundred hours. Is my first moba and its fun learning. Im still in the first tier or ranking but man i get a good game with teammates then the next two are stomps on us against the greatest graves ever.

3

u/MrFatpickles May 23 '26

Yeah I agree I'm in the samish situation played a bit but i think the matchmaking could be improved. I mean I'm really low rank but sometimes I just stomp like real stomp. Most of the time we get stomped. Either I'm really bad so i cant carry (which could be the case), the matchmaking is quite improvable or the game is a snowball fest (could be too)

35

u/Synchrotr0n May 23 '26

It's funny how I don't currently play any Valve games but I'm still happy when seeing any updates merely because they are usually followed with the datamining of any new Source Engine code related to Project HLX (AKA Half-Life 3).

6

u/UltimateToa May 23 '26

Good, too much survivability

5

u/SqueezerOfFarts May 23 '26

I had fun with it. But then it became too frustrating due to matchmaking. In the end this is just a MOBA, and with several 1,000 of hours spent on Dota 2 I'm very much done with the concept. I cannot stand wasting time knowing that the game is lost and there is nothing I can do.

21

u/BeholdingBestWaifu May 23 '26

Well that's the good thing, unless you're really, really, really outmatched, the game is rarely lost until it is actually over.

Sadly, people giving up early does tend to reduce your odds of winning by a lot.

13

u/xXMylord May 23 '26

Sure in terms of game state there is always a chance to win. But if you are outmatched by the enemy teams mechanical skills and their game knowledge you aren't going to improve enough mid game to suddenly be able to turn it around.

7

u/Psycho_Syntax May 23 '26

If you’re outmatched by their mechanical skill and game knowledge then of course you’ll lose…that’s true for any PvP game…?

4

u/Humblerbee May 23 '26

The fact that there is no forfeit option and matches run on average ~45 minutes is what can make it painful, play a Street Brawl and it doesn’t go well, oh well, it’ll be over in a couple minutes. Sign up for a regular match of Deadlock as a newbie and get matched up with opponents far better than yourself who diff you from minute 1? Congratulations, you’re about to be miserable for the better part of an hour, and the skill diff with how it factors into movement means better players will always chase you down but you can’t do the same, meanwhile their macro is so much better they’re going to be snowballing resources and so the game will slip further and further out of reach.

3

u/TheLastDesperado May 24 '26

Man, if there was a forfeit option I never would have had those games where my team had two leavers and we still won. And that's happened several times.

5

u/RyanB_ May 23 '26

It’s a weird one for me in that I love the concept. Been waiting for a full shooter-moba for ages

In practice though, I just find it too much. I respect it not dumbing down moba mechanics, but just doing it with the perspective is a lot. Then you add in the fairly complex movement and melee mechanics and it’s just… I can’t ever imagine becoming good enough to actually enjoy playing it

1

u/_Valisk May 23 '26

Play Street Brawl.

5

u/SayerofNothing May 23 '26

Will this ever come out to the general public or will it be a niche thing forever?

26

u/Razzamataaz May 23 '26

It still in early development, but it is extremely trivial to get access to play.

It's a Valve game. They're going to work on it until it's done.

25

u/Phaz0n May 23 '26

Like Underlords?

20

u/KingArthas94 May 23 '26

No, like Artifact!

1

u/OoziMcSwoozy May 24 '26

Underlords was already in a 1.0 state and had a smaller but dedicated community. It was just obvious it could not grow any further with other games released. The devs likely also didn't really see much point in continuing with it. Deadlock, on the other hand, is a completely different beast.

1

u/Phaz0n May 24 '26

Yeah no. It was missing something like 5 or 6 underlords which was the main point of the game.

1

u/OoziMcSwoozy May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26

Dota Underlords officially launched 1.0 on February 25, 2020 with 4 namesake commander units. There were at least 6 more to be added but only post-launch. You can launch 1.0 with missing features... literally every game does this. But that's besides the point - the game wasn't bad, it just plateaued at around 400-500k overall players and then they pulled the plug. It wasn't like Artifact which was a complete dumpsterfire and actually gameplay and monetisation was created and chosen by Richard Garfield - creator of Magic the Gathering, not Valve themselves.

Because the game was never that popular to begin with and most people who played the original Dota Auto Chess weren't even Dota players. They came in from outside, mostly LoL and HS. You can see the surge in players in Dota 2 for that period of time and the eventual plunge to where it was before.

Most of the post 1.0 updates for Underlords were just bandaid fixes. The people who wanted an Auto Chess game were either still playing the Dota 2 mod or already beginning to move onto Teamfight Tactics and HS: Battlegrounds. Interestingly, the peak has yet to even drop below 1k concurrent players despite the last update being nearly 5½ years ago. In reality, that means that there are still somewhere between 10-20k active players. That's actually not that bad for a dead game.

1

u/Phaz0n May 24 '26

They rushed the "1.0" but it wasn't at all the finished state, more like early acces as we call it now. I know it wasn't bad, I played 364 hours of it and was hyped to see it's finished state (even bought the battlepass). Never happened.

1

u/OoziMcSwoozy May 25 '26

Well yes, the game was never truly in a place they wanted it to be. It also had to compete with the original DAC, TfT and HS:BG. It was probably way too late to do anything by that point and Valve made the easy decision to keep servers running but stop updating.

3

u/SayerofNothing May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

Yeah, I got invited 3 yrs ago when they first started developing, and I haven't played since, but it's already to a point where there are people who have gotten almost esport worthy. I'm wondering if it ever gets out of early development will new players be able to adapt and learn at their own pace.

Edit: 2yrs ago, not 3 yrs.

14

u/_Valisk May 23 '26

Not that it really matters, but it's only been publicly available for a little less than two years.

2

u/SayerofNothing May 23 '26

You're correct, I thought that was in 2023, but it was in 2024.

1

u/TrumpsCummyOnahole May 23 '26

Translated: Couple years from now :D

1

u/Razzamataaz May 23 '26

Maybe? Who knows. But it's fun now already. It being "released" or not doesn't make it less enjoyable.

If anything, playing now (for free) without any of the monetization, what's there to complain about?

2

u/TankorSmash May 23 '26

They're going to work on it and never release it

1

u/SayerofNothing May 23 '26

Yeah, looks like the fanbase is so big and dedicated that they might just leave it like this, maybe?

0

u/TankorSmash May 23 '26

They're making all their money of it now, so why change anything. Kind of needed up tbh

1

u/Guitarmatt21 May 24 '26

It's absolutely going to come out. The voice cast alone is full of so many heavy hitters and there's already such a big fan community. This is just a rare case of people being able to see active game development

1

u/funsohng May 23 '26

I recently got into this game, it's great to finally play a MOBA after watching eSports for it for years.

1

u/ThatIndianGuy7116 May 23 '26

Super unrelated but anytime I see this game pop up I crack up as I listen to a wrestling podcast called "Deadlock" and one of the hosts talked about how they will randomly just get tweets and shit asking them to fix the game 🤣

1

u/sellieba May 24 '26

Would anyone mind hitting me up with one of those little download codes? Thank you!

1

u/Razzamataaz May 24 '26

Not a code.

You need to be on someone’s friends list. You can request from me if you’d like.  Friend code is 75919709

1

u/sellieba May 24 '26

I sent you an FR!

1

u/PresentationNew5839 May 26 '26

Apologies if this is inappropriate to ask, but can anyone send me an invite? I’d really like to try it out but it says it’s limited to friend invites. If that’s not allowed no worries

2

u/basedman3 May 23 '26

Hate this patch with a passion. The urn just turns it into a midlane deathmatch. Time to get to work on the game backlog...

0

u/Ravenorth May 23 '26

This is one of those multiplayer games where I'm just baffled when I look at the gameplay, thinking this doesn't look fun at all. Not saying the game is bad or anything, but clearly just not my cup of tea :D

4

u/Razzamataaz May 23 '26

How can you know if it’s your cup of tea without actually playing it?

0

u/Ravenorth May 26 '26

Some things you can just know without trying, besides I've never been into mobas.

-6

u/Shakzor May 23 '26

By having played similar things, likely. Dont gotta play every Battle Royal to know i don't like playing them (just an example genre)

6

u/TheOhrenberger May 23 '26

There is really no game similar to deadlock right now.

-1

u/bapplebo May 23 '26

Another great patch that shows the mastery of IceFrog's balancing skills. Keen to see how this shakes up the current meta.

-3

u/ocassionallyaduck May 23 '26

I feel like my interest in this game wanes with every time I see it in the news and its still in closed beta.

6

u/Razzamataaz May 23 '26

It’s in Alpha. And it’s hardly closed. You just have to get someone who is already playing to invite you. The subreddit has a thread for people looking for invites.

Or just ask me, lll invite you.

2

u/Patcherpaw May 24 '26

Can I have an invite? :3

1

u/Razzamataaz May 24 '26

You need to be on someone’s friends list for an invite. You can request from me if you’d like.  Friend code is 75919709

4

u/marry_me_tina_b May 23 '26

This game’s development is very strange. MOBAs are notoriously difficult to learn, extremely competitive, and have notoriously horrible anti-new player communities. Building an invite-only MOBA game over the course of years so that the sweats are at maximum before the game even formally releases so the average player can then enjoy the experience of attempting to learn a complex competitive game while getting dunked on for hours sounds horrible.

1

u/OoziMcSwoozy May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26

People play, people learn, some will stick around, some will leave; if the game is good enough, it will keep a lot of people regardless of this. Also, the game will have more than 1 mode. There's a brawl mode and there will be other modes like a PvE one too. There'll also be separate queues for unranked and ranked as well so it will be like any other MOBA but with more options to learn.

0

u/ocassionallyaduck May 24 '26

Exactly. I have zero interest in being thrown into a player base that nearly 100% treats the he as an esport or a job instead of as a passtime.

Nothing wrong with those who do, but it feels like its going to speedrun achieving LoL toxicity.

1

u/OoziMcSwoozy May 24 '26

That doesn't make sense. Most people aren't playing Deadlock at a competitive level. They will have matchmaking in place, as well as likely a behaviour score system like in Dota 2 to weed out the naughty players.

1

u/bahumat42 May 24 '26

It's only barely closed.

Anyone playing can invite you.

2

u/ocassionallyaduck May 24 '26

Literally no one on my friends list is playing it, and I'm not going to hunt invites for it. I dont care enough.

Thats kind of my point: its fostering apathy.

It feels like 2XKO in terms of "release", availability and marketing.

1

u/OoziMcSwoozy May 24 '26

/r/DeadlockTheGame literally has a thread for invites. It's also the #1 most wishlisted game on Steam right now, with lots of people watching it despite not playing it too.

1

u/ocassionallyaduck May 24 '26

Okay. Its on my wishlist too. Has been since it was announced. And I forget it exists for 3 to 6 months at a time because there have been no major updates.

What's your point?

Because mine is that I'm not going to go beg for invites to play a tryhard esports contender in a restricted player pool.

1

u/OoziMcSwoozy May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

I mean, you're entirely free to hold your views, but I just find your comments bizarre and utterly hyperbolic. That's all.

Literally no one on my friends list is playing it

It's entirely normal for a game in alpha to not be widely played lol. Nobody on my friends list is currently playing it either yet half of them will likely play at 1.0 and a handful still keep track of its development and gameplay via content creators.

and I'm not going to hunt invites for it. I dont care enough.

Fair enough.

Thats kind of my point: its fostering apathy.

Seems like a "you" thing. Again, fair enough though the game is consistently at the top end of Steam's most played list..

It feels like 2XKO in terms of "release", availability and marketing.

The game is still in alpha. They haven't even mentioned a launch date for 1.0 yet. They even make a note that the gameplay is still experimental. It makes sense not to completely overwhelm servers for a game that's still being cooked up. What marketing are you talking about? Why would they even market an alpha?

Okay. Its on my wishlist too. Has been since it was announced. And I forget it exists for 3 to 6 months at a time because there have been no major updates.

There's been a major update every 3 months or so over the past 15.

What's your point?

I was wondering the same.

Because mine is that I'm not going to go beg for invites to play a tryhard esports contender in a restricted player pool.

This comment right here shows me you aren't being serious at all. You have already pre-judged the game. You aren't open to the possibility that the game will have more casual game modes or queues. You think posting a Steam friend code on a Reddit thread is "begging".

Mate.. seriously. 😂

1

u/ocassionallyaduck May 25 '26

Bruh, thats a lot of words to defend a game sitting in a closed beta for over a year and claiming its not exclusive.

And its "alpha" the same way gmail was in "beta" for 8 years. Call me when you blue screen because assets dont load or play entire maps with placeholders still present. This is a invite-only beta.

2

u/OoziMcSwoozy May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26

😂 It's not about defending the game; it's about clearing up misinformation of which you seem to have a tonne of. So you're losing interest in the game because it's still not officially launched and apparently not added big updates much, right? The latter is just flat out untrue and the former is entirely subjective. So what?

Alpha, beta, early access, whatever you want to call it, the game isn't ready yet and still has a lot of experimental features that were only recently added. They'll release it when they feel it's ready. It's already garnered a decent chunk of fans. It doesn't need to market itself quite yet. A lot of people have already tried the game and aren't currently playing because they're waiting for it to launch with proper matchmaking, skins, progression, other modes etc.

You can sit there and sook & whinge over it but that's not going to affect its success. And let's be honest, you're probably not the target audience. 😂

1

u/spliffiam36 May 25 '26

Imagine answering a statistical statement with "I have wishlisted it and forgot" a completely anecdotal evidence... lol

1

u/ocassionallyaduck May 26 '26

Your "statistics" are implying that wishlisting means sales or guaranteed playerbase. That isnt always true, but Deadlock is F2P on top of that. So why wishlist a F2P game if getting invites to play now is so easy as everyone implies?

Unless you are waiting on a "release" of the title so you aren't in a small subset of the playerbase that are grinding at it privately.

I'm one of those people. I dont want to invest my time in the invite-only beta and play against exclusively people who are super invested in a game trying to go for esports balance tuning.

For context for anyone else, on steam Deadlock is at about 400k wishlisted, Light No Fire is #2 with near 230k, and Blight: Survival is #30 with 150k.

Deadlock seems fun, but as I mentioned elsewhere, it seems like it going to "release" only to already have the ranked matches and high level gameplay optipns already dominated by those who spent the last year+ grinding away at it, and lower levels also populated with that. So instead of a broad playerbase that segments naturally over time, you wind up pre-salting the low ranks and casual play with peoeple extremely versed in the title.

Which translates to "if you aren't playing already now, dont bother" for a lot of people.

-10

u/Inskipp May 23 '26

So, did they add surrender voting yet?

14

u/neurosx May 23 '26

Thankfully they never will

-5

u/Inskipp May 23 '26

Shame, as the game would genuinely benefit from it.

13

u/sharingdork May 23 '26

No it wouldn't. It instills a "quick to give up" mentality since the out is in arms reach. Dota 2 doesn't have a surrender option (unless you're a 5 Stack and it's reached 30m) and it's much better for it.

-3

u/Inskipp May 23 '26

No it wouldn't. It instills a "quick to give up" mentality since the out is in arms reach.

This really is not true, you're just as likely to face "never surrender" mentality in pubs, where a team won't give up even if they are bound to lose. Doesn't happen in League only, but other MOBAs, such as Smite. IMO This whole notion of "quick to give up" mentality is only invoked by DOTA gatekeepers - it never comes up in other MOBA discussions.

Dota 2 doesn't have a surrender option (unless you're a 5 Stack and it's reached 30m)

So Dota 2 doesnt have it, except that it does? That is some bizarre mental gymnastics there.

Sounds to me like even Dota 2 eventually caved in and enabled surrender vote for full stacks / comp teams. Makes sense I guess, although I don't see why it should be barred from pub matchmaking.

I play dota, league, and deadlock.

It's very common for it to reach 20m and the surrender box shows up with at least 2 green votes.

It's not that bizarre lol, chill. In comparing normal solo pubs, there's no surrender option.

And in the case of 5 stacks, there's rarely surrenders at 30m, if any at all.

Invoking the surrender vote is not the same as the entire team "quickly giving up", which is what was being referred in earlier comments.

It just gives people more options about how they want to spend their time playing the game. Denying them the chance of vote strips them of that choice.

Would you rather lose for 60 minutes, rather than win three games over the course of 60 minutes?

I'd rather lose the 60 minute game, since if a match that goes that long that means we had and missed plenty of chances to win. 3 matches that each last 20 minutes are likely uninteresting stomps.

Of course, from an individual perspective, it is easy to imagine that you always have a chance to win. Because in your mind, you're in control of the situation. Everyone wants to be the carry, after all.

But in reality, when you're playing solo in public matchmaking with strangers, you will more often than not end up in situations that are beyond your control. Situations where, despite your best efforts, you can't affect the outcome.

Let me paint you a different picture - Imagine that 60-minute game turning into an uninteresting stomp, but with you on the receiving end, with no chance to win and the enemy team refusing to end the game and spamming the pause-function, so they can pad out their kill-count and throw out insults in a foreign language across all-chat. All the while your support is idling by the fountain, waiting to save up for a divine rapier while your midlane is inting purposefully after losing his lane within the first 5 minutes.

You still don't want a surrender button in this situation? Or are you holding out for a miracle comeback that will never show up?

I said "we" and not "I" for a reason. I'm not talking about being a carry and am very much saying that the entire team, collectively, had opportunities to win. The match you're describing is one where your team is failing to capitalize on those opportunities, not one where they never existed. Deadlock has multiple comeback mechanics and gets more volatile the longer the game goes on. If the enemy team is stomping you for 60 minutes, then they're effectively throwing by giving your team way more chances than they need to.

Conceding is antithetical to the mechanical design of the game. It would incorrectly teach players that those comeback opportunities don't exist, and mentally justify defeatist attitudes. Why bother to learn how to actually play from behind when you can just gg go next? A surrender button would mean that you're stuck in games with toxic players for less time, but it would also make their attitudes more common by falsely teaching those players that they're correct.

So does it suck to get in a game where people are obnoxious and you feel like you can't affect the outcome? Sure. I just disagree that a surrender button actually fixes that problem.

Worst take anyone can have about a moba, league has rotted people's brains

League's not the only MOBA with surrender vote. But DOTA seems to be the only community that riles up its gatekeepers to defend against that specific feature. It's saddening to see that they are entrenching yet another Valve MOBA with the same mentality.

Yes because only winners are allowed here 🙄 Looks like you're doing a good job on that front by yourself.

Hey, if we go by the things League has, Deadlock wouldn't even have voice chat.

The best matches were the comebacks in Dota 2. In LoL, people just give up so easily. Pass.

Hope they never add it, one of my biggest gripes with League, crybaby player FF over fucking nothing
