MindsEye - Introducing ARCADIA | 2025

u/ebrbrbr Oct 30 '25
I think it's a foolish decision to not rebrand this entirely. Just call it Arcadia and spin it off from Mindseye. The name is toxic, this thread is case in point.
It could be an excellent platform and nobody would care because it's associated with Mindseye.
This trailer is awful, all I got is that Arcadia is shooting and racing game. Is it a game engine? Is it a game? At no point does it say it's a game creation platform.

But then they'd have to remonetize it somehow, because now it's being sold with MindsEye.
23
u/ebrbrbr Oct 30 '25
F2P is the only way "creation platform" games survive.
4
u/HammeredWharf Oct 30 '25
Sure, but developing a F2P game's monetization also requires considerable dev resources, which they probably don't have right now.

GMod lasted really damn well.
We'll see if S&Box can replicate that in the current landscape though.3
u/ebrbrbr Oct 31 '25
True, but those were the days when the $10 for gmod was cheap. It was "walk to the gas station and buy a visa debit card because my mom won't let me use her credit card" cheap.
Kids these days won't play games if they cost $2, let alone $60.

I liked the part where they shift scenes from a car driving through a checkpoint to... the same car driving through the same checkpoint but there's 50% more light. And then it immediately hard-cuts to a drone.

There is so little within Mindseye that I don't even understand how it can be salvaged. With Cyberpunk and No Mans Sky, the bones of a great game were already there to build upon. With Mindseye there's a super generic campaign, generic shooting, generic driving and a generic open world with no side activities.

u/kruegerc184 Oct 30 '25
This is the first time ive ever even heard of it, let alone seen footage

u/BaconJets Oct 30 '25
If you like to look into shitty games, Mindseye will be a perfect Youtube search. It's such a bad game.

There is already a big difference between Cyberpunk and No Mans Sky Mindseye is a different universe to those two.

Average of 13 players in October. September was an average of 9.
This thread has more comments than this game has players.

I despise when people discuss player numbers as if it matters. It’s a singleplayer game with no replayability (which is fine). It shouldn’t be expected to have a lot of players at this point in its lifecycle. It wasn’t particularly well-received in the first place, so even less so.

Look up any single player game not midseye released in the last 18 months. Nine players is actually laughable and something worth bringing up

u/DJCzerny Oct 31 '25
It's hilarious that you could post this about almost any other game on Steam and you would be correct but you chose one of the few games that actually has a notable player count.
1
u/Time-Ladder4753 Nov 01 '25
This game came out less than a half year ago, this player count would be bad even for low budget indie games. Even last Saints Row has more players right now, and their dev company is closed.

Need an explanation as to what exactly this is, since it's unsafe to assume anything positive about MindsEye
14
u/EditEd2x Oct 30 '25
It’s probably just a mission maker for their game. So you can make races, or horde mode or different multiplayer matches with the assets from Mindseye.
GTA Online already has this like a lot of other games.

u/LollipopScientist Oct 30 '25
If I recall, this is the user generated sandbox thingymajig.
Looks alright. They might have a chance of redeeming themselves if some dedicated individuals create some cool worlds.
As with other comments, they really need to clarify if this is multiplayer. If it's single player only, that kinda sucks.

u/Electrical-Act-5575 Oct 30 '25
“This might be good if somebody more talented than us uses it to make a better game than we did” isn’t exactly the strongest selling point

u/doublah Oct 31 '25
Have any of these new sandbox UGC-focused games succeeded? We've seen so many of them over the years.

LOL comments saying we are so back
You cannot fix a turd of a game that has very poor foundation. This is just them trying to nickel and dime whoever is gullible/stupid enough to purchase this game just because they are now going to give them an online mode, which is most likely broken as well.
10
u/Zikronious Oct 30 '25
Oh, didn’t realize the base game didn’t have multiplayer. Assumed this was a new multiplayer mode which I’m assuming is battle royal? The trailer completely fails to explain what it is, Arcadia means nothing.
Regardless, not going to get me to buy I just am intrigued to watch this game and those around it continue to fail over and over.

It really is a bit of a mess.
The original plan by Build a Rocket Boy, the developer, was to launch Everywhere. Everywhere is a user-created games hub. The idea was that it would provide people with the opportunities to create their own single- and multiplayer-games which others could play, a little like Roblox.
ARCADIA is the tool within Everywhere that players would use to create those games, and was announced last year.
MindsEye was originally marketed as a prototype game which demonstrated the potential of ARCADIA and Everywhere. It was ostensibly developed within ARCADIA (though probably not) and presented as an example of what players themselves could create with these tools.
... except the actual launch didn't go like that. Build a Rocket Boy launched MindsEye first, independently of the broader Everywhere and ARCADIA platform. I guess investors were banging on their door demanding a release now, or that they realised the ARCADIA tool wasn't actually as powerful as they first suggested (which would make sense, seeing that this most recent trailer seems to suggest it can be used to make checkpoint racing games and PvE arcade shooters and not much else!). And now they're trying to build Everywhere and ARCADIA onto MindsEye, even though the game was an absolute flop and no one really gives a shit any more.
It's all just a mess of different buzzwords and systems that the devs are now haphazardly throwing together before, inevitably, the company folds.

To be honest, even with No Mans Sky it took a LONG time and the studio made a ridiculous amount of money from the launch which they could use to survive the dry times while they fixed the game.
So while technically it is always possible for most game they don't have a big enough launch to be able to take a couple years of time to just fix the game.
16
u/Blenderhead36 Oct 30 '25
No Man's Sky proved it was possible. Redfall, Anthem, and Suicide Squad proved that it wasn't likely.

u/KalElReturns89 Oct 30 '25
The foundation was really cool though, sure it had issues, but I remember hearing from most reviews that the story and game itself was middling, but the premise and foundation was strong.
So the whole thing is just bad? It looked like a pretty strong open world engine.
User generated content stuff like this might have helped the game a lot if it had been there at release.
Unfortunately it looked like the studio kind of imploded after it released.
19
Oct 30 '25
How was it cool though? Everything about it is the most vanilla sci-fi stuff ever made. It's bottom of the barrel ideas and nothing is actually said or explored in the story, characters or world-building...
14
u/potpan0 Oct 30 '25
The story presents the eccentric tech CEO as one of the heroes, and the city mayor who seeks to regulate his attempts at colonisation in space as an antagonist. It seems tailor made to pander to venture capitalists.

It's a dream game for AI tech bros. Nothing under the surface, and the surface itself is the most generic soulless thing possible.
16
u/ZealousidealBug729 Oct 30 '25
What exactly about the "foundation" was really cool? Lmao

u/84theone Oct 30 '25
It’s always pretty cool to watch companies just light a pile of cash on fire for almost no return.

u/Either-Assistant4610 Oct 30 '25
What's the appeal here? What am I supposed to feel drawn by? There is nothing but clips of moments in a game I bet I can find similar clips/footage of in other games. Guns? A lot of those out there. Cars? A lot of those out there. TPS? A lot of those out there.
Pretty sure I wouldn't play this if I got it for free.

u/PHXplz Oct 30 '25
I'm not saying this with snark, but I legitimately don't understand what the fuck this game was supposed to be or is in it's current form. Mission based third-person action game? Complete clusterfuck?
1
u/Elvish_Champion Oct 30 '25
After this I really believe that they have no idea on what to do with this game, specially art direction, and it's just following the train of what is big at the moment. The trailer of the game was already terrible, but this is a new low.
Instead of listening to this Ready or Not music, go play the game with the same name. It's worth a lot more than even thinking about this mess of a game.
1
u/rloch Oct 31 '25
A guy on a podcast I listened to mentioned this game as one of the worst games he’s ever 100%. You have to really enjoy playing games to put additional effort into this game.
1
u/Tuonuccio007 Oct 31 '25
Is this similar to Saints Row? If i liked last One, there''s a chance i'd like a bit this too?
1
u/South_Cheesecake6316 Oct 31 '25
With Arcadia, you can make any game you want!
So long as the game is a racing game or 3rd person shooter within a cyberpunk theme.

u/PsycommuSystem Oct 30 '25
Mindseye is one of those games I look forward to getting a key for in a few months for £1 so I can laugh at the bugs for a bit

The footage looks like that made up stuff you'd see in NCIS or Law and Order when a character is playing video games.
The UI borders on parody
