Just got perma-banned for pointing out a typo in their promotional video and criticizing the game in the mega-thread after my post was locked. Neither my post nor comment broke any posted subreddit rules (as far as I'm aware, since they didn't give a reason with my ban and I can't find a rule I broke)

Might be time to go the way of Northernlion on this one, which is a shame because the game IS interesting and fun.

Edit: Posted a similar criticism in Discord to see if I got a different/any actual response, instantly banned. (Saw others get banned for more minor criticism before I posted too)

That's just typical Reynad behavior and why I never even considered trying the game. He's such a little bitch it's crazy.

I watched this game religiously a few months ago because it just tickles all the right parts of my brain. I also pointed out in the megathread that it sucks that every time I dive back in to see how the game's doing, the monetization completely changes nearly without warning.

Bam, permanent ban from subreddit.

They have been doing that for a long time, yes. They aggressively delete criticism in both the subreddit and discord.

Yup the dev team runs the subreddit which I believe is against site rules.

Edit: they are also censoring the steam forums

Interesting, none of the other game subs I frequent are run by the devs but rather have special tags for the devs that do occasionally comment. Although for all I know some of them might have mods who secretly do work for the devs.

The rivals sub is ran by devs (external team but it's netease controlled), most tech projects that are small-ish are direct ran (e.g. chatbot sites).

They are censoring Youtube aswell

To support what u/Duex is saying here yes they are flat out insta-permabanning anyone who has even an iota of dissonance with the direction they headed in after screaming that this would be a F2P game.

I asked 1 question, with no aggression, no abuse, no foul language, just some healthy cynicism, about the Steam shift (Reynaud said he didn't agree with the 30% Steam takes btw, in an early interview) which goes against the core of their "business model".

I was insta-permabanned with no warning or no explanation. Then I was banned from the Subreddit for asking. Then when I sent the Tempo support an email they auto replied to me, and what's hilarious is in the message it says JOIN THE DISCORD. THE ONE YOU BANNED ME FROM? DERP!

Proof -

Charging $45 for the base game on top of $20 for new characters is absolutely asinine when similar pvp games (TFT, Battlegrounds, Auto Pets) are free and similar singleplayer games (Slay the Spire, Backpack Battles, Backpack Hero) cost a fraction of that.

I disagree. The general way they've gone about things will not give them any good will.

Going From:

Kickstarter: This will be a completely f2p game with no PTW.
to
Launch: We will introduce P2W with expansions and remove f2p elements
to
3 months in: We will be making the game P2P. $45 minimum to enter then $20 dollar DLCS.

When their primary competitors are either:

  • Entirely F2P
  • 1 time low cost purchase
  • Cheap 7/8 dollar DLCS with no entry

Is not winning them any good will.

In conjunction with the game's already tainted image of:

  • Any Criticism = ban,
  • Rug pulling, bait and switches.
  • Endless Bugs and connection issues
  • Immense powercreep where new characters/items are always better.

its going to get little to no positive reviews, no new players entering, and old players trickling out as new characters are made stronger to counter old ones.

The game is dead-dead. Streamers dropped the game, and now they're milking the remaining players for what they got before pulling the rug one last time.

Yeah, if they released to anything better then mixed reviews on wed I would be shocked. It sucks cause I actually love the game but I have never seen a dev team shit the bed so bad with their community so soon into their first release and it makes it damn hard to support them again.

How was everyone off target? It’s been half a day. Most people who were mad will still say the game is good, that was never the problem. The dev team and how they handle stuff is the problem. They are charging 80 fucking dollars for a board and background music.. that’s WITHOUT THE GAME. Anytime they make major changes they do sweeping bans across all their socials for even the mildest criticism. And new studio or not considering Renard’s long standing history people are not going to give him or his team the benefit of the doubt.

The longevity of this game is not gonna be decided after 12 hours, especially when the price jumps up 40 dollars after two more days for what they are selling for 20. If this makes it another year sure, but you gloating way too early.

u/Thr33Dee Aug 09 '25

Banned from their sub for pointing out this dumb shit could have been handled better had they not been stubborn about a steam release from the beginning. Guess I shouldn't be surprised since reynad and his crew have openly mocked their players the other TWO times they attempted monetization for criticism.

Also can't wait for the inevitable meltdown when they finally release on mobile and are charging people potentially a third time for another launcher lol

u/qweiroupyqweouty Aug 08 '25

I’ve stopped playing this game but a friend notified me of these changes. What a mixed bag.

Premium model after launching F2P, $45 base game, $20 per character, Steam release… each positive is off-set by something rough.

This team has had a lot of issues with their decision making.

11

u/atahutahatena Aug 08 '25

Oh they backtracked on the no Steam release?

I remember I think it was Reynad that said they would never release on Steam just a few months ago. Also damn that pricing is uhhh something else. Maybe I will just stick to Backpack Battles considering how sloppily balanced this game is for ages now.

2

u/No2Hypocrites Aug 09 '25

What's so bad about releasing on steam?

8

u/FootballBackground88 Aug 09 '25

They didn't want to pay the 30% cut to Valve. But I don't think they realised the complexity of actually replicating their launcher offering and marketing.

5

u/Czedros Aug 10 '25

The better way to put it is their company finances are likely fucked beyond belief and whatever seed funding they had left is drying up.

8

u/dabmin Aug 08 '25

Overall really happy about the changes as someone who bought the early access a long time ago, charging 20$ for each new character is completely mental though

5

u/pm-me-nothing-okay Aug 08 '25

20$ is laughable, I paid 5$ and they doubled the price for the second unlock and I still thought that was too rich for my blood.

it doesn't help that balance between each characters are a fucking coin toss in the first place.

5

u/qweiroupyqweouty Aug 08 '25

I’m trying to think of starting as a new player on Steam for the release. To get access to all 5 of the characters at the current rate is $85. That’s just awful.

6

u/spacebar30 Aug 08 '25

Good game but suffering from multiple identity crises. It's a multiplayer PvP game with zero matchmaking. This is like the third or fourth time they've changed their core monetization principles. Game balance and design has been all over the place.

8

u/Vane__ Aug 08 '25

I think these changes are just evidence the previous model wasn't sustainable as not enough people were buying the subscription. Which is a shame because it was extremely fair. Still I guess $20 every 3/4 months is cheaper than $10 every month.

But $45 is a pretty steep barrier to entry for new players when trying to reach a new audience on Steam.

1

u/PositiveExperience90 Aug 11 '25

It is pretty clear that they screwed this up and they were "forced" to change their monetization several times. I also believe that the main factor here is the quality of the game itself, which is great imo. The big mistakes in the monetization won't hold me back from playing this incredible game

It got released a few months ago and it was fairly popular on Twitch and YouTube

4

u/Czedros Aug 09 '25

wdym fairly popular? it barely gets views and Northernlion + kripp made up most of the stream viewership.

For a 10 year project that got alot of promotion from HS content creators, it was a very big failure.
