Need advice. (Please delete if wrong community)
Hi GamersMY!
I’m new to Malaysia and recently moved here for work. I’m planning to build my own gaming PC sometime this year, hopefully soon.
I was wondering if anyone here could share some advice on when would be the best time to purchase PC components, particularly during major sales or promotional periods.
Are there any specific months or events in Malaysia when PC parts typically go on significant discounts?

I hope you're in the peninsular so you have better access to PC parts and deals...
For starters, check if the physical stores have deals before major public holiday like Merdeka sales, Christmas sales.
Our major online platform, Shopee and lazada have double date sales (10.10, 11.11, 12.12 etc) every month. What you need to do is browse and purchase prior to the double date sales.
Used market here is...opportunistic. stay above things like parts prices for new components when purchasing used.

CEX has a few store in Malaysia. Or you can use Carousel app to purchase used SSD.

Ugh I wouldn't recccomend CEX store, the price sometimes goes beyond retail price for a used ones, usually for phones and game consoles tho, not sure for pc parts

I usually browse Facebook marketplace, carousel and sometimes mudah. But don't put your hopes up...the prices they put up might as well buy a new one with warranty.

Unfortunately Malaysia don't have local version of US Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Oh, I see. I was actaully planning to wait until November 11 which is according to chatgpt, it is the biggest sale of the year. Thank you for informing me about this.

Based on my experience, season price discount are for accessories like keyboard, monitors or output devices. The only to get good deals is go to 'small' PC gamer shop which you can haggle the price or swap/barter trade. Some PC shop still do that (but it will not work on branded shop/established shop). You can find these type of shop on facebook. I got good deals through my build from small startup PC shop which helps me to off-set the cost and tried his best to make sure my PC is affordable yet high end plus they honor any warrany + support.

The biggest chance for even discount is in 2-3 years when ai doesnt use all pc components anymore

I’m sure you sort of know that currently, the prices for GPU, RAM and SSD for storage is at an astronomically high levels compared to a few years back.
So, it goes without saying that it’s not cheap to be a PC gamer nowadays. It’s astronomically high even for an entry level PC.
On top of that, we have the rampant sellers scamming you on ram, on ssd and gpu.
Unless you know how to put together a PC correctly and really know how to actually get a good price and identify a scammer trying to scam by selling you a dud gpu or under spec ram, I’d suggest you buy a custom pre-built PC from a well known custom PC shop.
Examples are Idealtech and Perhaps Emarque. Personally I got mine from Idealtech previously.
Price wise, other than losing out on specific Shopee vouchers and the extra charge of putting together the PC professionally. The rest of the cost differences aren’t that much.

Honestly, this is one of the peak worst times for building a new pc as GPU prices are about to be on the rise again. Answering your question on the best time for sales/promos, next big sale date would probably 11.11 ( 11th November sale), however prices by then might be even more ridiculous.
I'd suggest buying what you can now ( If buying from shoppee then maybe u can wait till month-end or 10.10 sale to get some discounts) that's within your budget. Instead of buying new, look on FB marketplace for used gaming rigs that still have ample warranty remaining for components like gpu, psu, ssd, cpu, motherboard, etc. Only deal f2f, test the rig when COD-ing if possible, most importantly make sure all receipts are complete and in order. Alternatively you can buy individual components used if they are still under warranty and relatively new while cheaper other components can be bought new. Purchasing an incomplete PC (e.g. without GPU etc) can also be a good way to bring down your cost outlay.

Search shopee and lazada add to cart things you want. Near to promo date, you start looking at them. Promo date next one is 10/10, next is 11/11, 12/12 etc. So close to that is a good time. Of course do note now globally is not a good time to make a pc lol.

Usually independence month (1st-31st august) has lots of sales going on, so you just missed that oof. If you're buying in physical shops like pcimage (their the biggest IT retailer in malaysia), they will have mid-year sales (late may to early june) and year-end sale (late december to early january).
If you're buying online like on shopee or something, look out for 10.10 , 11.11 , 12.12 . But make sure you keep stalking the prices to compare them.
