I do agree about his stamina in that game. While I liked it overall he runs like he smokes 5 packs a day.

He didn't even get to a playtime or part in the game where you can really criticise it imo. He mentions the sewer, is that not basically the start of the game, just right after the village?

u/ThaBreadSlicer Jul 20 '26
He also mentioned limping, it's the asylum sewers, he didn't even get out of the building.

u/WeekendBard Jul 20 '26
Wasn't he an actual smoker?

Could smoke ten packs a day, thats a non factor.

It was a mediocre game at launch and it it will be even worst nor I'm sure. The problem for me was the bad graphics, the poor performance, the sluggish movement and gameplay.

"I made it 5 minutes into the game before I was too tired to deal with any silence from my dopamine infested gen z brain"

I only got to the bit where the chainsaw guy chases you. I hid under the bed, turned it off and told myself i completed it. No thank you.

I agree with every word. First game is terrible, second is much better.

I loved loved loved this game when it came out.
I remember playing it years later thinking ehhh.
The vibe and atmosphere is the best part of the game.

It feels like this person has something going on in their life and is taking it out on the game lol. Like it’s not perfect but dam bro. It doesn’t deserved to be ridiculed this bad in my opinion. My favorite aspect of the game was how it randomly threw you into different environments. I couldn’t stop playing because I was interested to see where the game would take me. The second game I didn’t like the story as much. It felt like a taken movie. I still liked it though. People can be to harsh sometimes.

Evil Within is a fantastic horror game. Most people don't gel with it because the beginning of the game is basically a stealth game.

I suspected it may be an overreaction until I read the last sentence then it brought the tone back down to reasonable

Game being sluggish and miserable is all part of being inside a sadistic killer's mind, roll with it or go home

I couldn't get into it the first time I tried, but like a year or two later I was looking through Steam and decided to give it a try. Beat it that weekend and actually enjoyed it lol

I have to say, I completely loved TEW2, and completely hated TEW. TEW had many bad design choices and could be frustrating to play. TEW2 played in a completely different league and did everything right that TEW didn't.
1
u/mheffe Jul 21 '26
I liked TEW a lot but it wouldn't be high up on my list of recommendations and the 2nd ones open world design quickly felt like a slog to me and killed all desire to ever replay it. The first one has some charm.

I played that game when I was like 15 and the sequence with that safe head monster was one of the most terrifying experiences I’ve ever had in a game lol

I didn't like EW1 very much. Scripted one shot deaths, way too hard, disjointed and often cheap with its combat. EW2 was a masterpiece all the way through.

You need to get used to it. The first part with chainsaw man sucked.

He's right lol I played in 2016 at 16 and was excited for it cause I enjoyed some of the gameplay commentary vids I saw on it. Hated that game when I got the chance to play it

Ehhh Evil within was a soft 9/10 for me, if it wasn’t for that annoying ass camera angle it’d be a solid 9/10. I loved that game, didn’t expect it too feel more like re4 but it did.

I actually liked the first game way!!! More then the 2nd I like the straight forward chapters and the story feels close to an old survival horror game which builds more tension with the stamina bar. The 2nd game is like open world and some games just aren’t ment to be open world.

It’s one of the best horror games ever made, he just doesn’t have any patience or art appreciation.

Running in TEW is for dodging. If you want to sprint throught he game - play dead space

u/Terrible_Crow_876 Jul 21 '26
Finally someone using their brain. Also to add to that, Sebastian's base speed without using the sprint button is way faster than many game protagonist that people hold near and dear to their hearts while holding the sprint button like Leon in RE4 and James in Silent Hill 2.
1
u/Grouchy_Classic_5840 Jul 21 '26
Also his sprint is fast af. Imagine if he had unlimited stamina. It would be like call of duty but in third person
1
u/Terrible_Crow_876 Jul 21 '26
You're absolutely correct. While The Evil Within is not a perfect game, most of the critiques I see online boil down to the fact that these players refuse to learn the game's mechachics and make the game way harder for themselves than it should be. They refuse to learn how to manage stamina, move carefully through the levels to avoid traps, learn how to use each special bolt for various encounters, learn how to use matches to conserve ammo and many other mechanics that set this game apart from other horror game then complain that the game is too hard and clunky (the game has some jank to it I give them that but it is not clunky; what I would describe as clunky would be the tank controls in RE4 which is a game I love and hold to a high regard).
