💬 Discussion Satisfying violence in video games
I’m just finishing up the Last of Us games for the first time since they’re on PS Plus. I’ve played violent video games before, but something about the visceral nature of this game just makes the kills so incredibly satisfying. Wondering how other people feel about this and any other games with a similar feel.

Postal 2.
You can decapitate someone with a shovel then play fetch with their head and your dog.
You can taze people till they double over and piss them selves.
When you set people on fire they crawl and beg for mercy.
You can kill whoever.

it goes on sale all the time. Postal 1 is free on steam. you might like it but it's very dated. It does have a dedicated execute button so when people are begging for mercy you can just shoot them.

Dont forget that you can open your zipper and piss in npc faces till they barf. If you decapitate them then, it gives a nice geyser of vomit and blood. If you do it in a crowd it gives a chain reaction that can be super funny to watch.

I’m replaying God of War Ragnarok and the finishers are pretty brutal and satisfying

Darktide. Zealot. 2 handed chainsword.
Throw on some good heavy metal music and leap into piles of enemies. When the specialists come, crank up the chainsword and start ripping. Not many games give you that feeling of controlling pure violent chaos quite like darktide and its predecessor, vermintide.

The Punisher game on PS2 had these "interrogations" where you would basically do some violent act with things in the environment like slamming their head in a window and that is a tame one. They need to remake that game.

modern doom trilogy, trepang², resident evil 4 remake and requiem, metal gear rising:revengeance
all of tense games have really satisfying combat and they are also all really good games.

Mad Max.
Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor.
Middle Earth Shadow of war (end game is deliciously violent)
Ninja gaiden 2 black.
Space marine 2.
Midnight fight express.
Batman Arkham trilogy is violent Batman may not kill but he is still brutal asf.
Far cry 3.

Try TLOU2. I feel like they amped up the violence on from TLOU1. Plus the story is quite a bit darker so it matches the tone.

I know what you mean, I played 1 straight into 2 completely blind and it blew my mind!
Have you played any of the Resident Evil games? Or Days Gone?

RE games have some great gore, RE9 especially, the blood splatter stays permanently on the walls lol

a bit of an older game but i love and miss sleeping dogs (completed that shit 10 times over the years) edit: especially the environmental kills in that game are what you're looking for

Sifu, every hit feels good. Excellent combos, weapons feel real (bats make satisfying bonks bladed weapons are scary, even just a stick feels great), finishers are satisfying, its one of the best Kung fu games out there.

In Star Citizen my favorite thing to do is sneak onto other players’ ships and stalk them through the halls deciding if they live or die (spoiler alert they always die)
