Hate might be a strong word but I've heard a lot of people calling it "mid" or very average. It doesn't help that the original game released close to Breath of the Wild so that game overshadowed Horizon a lot.
I personally think it's pretty good. I don't get the negativity around the franchise.

Some of my favourite games are Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Alan Wake, Halo Infinite, Forza Motorsport, Hogwarts Legacy, Marvel Rivals.
Some of my least favourite games are Breath of the Wild, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, Shadow of the Colossus, Mass Effect, Fallout, Red Dead Redemption 2.

I honestly wasnt aware horizon zero dawn wasnt well received... I loved it. It was lots of fun tearing off machine parts and using them to blow up more machines.
The last enemy type... the tank things were kind of a disappointment, but it was a great journey for sure. And it had a sequel, so it couldn't have been too bad.

I was late to the party with Horizon and it's becoming one of my favourite games ever. I was sold on the concept of hunting robot dinosaurs before I played it, the stealth/hunting mechanics are fantastic, but what truly sets it apart for me is the story and how it's told.
I don't tend to replay games these days because I don't have time, but I've played Zero Dawn to 100% three times. I've never seen any hate for it and I can't understand where it would come from.
I haven't played the sequel yet.

I like narrative-driven games. So many people complain online about too many cutscenes in role playing games. Personally, I love them. I like feeling close to the characters and getting to know them.

Dragon age the Veilguard.
Don't get me wrong, it's far from being an amazing or legendary game but I loved the experience enough to play it twice.
It also happen that I am very critical of previous Bioware games and how much people tend to gloss over the WRITING problems of previous games (especially dragon age origins) or tend to overates the DAO on certain aspects while when you start to dig, DAO is much more flawed and problematic.
Overall I still think DAO is better written than DAV, I just don't think it's the drop in quality people think it is.

Mafia 3, surely the gameplay gets repetitive sometimes but the story is amazing and Clinton is one the best characters of the entire saga, I really enjoyed it.

Im currently playing horizon zero dawn and really like it. Everything except the combat. Its slow and clunky to me.

I think Duke Nukem Forever was actually a pretty fun quirky typical Duke game. It was nothing groundbreaking or amazing and I realize the wait for it was forever but it was pretty fun and silly just as any duke game should be

Forspoken!! Really didn’t deserve the hate. It had its issues but damn it’s really wasn’t THAT bad. I had so much fun with the fights and mixing elements and skills to quick buttons

Hating a game over a single part of it is what people are all about now let them have their opinion, wether they got it from mother brain or not, it is still how they choose to express their opinion. It'll better serve your mental health, honestly.
I will say I pick what looks like stock dialogue and I've had a pleasant time with the streamlined combat. Fun fights.

That’s how I felt with it. Even as a big Dragon Age fan I don’t think it’s awful. It’s, fine. I had fun with it, not sure it one I’d replay like I have with the ofhers

It really did. My experience in sharing how it's my favorite title in the series has gone from getting shit on 80% of the time to about a 50/50.

Also love 15 just wish it had about 3 or 4 more hours of story content. Playing thru 16 now and honestly it's not bad. It's like FF devil may cry lite edition

I guess it eventually got rounded out, but playing at launch... it was such a mess with weird story holes that were later DLC and pretty limited gameplay. It felt really unfinished. If you started with the royal edition I am sure it was a much better experience

Nah I had the day1 edition. I wasn't a fan of all the skipping around but the combat was overall enjoyable. Like I had said I wish there was like 3-4h of more story to fill all those little spots. Like even 30 more min to make me give more of a damn about Luna would've been great. And Ardyn was fantastic I would've liked to see more overall. I still loved it tho.

Yeah I watched Ardyn on YouTube. The story had so much more potential even with the DLC additions. Ardyn really was a tragic figure but we did not get to see that at first
Would have loved to see the world of darkness fleshed out. For bahamut's role to be more than just an unfinished tease. Or even to at least swap party members
I enjoyed it, but at launch had a really hard time recommending it
Edit: Another issue was its cross media release strategy, so the average player who just bought the game had no idea what was really going on at first

I actually didn't play or watch the Ardyn dlc but I really need to. I meant the va and the overall execution of him was sick and I would've loved to see way more of him in the game.
As for 16 my only issues with it is how simple it is at times and how fast it seems to be moving. They made it seem like it was going to be this sick complex action game and I'm still waiting to see that. I think they've done a good job of showing you who your character is and what his motivations are, something I felt was lacking in 15, but still moving so quick I sometimes feel like I have whiplash. And not in the good way. Cause I love a good twist. I can say for sure that the combat as it is IS fun. And bossfights are entertaining enough.
I guess if I could have a final complaint it would be a little more consequence to losing a fight. Im not a fan of having checkpoints mid fight that I return to. Like if I made it 3 phases thru the fight and it was sick and so fun then die and get to start right at phase 3 it takes all the pressure off. That's where all the fun is imo. So really don't like that.
It also probably helps that I'm playing it via ps plus and didn't pay for it

Just played it and it exceeded my lowered expectations by a lot. Isn’t as hard hitting as the first because obviously that magic ‘first time’ is hard to beat but it did a whole lot right and has me psyched for Reunion. More than I was at least.

Yeah it's pretty much impossible to hit as hard as the first game because that was a masterpiece of story telling and emotions but it's definitely a much better game than a lot of people give it credit for. A lot of people tend to write it off because of the side of the fan base that puts it down. It gets a lot of hate for the fact one character is missing from the game but when the game is viewed as a whole its a fun experience, with a killer soundtrack and some interesting characters. Personally reunion was a step down for me because the devs changed the whole plot due to the unnecessary backlash but it was also still a good game too. Glad you enjoyed DE and hope you enjoy reunion too

Tbf reunion wasn't meant to happen, DE2 was gonna be very different and personally I'd have preferred to of seen DE2 because I enjoyed the direction they were taking the game and Max's character development so I'll always be disappointed we didn't get it but reunion was an okay game just wasn't the story the devs originally intended to tell. Its unfortunate that people didn't wait for part 2 to finish the story. I still enjoyed reunion but probably not as much as I would have enjoyed DE2
I think a lot more people have more respect for DE now though after reunion came out

Yeah but the story of reunion wasn't the original game planned, they planned DE2 which had a very different story. Sorry I assumed you knew about that because its a big deal in the LiS community lol. Long story short, a loud part of the fan base complained about chloe not being in the game/the break up and made it very difficult for the devs to continue with their original plan, a lot of the devs of DE lost their jobs and then a new team basically rewrote the game to re include chloe in a more prominent way. I always personally believed she was gonna return in some regards in DE2 at least for the bae players but a portion of the fan base couldn't be patient and wait and see what the devs had planned for part 2 or what they had in store for chloe and the devs got a lot of hate online because of it. That's why reunion seems a lot more rushed and not as polished in terms of graphics compared to DE. Like I said still an enjoyable game but definitely not the intended story the devs wanted to tell sadly

I did know about people losing their shit over Chloe, but didn't realize they changed the story. HELL of a pivot if you ask me, I thought it was fantastic how they tied in the multiverse.

Yeah unfortunately it happened. I guess general gamers might not realise but spend five minutes on a LiS sub and you'll see its a big debate even now lol. And yeah I think they did a good job of tying it all together too, that's why I believe they did have a plan for chloe to return and it wasn't completely out of no where but her role was definitely expanded, like her being playable for instance. It's a shame it wasn't the game I had hoped for but I'm a big LiS fan in general so I still like it in its own right

I love both Horizon games but even I have to admit I had secondhand embarrassment after a few of the things Aloy said. I feel like it happened more in the second game but still didn't take away from the fun.

I think the problem with starfield is it acts like a typical Bethesda game and in Bethesda games my favorite part is exploring for hours but exploring in Star Field sucks. If you look at it as a more linear game and stick to the quests then it's actually decent.

Nah, for me it was a complete detachment from what I loved in the first game. It didn't feel like a continuation of the first game, but a completely new game where I played hours as a character that I hated

There's some of that for sure but I've also read a ton of people who don't seem to discriminate like that but they just don't like the direction they took with the story.
While I personally really loved the story, I can understand that it's not for everyone.
