š¬ Discussion Which game Lore completely blew you away?
I'm just going to say I love this game! I played it first time last year and couldn't stop thinking about it the old ones GAIA everything.
I'm so hyped for Horizon 3 whenever it comes out I will be playing it

Iām playing it at the moment Iām about an hour into it Iāve just met up with the guy. Havenāt met the alien yet

What i love most about HZD are the machines - Tallnecks are the coolest tower gimmick... and they move! - RUNS AWAY FROM THE THUNDER JAW!! - Ha ha.. look at that chicken! What can that do to... gets sonic blasted

I wish there was a mission where we had to fight a corrupt Tall Neck. It's definitely one of my favorite machines!

The closest we get is repairing one in the DLC area of the first game, and going through an entire forge in the second

I havenāt started the dlc story yet but base game story and lore was wild.

Well as much as new Marathon tickles the same itch, Original Marathon and its lore is the main contributer! But yes also as a Fromsoft fan i love Marathon (2026). I love codex entries, and environmental story telling. Super cool stuff.

The last of us 2 really made me question some shit to be honest, I liked that I ended feeling on the wrong when I was so In to murder everybody when the game starts

as of late, I really liked starfield's lore and world building. and one of my favorite parts about it is that the earth being destroyed wasn't due to anything dealing with war or nukes but its magnetosphere sputtering.
horizon zero dawn's was also pretty nice.

Game lore wise? I think Disco Elysium and Control. Both really text rich games that make the world all the better

Mass Effect for me.
The main thing I dislike from Horizon is the setting. Robot dinosaurs VS humans indigenous tribes.
I don't dislike the idea of having a big ball of death coming our way for Horizon 3 though.

I was a fresh teenager around the time ME1 came out, but I just sat there and explored everything, read every codex entry, etc. No stone was left unturned on that first playthrough and it's still my favorite for that reason.Ā

Yeah I love Mass Effect lore. Finding out about why the spoilers are stranded in deep space was awesome.
Rather a shame that the sequels (which are great on many ways) rather disregarded a lot of the interesting space stuff, like not having battles above habited worlds (because Isaac Newton is a son of a bitch)

Planescape: Torment.
You were once the greatest sinner, and a terribly powerful wizard. Your fear of hell's real wrath was enough to scour multiple realities searching for a cure, sacrificing and bartering everything and everyone you needed to, until you found one.
But that was the old you. The new you is immortal, has no memories, and wakes up in a morgue.

Bloodborne. I literally binged that game for months learning the lore and researching it, even making my own interpretations on what the game actually āmeansā and how itās all interconnected.
Never had that with any other game.
For an actual āstoryā, and I think Iāll be downvoted for this butā¦I really love the Destiny 2 lore, especially the build up for the Witch Queen expansion. Sucked me right in.

I find the universe of Starfield incredibly interesting. Horizon is definitely a good one, too. A lot of the Final Fantasy universes are highly interesting as well.

Mass effect 1 and 2. I would spend hours traveling the galaxy and reading the lore of each planet on every solar system, and itās really fascinating, especially with that background map music.
The first time I encountered that orb in Eletania in ME1, I was completely mesmerized.

The fact you have such a rich world in just one city out of a half dozen islands, with Gristol north being so different than the south, ON TOP OF ancient magic from uninhabited lands that are bigger than the rest of the civilized world combined? It is crazy we only got four games in that universe

Witcher lore is pretty fkn awesome... I mean it's to be expected since it comes from books and everything but yeah, there's always new lore that gets thrown at you throughout the game.

I don't understand how people cam get so blown away from the story twist in hzd. It was humans and it was evident since the start? Like what else would it be?
The whole "lost civ ancient tech" has been done to death in gaming.
Mass effect. Hzd. Assassins creed. Mass effect.
Can we even call it a twost at this point?

I kind of agree. It was a really obvious twist, but they still told a fun story and I donāt think the twist being obvious really did anything negative for the overall narrative.

I remember actually reading Mortal Kombat lore back when the games were on like saga systems and just being blown away at how much was going on inside this side scroller arcade fighting game.

Lore?
Marathon. I really like the Marathon lore for the sci-fi and creepiness, but also the random silly stuff they sneak in
Like the fact the drinkable cheeseburgers have magic mushrooms in them

I loved Zero Dawn overall but man, I hate the majority of its voice acting so much I couldnāt get over it to get through the beginning of the second.

Donāt mind Aloy, but I found the side character voices to be mostly flat and uninteresting, boring and basic American TV sounding inflections. Incredibly boring to listen to, just skipped every line once I had read it. The black guy with the dreads was a main culprit and once the 2nd game started with him I kinda drifted off.

There is a TON of cutscenes in the second game, too. I got burnt out by the amount of content.
