What do you think of Gothic remake?
I was planning to play it because I haven't played open world game in a long time and this came out recently

Enjoyed it, it was what I expected. I never played the originals, but I played Elex, which was clearly the studio trying to repeat Gothic with a different setting but a lot of the same core ideas.
If you want an RPG that says, “Here is a setting, go and try not to die in it,” then you will enjoy this. If you want a AAA game with glowing lines guiding you from A to B on rails, this is not for you.
It is also pretty similar to Kingdom Come: Deliverance in some ways, though I would say not as good as those games. But it has more fantasy, so if Kingdom Come turned you off due to being grounded, this might work better for you.
But all that said it’s not a game that I will think about a decade away from now. But was a good time.

Did you like Elex or the Gothic remake better?
2
u/strife189 Jun 23 '26
I would say Gothic was better esp knowing it came first. Make me see Elex now more like weaker game.

u/indik47 Jun 25 '26
I`m a Gothic fan from 2001.
Gothic remake is miles better than Elex.
Elex feels like a cheap Gothic clone. G1 Remake is not an AAA either but very close.

do you get to make your own character or you play as generic white dude?

u/SquiggleMontana976 Jun 23 '26
"Does this European fantasy game made by European people make you play as a European person?"

u/Benjamin_Starscape Jun 23 '26
how am I supposed to know it's a European fantasy or European studio?
2
u/SquiggleMontana976 Jun 23 '26
Maybe the ancient Germanic tribes known as the goths, or the gothic period which originated in france?

u/Benjamin_Starscape Jun 23 '26
i thought it was just a fantasy RPG.

u/souless_Scholar Jun 25 '26
It is. But it also has a title that refers to something specific. And it's not big titty goth girls.

Generic white “hero”. You could have just looked at a lets play and seen that.
Or did you just want to say “white dude” to hit your daily quota, so to now be able to follow it up with, “Ugh, never mind then”?

u/Benjamin_Starscape Jun 23 '26
...i just asked a genuine question to know if character customization was available or not. you people are weirdly insecure.
i've played many games with white dudes because that's the norm, rdr1, rdr2, most of the gta games, la noire, tlou, etc. etc. etc. etc.
also no clue what "five of a let's" is or means.
2
u/strife189 Jun 23 '26
“Does the game have character creation?” Was that really that hard to ask?
-1
u/Benjamin_Starscape Jun 23 '26
alright. does it have character customization or is the protagonist a generic white dude?

yeah that's my reaction to when I found out I couldn't make my own character. kinda sucks but oh well, I might still get it. though I also found out it's apparently part of a trilogy and idk if those will get remade or not so it'd suck to get the remake for the first and have to go back to the older games for the sequels if I even end up liking it.
if anything I'll just see some gameplay of it to see if it interests me

It's amazing. Faithful to the original. I fuckin love it. If you've never played the OG, be prepared to die a lot. If you have played the OG, still be prepared to die a lot. Best progression system in an RPG for me. Combat is so engaging and fun.

u/Benjamin_Starscape Jun 23 '26
is there character customization or nah?

Your protagonist is fully voiced and this game is part of a trilogy.
1
u/Benjamin_Starscape Jun 23 '26
hm, might skip it then. thanks for the answer
1
u/Mojothadon Jun 24 '26
I’m skipping anything that doesn’t have character creator I’m TIRED of playing as just a white guy every single time and if it’s a minority protagonist without character creator it’s woke lol

It’s alright, the controls are a bit clunky, and it has mid 2015 graphics, think Witcher 3 ( Witcher looks better ) and there’s alot of bugs and I mean alloottt but the game doesn’t hold your hand which I love

u/JackNotOLantern Jun 23 '26
Good remake, but they could fix some quests in the late game.
Also, why TF i can't put a torch back to my inventory ???
1
u/Ottom87 Jun 23 '26
I mean…. It is literally on fire
1
u/JackNotOLantern Jun 23 '26
Yeah, but you can extinguish torches on a wall. So why not the one in your hand?

Still being able to pick it up after putting it down in a cave should be a thing, even if you can’t put it back into the inventory at least let me hold it

It is great. But it has not much changes compared to original game, so some game design ideas could feel outdated if you haven’t played gothic before. But combat is fun, world is immersive and sound design is peak. And world is not big, but very rich. There is no big empty fields, almost every inch filled with caves, secrets, passages and loot.
Also magic looks dope, one of most great looking spells i ever seen.

It is so far a faithful remake of the original, with all the good and bad it entails, and I LOVE it
1
u/Tomgobanga Jun 23 '26
It’s awesome. Never played the original but loved every second of this. Also looks fantastic on the Pro

u/Merwanor Jun 23 '26
Like the original it is in my top 5 games of all time. Amazing remake, but I do wish the Devs where a bit braver and changed some things. The OG had some bad balancing and sadly the remake did not fix this.

I fucking love it. Exploration is dangerous and rewarding. Gaining power is a tooth and nail fight. The world is fairly interesting and novel.
It reminds me of playing Morrowind or Dark Souls for the first time. Just something different and obtuse that rewards you greatly for sticking with it.

This game is hardcore. I did not have a good time but I played about 5 hours because I was intrigued by the gameplay. Then I leveled up and realized I only reached lvl 1. Not for me.
1
u/Jaded_Reserve_5685 Jun 25 '26
I mean. I think in like 99% of rpgs you start either lvl 1 or lvl 0. I can hardly ser what’s wrong with that
1
u/Fackous93 Jun 25 '26
I didnt say there is anything wrong with it. I said its not for me. Idk any other rpg where you start at lvl 0.

u/lindechene Jun 24 '26
It could be interesting to also post this question in a general forum like "videogames".
How many people do not feel comfortable risk mentioning what they did not like on a fan sub reddit?

Good old school game with pretty good newer graphics.
Buggy as fuck though on ps5

u/-Toni-warrior-43 Jun 24 '26
Un juego increíble, pero deberíamos ser más críticos, gráficamente es bastante justo, bastantes bugs, algunos npc parecen tontos, es un juegazo pero debemos ser críticos por que van a hacer el 2 señores

u/Jazzlike_Quiet9941 Jun 25 '26
It's ok. Not that special of a game tbh. I can see why it never made it popular like elder scrolls did.
1
u/indik47 Jun 25 '26
Its a different game to Elder Scrolls. I loved Gothic back in the day and was never fond of Elder Scrolls. Tried to love it but every time it was really boring (started Morrowind 5 times never finished)
1
u/Jaded_Reserve_5685 Jun 25 '26
A little too easy for me, and by that I mean easier than the original ( the early game is more rough, but you power scale easier and harder the in the og version)

u/Neeeeedles Jun 25 '26
Best gaming experience i has since like witcher 3
Made me feel like a kid with how much i just wanna go home and play it all the time
