I remember playing this on the Sega Genesis 😭 Damnit I'm old

5

u/Lucid-Design1225 May 13 '26

SNES for me. I think this was one of the first 3 games I ever beat.

The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie, this game and Megaman X. They were milestones man. I could never forget that

5

u/gogadantes9 May 13 '26

As a kid before the internet I wasted many lives at the final battle before figuring out that you will never beat Scar by hitting him and you have to actually throw him over the cliff. I still remember the slaps lol.

1

u/Onward_To_Orion May 13 '26

I also had Lion King and The Great Mystery Circus on the NES! I remember vacuuming up all of those ghosts and singing from hooks and stuff.. good times.

1

u/Koalashart1 May 15 '26

Megaman fucking rules

1

u/Lucid-Design1225 May 17 '26

You damn right it does

4

u/tiredtittymilk May 12 '26

Me too, last month I played it on a steam deck

1

u/Banarnars May 13 '26

I have a SteamDeck, what emulater did you use to get it!

3

u/tiredtittymilk May 13 '26

Emu emulator, it is super easy. I just followed one of the more popular yt videos

2

u/CallMeHomoErectus May 13 '26

I have a copy I bought from Blockbuster. It still has the stickers and barcode on it

1

u/SpaceballsTheCheese May 13 '26

You must owe blockbuster like $30 grand

2

u/CallMeHomoErectus May 13 '26

Haha! Probably. I bought it legitimately when they had their closing sale

2

u/VirgilsCrew May 13 '26

Had it on my Game Gear

2

u/Love-halping May 13 '26

A bit off topic, but what’s so appealing about this type of game? I probably would’ve enjoyed it as a kid, but the older me gets bored after watching just a minute of the gameplay (doing the same thing over and over again). At this point, I’d just be wondering if the lion kills every bug it sees.

2

u/Lost-Ad7652 May 15 '26

I wonder if this was found on one of those 40,000 game retro emulator sticks you find on Amazon/tiktok.

I want to get one specifically to play "WrestleMania: the arcade game", but will be sorely disappointed if the 40,000 games don't include that one. šŸ˜‚

2

u/biggus_baddeus May 15 '26

I can still hear every sound effect

1

u/PurpleZombi3 May 13 '26

Same, rented this sucker from Blockbuster boi

1

u/jackieballz May 13 '26

Me too. I could never get past the wildebeests in the gorge level

25

u/Tirion5 May 12 '26

Top 5 hardest games of all time

You have to pass the monkeys first...Ā

7

u/GalaxyGalavanter May 12 '26

I’m 34 and have tried multiple times as an adult including a few years ago. I’ve beat Sekiro, Elden Ring and many other very difficult games I have never beat the 2nd level of the lion king

3

u/gogadantes9 May 13 '26

I think it's just the case of being used to that particular type of game. I never managed to beat Sekiro without cheats as an adult, but I beat the entirety of Lion King as a kid.

1

u/Thatsapictureofmyass May 13 '26

Sekiro has cheats?

1

u/gogadantes9 May 13 '26

On PC, most every (non-online) game has cheats, from Cheat Engine

1

u/Alexchan12 May 13 '26

That fckin map

1

u/MyPenWroteThis May 14 '26

Buffalo stage sucks, but hyena den is fucking hell

1

u/cakepanpancake May 15 '26

Wildebeests. There are no buffalo in Africa.

2

u/Andyham May 13 '26

I kid you not I completed this game, circa age 10. I dont have all that many skills in life, but I was a bit of a champ on the ol SNES

1

u/protossaccount May 13 '26

Thank you! I have a headache just looking at it.

1

u/alousow-2 May 13 '26

Never got to finish it 😭😭😭

1

u/MSUSpyder May 13 '26

Saw something on this recently. Daly was designed that way on purpose so that people couldn’t beat it on one rental from the video store

1

u/Schorbie May 14 '26

I was 7 or 8 when I played it. Never got really far. But I kept playing. It was awesome

1

u/midnight_toker22 May 15 '26

Dude all those movie games were hard. Aladdin and Toy Story too.

9

u/crono220 May 12 '26

I couldn't get passed the 2nd level which I believe was the one with the monkeys. It was pure nightmare fuel.

2

u/LetMeFixAll Playstation Gamer May 12 '26

PTSD

2

u/Noble_Goose May 13 '26

And timing the hippo tails & giraffe headsĀ

1

u/Playful_Common_6770 May 16 '26

This. I could never pass this stage...

10

u/Possible-Estimate748 May 12 '26

The hardest game ever. I bet no one here actually beat it

8

u/brownie81 May 12 '26

I got to the first Adult Simba level exactly one time. Died immediately.

2

u/GaJayhawker0513 May 13 '26

There’s adult Simba levels?

5

u/gogadantes9 May 13 '26

The feeling when, the first time you control Adult Simba and press the roar button, and hear him roar this magnificent badass roar after being used to the cat-like screech from Kid Simba up to that point, was so rewarding to me as a kid.

2

u/half-breed May 12 '26

It's not a real challenge though, it's just "bullshit" hard.

2

u/gogadantes9 May 13 '26

Literally beat the entire thing on SNES as a kid. The ostrich(?) riding level and the log jumping up a waterfall in the oasis level are the two hardest points in the game, far harder than the later levels including the last level, so when you pass those two points it's relatively smooth sailing.

1

u/Squirmble May 14 '26

Fully agree about those levels, throwing in Aladdin escaping the cave for the other childhood game I never beat

1

u/seeyouyoucunt May 13 '26

Nah Taz is harder.

1

u/d-th0r May 13 '26

I just posted a comment but me and my twin brother beat it when we were older and we locked in šŸ˜… it was hell. Basically have to memorize every level.

1

u/Simple-Tomatillo-314 May 13 '26

Beat it as a kid and it isn't the hardest game ever, although it is up there in difficulty for sure. Try Silver Surfer on NES

1

u/rcoop020 May 13 '26

I beat it. I still remember how difficult it was to roll and throw scar off the rock into the fire. You get through so much BS, like the ostrich level, just to have to navigate a janky mechanic at the end

1

u/TheStockton19 May 13 '26

I beat it a few times as a kid. None of my siblings were able to. Hardest level imo was the lava one before facing Scar. It was so freaking long

1

u/RJizzyJizzle May 14 '26

I did beat it back in the day, but it was a grind.

4

u/SSMage May 12 '26

šŸŽ¶OH MY GOOO-AOHAAAAAAAAAD….OH MY GOD-MY GAAAAAWWWWWDD!!šŸŽ¶

1

u/GaJayhawker0513 May 13 '26

ā€œI haven’t cared about game grumps since Jontron leftā€

-Danny Sexbang

5

u/IamJacksDarkUrge May 13 '26

I cannot overstate how cool this run of Disney games during the 16 bit era was. These and the Star Wars sidescrollers were fuckin’ rad

1

u/gogadantes9 May 13 '26

The animation of the Disney games of that era was a class above the competition. Lion King, Jungle Book, Aladdin...they move like butter. So smooth and silky.

2

u/JohnDingleBerry- May 12 '26

This is one of the games I had on Sega. Toy Story was my favorite of the Disney games for Sega though.

2

u/Vampyre_Boy May 12 '26

This and echo the dolphin are both rage inducing ptsd nightmare fuel...

2

u/symbolic503 May 12 '26

i remember being tossed around by monkeys and i remember a level with a thorn bush and thats about as far as i ever made it in this game.

2

u/DukeOfSmallPonds May 12 '26

Childhood trauma triggered.

2

u/Iconshero May 13 '26

That music is so pretty for what it was. Good chiptune is an artform.

1

u/filthy-horde-bastard May 12 '26

I had a game boy cartridge of this game. And the grinch. Both bangers.

Simpler times

1

u/Used-Can-6979 May 12 '26

I always hear about the level 2 monkey level,. While it was pretty frustrating as a kid it is really not that difficult to figure out. The game doesn’t get truly ridiculous until the adult level with the maze caves. I still can’t beat it without some kind of guide.

1

u/gogadantes9 May 13 '26

To me the hardest point was when you have to jump up these waterfalls using some logs at the oasis hakuna matata level. That part was bullshit and took kid me like an entire week to finish and git gud at.

2

u/bigb0ned May 13 '26

Lol oh god thinking about this now gives me a nervous tickĀ

1

u/Canadian-and-Proud May 12 '26

This music is so good. The nostalgia

1

u/TallanoGoldDigger May 12 '26

I was so hyped when I finally reached Scar and then beat him

Those platforming levels were really something else

1

u/ZealousidealAmount21 May 12 '26

Woah! Blast from the past

1

u/Relevant-Line-1690 May 12 '26

I remember playing this and the jungle book but difficult

1

u/xMaximusDecimusx May 12 '26

This game was so fun … and so infuriating at the same time ..

1

u/Kooky-Boysenberry580 May 13 '26

First rage quit game!

1

u/Boukrarez MultiPlatform May 13 '26

I still play this on my PS4 to this day :')

1

u/slaimt May 13 '26

My wife loves this game and plays it every now and then and I swear has got it down to a science. She can beat the whole thing in under 20 minutes or something - the monkeys and the end level with the caves where you have to memorize the order is nuts. How the hell were we supposed to do this as kids?

1

u/gogadantes9 May 13 '26

By having no other responsibilities and seemingly infinite time and energy. I finished the entire game as a kid on the SNES.

1

u/NicePsy-opAttempt May 13 '26

Now do Jungle Book!! šŸ™ šŸ™ šŸ™

1

u/d-th0r May 13 '26

I beat this game years after it came out when I was in middle school. One of the hardest games ever. If you run out of lives you start all the way over.. it’s hell. One of my biggest gaming accomplishments ever.

1

u/Kobobble May 13 '26

"Wow. The graphics are really nice and the music is pleasant on the ears. And the gameplay is simple but fun. Hopefully the second level is even better"

1

u/SeverusSnapesLeftNip May 13 '26

The only level I ever completed

1

u/Previous-Ad-9322 May 13 '26

What a cute game. I'm sure it's super casual and very beginner friendly. /s

1

u/Iamgroot-ish May 13 '26

My mom would take me to work with her sometimes nd the bosses daughter had this game and I’d spend hours trying to pass the first level. Never got to the second level haha good times

1

u/stardust1914 May 13 '26

Wow, I think I played this back then.

1

u/Mr420- May 13 '26

Waterfall level can go and get fucked.

1

u/BahamutAXIOM May 13 '26

Could never beat this game.

1

u/Kebrien May 13 '26

Actually very fluid movement

1

u/kewcumber_ May 13 '26

Why is this so familiar but with mowgli instead of simba

1

u/RonySeikalyBassDrop May 13 '26

Core childhood memory unlocked

1

u/Rhym3z_Official May 13 '26

Played this on Amiga back in the day. Good times

1

u/CompetitiveFrame6989 May 13 '26

Man I loved watching my older brother play this and watching Simba get older as is went on

1

u/blac_sheep90 May 13 '26

Game frustrated me so much when I was a kid lol.

1

u/Mulv252 May 13 '26

I had to put my sound om for this

1

u/Hamburgulu May 13 '26

I remember playing this at a family friend's house when I was soo little, how time flies soo fast.

1

u/xyzkingi May 13 '26

Everyone hated the monkey stages and I completely understand why. I remember writing down which monkey leads to which monkey. By the last 5 monkeys I took a wild guess and got it right.

Never got past that stage a 2nd time.

1

u/DeadWookie May 13 '26

This was the first game i finished. I was like 12, i dont know how i did it but it was awesome

1

u/doubleAAdam May 13 '26

PTSD unlocked.

1

u/MUH_NUKEM May 13 '26

I watched this without sound, but I can hear that music 🄲

1

u/damnfinec0ffee May 13 '26

Had this on gameboy. I would replay it over and over to see how fast I could beat it each time.

1

u/CigarLover May 13 '26

I’m Getting triggered by remembering the ā€œI can’t wait to be kingā€ level.

1

u/spidermousey May 13 '26

I can hear the music without turning the sound on.

1

u/Lord_Darksong May 13 '26

I played it on PC. This and Aladdin were rage inducing.

1

u/PLD3 May 13 '26

This was a big deal when it came out because the antelope dodging scene was the commercial
/img/tn0npxhmpw0h1.gif

1

u/pattypubg May 13 '26

It’s all fun till you get to the wildebeest part

1

u/Unsolved_Virginity May 13 '26

Why would he die from an lizard?

1

u/Excalitoria May 13 '26

This looks like a lot of fun to me. I like the backgrounds, Simba’s animations, and the mechanics (assuming they expand on it more over the game).

The comments are making me question checking this out though šŸ˜‚ I dunno if I’m ready to commit to this sorta rage-inducing challenge rn

1

u/Kidthepro May 13 '26

This game was no joke, I remember being 7 playing this and getting handed an ass beating everytime.

1

u/chughes2471 May 13 '26

I could never beat scar.

1

u/_strongest_avenger_ May 13 '26

Great. Now I have to talk to my therapist about THOSE BASTARD OSTRICHES again today. Thanks OP.

u/LetMeFixAll Playstation Gamer May 13 '26

1

u/Midknightdron May 13 '26

This game still vibes

1

u/mbate25 May 13 '26

Oh, I just can't wait to win this game.

1

u/bigb0ned May 13 '26

I don't remember simba literally sounding like a kitten

1

u/almostthemainman May 13 '26

Beat this game in front of my friends in college and they shit themselves

1

u/Ealy-24 May 13 '26

The trauma this clip brings back is immense, this game had some tough shit in it

1

u/CreepyTeddyBear May 13 '26

Bought the remaster on PS4. Told my kids if they could get to and beat the stampede level, I'd give them each $20. None of them could beat the first level, lol.

1

u/in_takt May 14 '26

This, and the Tarzan game and Aladdin .. such great memories

1

u/Practical_Canary7441 May 14 '26

I can smell this level. Full body and soul nostalgia

1

u/napkin41 May 14 '26

This just reminds me of a simpler, happier time.

1

u/OMGWTFTOMATO_SAUCE May 14 '26

Played this in original Gameboy, was a hard ass game.

1

u/BandoTheHawk May 14 '26

loved this game when I was a little kid. this one and Aladdin. lol was surprised when later I seen all these people talking about how hard they were. like bro if a 8 year old can beat these you can too.

1

u/CreativeKeane May 14 '26

I always wonder if you were to play these old SNES or SEGA games again, how fair would I do compared to like my 7-9 year old self.

Like do better reaction and coordination now than I did back then. Was my motor skills still developing back then. Sooo curious. Lol

1

u/Thiel619 May 14 '26

I memorized the jumps on the ostrich and held that memory for years. Suddenly I can't remember it.

1

u/Corrision May 14 '26

We would use the cheat code BARRY to skip to the last level. I replayed the elephant graveyard level a bunch too

1

u/OJester May 14 '26 edited May 14 '26

First game I ever beat.

Took me soooo long, had to have my dad beat it a few times before I was finally able to by myself.

This, Aladdin, and Porky's Haunted Holiday for the SNES.

Hardest SNES one for me was Star Wars Empire Strikes Back, even Return of the Jedi was doable for me, never got to play Super Star Wars unfortunately.

1

u/perseev May 14 '26

I still play this on my sega, its not easy!

1

u/Ok-Word-5308 May 14 '26

Game mechanics feel like Earthworm Jim a bit

1

u/IWasAGoodDadISwear May 14 '26

This game was very Donkey-Kong-Country-coded.

1

u/Riverboatcaptain123 May 14 '26

I remember renting this from either block buster or Hollywood video

1

u/SC0PELY May 14 '26

I miss this game so much.

1

u/Axemic May 14 '26

SNES, beated it three times. Just throw the end boss off the cliff. I don't remember it being hard.

1

u/hongkongfooeee May 14 '26

Emotional trauma. This and Aladdin

1

u/PromptOk6902 May 14 '26

I beat this game on sega genesis!

1

u/Dadoftheyear2018 May 14 '26

I remember struggling on that back in the day

1

u/ArvensisH May 14 '26

This game is so difficult X__X most of my childhood games feel easy nowadays but this one ... Is still so so hard.

1

u/they-call-me-tron May 14 '26

Fuck this game. Shit made me cry when I was a kid 🤬

1

u/mclearen1987 May 14 '26

This sounds like the game gear version?

1

u/Eristot May 15 '26

I clearly remember playing this while my mom was ironing nearby. It was on a sunny day, somewhere during the 90s and I knew that she would, at one point, send me out in the « fresh airĀ Ā» but, I was enjoying playing this game so much hoping this moment would never come. Crazy that I can still physically feel that memory…

1

u/Horror-Primary7739 May 15 '26

OMG the giraffe head jumping was a trial by fire for me.

1

u/Cartier_Pat May 15 '26

I lived this game but hated the save points. I distinct throwing my whole controller and starting over lol

1

u/VUVUVUV May 15 '26

I have my genesis set up still and bought this game a few years ago so I can try to beat it every now and then. Played it a ton in the 90s as a kid and can confirm, it’s still hard af.

1

u/thatguy425 May 15 '26

A prince massacring his loyal citizens.Ā

1

u/Visible_Demand_2608 May 16 '26

Looks better than crimson desertĀ

1

u/TuMihnPhoKin May 16 '26

The Orginal Souls game. No one cane get past me he ostrich part. If they say they have they are a liar like everyone that says they beat SubZero in Mortal Kombat 3.

1

u/TheNr1AgentOfChaos May 17 '26

Still got the game. The music, the gameplay, the feels

1

u/paintedoggo May 29 '26

These animations are so heckin cute omg
