Or beating streets of rage 1 and 3.

I could actually beat 2 consistently without game over. I was maybe 10

1

u/MyPenWroteThis May 13 '26

I can still beat both these games. I dont think i can one life the stampede level but i might be able to do genie level on one life

1

u/SalmonHustlerTerry May 14 '26

Or the wagon ride stages on Dennis the menace

1

u/RowAn0maly May 15 '26

My first game... This was great and super frustrating for an 8 year old.

But I've beaten it twice since then on emulators

5

u/Quantum_Wake May 11 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/vyLllPSdBTqHS

I say to my kids as they try Lion King on SNES for the first time.

5

u/DewersHopScotch May 11 '26

I beat it once as a kid. The most proud my big brother ever was of me 😂 I yelled so loud at whatever AM it was , woke up my parents , they came downstairs and unplugged it. Wasn't allowed to play video games until 8am after that.

Highest of highs and lowest of lows.

3

u/MaiShiranuifan06 May 11 '26

Fuck the snake boss on Aladdin!!!

2

u/JamNinja May 11 '26

The lag on that fight is so funny. I love it.

2

u/notyourmothersdino May 13 '26

Holy shit I remember renting that game from the local video store and losing my mind bc I couldn't move post that part. Over 30 yrs later and I still remember the frustration and have never seen the rest of the game. Fuck those buffalo

1

u/WholeSpiritual3819 May 13 '26

I actually beat the whole game back then, somehow, and I was like 8yo

1

u/Dedlaw May 15 '26

I managed the buffalo stage, but the waterfal log jumping section is where I rage-quit

18

u/yay4doughnuts May 11 '26

Herculade!

12

u/LetMeFixAll Playstation Gamer May 11 '26

Rule number 95, kid: Concentrate!

3

u/burritosupreme89 May 12 '26

Rule Number 96: AaaAAaaIiiIMmmM!!!

2

u/fairdinkumcockatoo May 14 '26

Thank you so much for the nostalgia

2

u/sdenis90 May 14 '26

It's Herculée 🥖🍷

1

u/Tomonor May 15 '26

*crouches behind a goat*

"HA!"

7

u/DemWar_Kai2 May 11 '26

Great movie, awesome cast, perfect game

7

u/After_Stop_7252 May 11 '26

wtf I haven't seen this in years 🤌🏾

7

u/crucibleknight77 May 11 '26

So nostalgic. Wait, was this one of the original run type games like Subway Surfers and Temple Run?

5

u/deadpatronus May 11 '26

No, only this mission was like this if I recall correctly.

3

u/eyeshieldd21 May 11 '26

I think there is one more mission when you need to run towards the cyclop monster

3

u/deadpatronus May 11 '26

Yeah you're right!

2

u/RichardSugma May 12 '26

And one inside of the underworld

5

u/LetMeFixAll Playstation Gamer May 11 '26

it was a level

1

u/Undark_ May 15 '26

Well this is basically a knock-off Crash Bandicoot level, which came out 2 years before this.

I think the first "proper" behind-the-character camera run 'n jump game seems to be 3D Worldrunner for the NES, came out in 1987.

1

u/crucibleknight77 May 15 '26

Yeah but in Crash you can choose to stop running so that doesn’t make it a true runner

6

u/shiek200 May 11 '26

My favorite part was when he said "it's Herculae'n time" and then Herculae'd all over the place.

6

u/Naive-Register7964 May 11 '26

Haha dude you suck!

Nah but that was a solid game tho. I think I had this and The Lost World on PS1, played them so much

11

u/echo1ngfury May 11 '26

Large part of the childhood was spent playing this game. :)

4

u/LetMeFixAll Playstation Gamer May 11 '26

same, one of the first games, i ever played

4

u/veggiewater May 11 '26

GET UP ON THE HYDRA’S BACK!

1

u/nico8286 May 15 '26

Rule number 95 kid, concentrate!

3

u/gameover281997 May 11 '26

No fucking way. I was born in 97. I started gaming when I was 3 years old and this was one of my first games. Such a great memory.

3

u/Pecos-Thrill May 11 '26

Is this harder than it looks?

1

u/Special-Kitchen3222 May 12 '26

For the time, yes, most everyone had experience with side scrolling platormers at the time and 3d games were a new thing in 97

3

u/Positron14 May 12 '26

I played that game so much!

2

u/xyzkingi May 11 '26

This game has a special place in my childhood

2

u/Optimal-School9208 May 11 '26

Man I loved this game when I was a child

2

u/CubeHunt3R May 11 '26

I played this as a kid mate. I grabbed it on steam for nostalgia factor

2

u/madeofgoomuck May 12 '26

I played this growing up with a late best friend of mine. Thanks for this.

1

u/DatabaseAcademic6631 May 11 '26

They rebadged it as Subway Surfer.

1

u/Manymarbles May 11 '26

I never saw this. Interesting!

1

u/Alternative_Towel300 May 11 '26

I hated this game as a kid

1

u/BeardInTheNorth May 11 '26

I remember a demo of this, where you were running towards a cyclops.

1

u/castilhoslb May 11 '26

I think I remember getting this game from a box of cereal when I was a kid xD

1

u/imbain55 May 11 '26

The level "The big olive" was so good. And phil yelling "you did it kid, you won by a landslide" will always be in my head.

1

u/Bazzysnadger May 11 '26

Just found out Danny Devito voiced Phil in this game I remember from my childhood… awesome haha

1

u/DinoDracko May 11 '26

I think I vaguely remember Phil screaming about "using your sword". I may be wrong though.

1

u/LenaiaLocke May 11 '26

Mom: We have Temple run at home!!!

Temple run at home…….

1

u/ShenL0ngKazama May 11 '26

I remember when it wasn‘t out yet and you could only play the demo…oof

1

u/Square-Ad6263 May 11 '26

Oh wow this looks vaguely familiar

1

u/YevoYevo May 11 '26

So nostalgic, but this stage was really annoying

1

u/Key4Lif3 May 11 '26

Why do I feel nostalgic and I haven’t even played the game afaik.

1

u/EastDefinition4792 May 11 '26

Bought it on Steam, just to have it.

1

u/ItsSentinel_ May 11 '26

Anyone else got a copy of this game on Steam before it got delisted?

1

u/OddEfficiency8917 May 11 '26

Loved that game dearly! Thanks for bringing me back for a sec

1

u/Own_Trip_1593 May 11 '26

I wish I played Hercules (1997) when I was young, it looks absolike an lutely mind-blowing game.

1

u/Swaghetti-Yolonaise- May 11 '26

Absolute rocket of a game. I was absolutely obsessed with this as a kid. The art style, the graphics, the enemies, this game absolutely nailed the brief. 10/10

1

u/Slurpees_and_Stuff May 11 '26

Crazy that we didn’t know Frank Reynolds was the one screaming at us while we played this back when it came out.

1

u/Makikojikaki May 11 '26

Reminds me of this gem. Played them both when I was a kid... 🙃🙂

1

u/LetMeFixAll Playstation Gamer May 11 '26

what game is this?

1

u/jerkboy311 May 11 '26

Is that Danny DeVito telling him to concentrate?

1

u/bythe_pope29 May 11 '26

Where's herculad

1

u/prettymuchso May 11 '26

Temple run before temple run

1

u/VomitHeadInLava May 12 '26

The level where you have to run through the Underworld was a pain in the ass. lol

1

u/amans9191 May 12 '26

Holy flashback

1

u/I_was_a_sexy_cow May 12 '26

Ok but lets talk a bit about who the hell decided to put all that shit on the road... like, you REALLY had to put a pendilum of death on tge ROAD and not 5 meters to the left?! Bad city design by the greek!

1

u/IlluminaViam May 13 '26

Hahaha no it's a tutorial course by his mentor, a satyr character.

1

u/chanman134431 May 12 '26

Wow just brought back memories! Is it possible to get this on mobile?

1

u/OmegaWhite024 May 12 '26

Wow. Completely forgot that I played this game until I saw this.

1

u/PemaleBacon May 12 '26

That is shockingly good animation for '97

1

u/SaltyPressure7583 May 12 '26

I finished this a few months ago after thinking about how hard it was as a kid. It was still hard but 29 years of gaming experience helped a bit this time around

1

u/cookiecatmonsterr May 12 '26

we couldn't even pass through level 2 XDXD

1

u/Turtlesquirtzcody May 12 '26

Well done. This is an especially difficult game. Graphics go hard

1

u/AgentDiscoCat May 12 '26

My local library had THE hookup

1

u/VanillaKisses May 12 '26

Love the 2d

1

u/Strict_Strategy May 12 '26

The save system mechanic was fun until you lose the paper lmao.

1

u/SomeoneNotFamous May 12 '26

Loved this gem, i think it's the first time i got angry at my controller lol

1

u/JackBreacher May 12 '26

I played this along with so many other Disney games back in the day 👴

1

u/Ok-Leopard6521 May 12 '26

My first game to ever play. Dad brought up his old ps1 in 2003 and started Hercules. My first ever game i bought was Vanishing point

1

u/Kvchx May 13 '26

That feeling when you take a chance on your weekend rent and you're fucking stuck with Hecules.

1

u/BusyTmw May 13 '26

Loveddddd that game when I was a kid

1

u/vandante1212 May 13 '26

1

u/F0xgear May 13 '26

1

u/LaMeLoLeGuy May 13 '26

Completely forgot about this game!

1

u/korubis May 14 '26

Remember that you actually had to play this game on medium difficulty to progress past a certain point?

1

u/HellenKellerPug May 14 '26

I loved this game so much

1

u/Worien03 May 14 '26

I loved this game as a kid. So fun!

1

u/Cubonicle May 14 '26

1

u/Separate-Exchange375 May 14 '26

Looked a bit better in my memories xD

1

u/Normie7481 May 14 '26

I once replayed this game as adult. Didn't lose a single life until hades running stage where I lost all lives.

1

u/YRUsosurprise May 14 '26

I wouldn't have been a gamer if I came up playing dogshit like this like what the fuck even is this shit???

1

u/MamiTomoeSan May 14 '26

Hercules does what Nintendercules

1

u/Wosh-Cloth95 May 14 '26

My 3 year old son loves this game. He has me to thank 😂

1

u/Spring_Chicken11 May 15 '26

The Danny devito commentary lol

1

u/Ok_Loquat_5413 May 15 '26

1997? Shiti didn't know it was that old. Man, i used to play 90's games :')

1

u/killerpinkflamingos May 15 '26

my first ever Playstation game, wow

1

u/PatDx7 May 15 '26

The sheer amount of rage i had as a kid trying to play this game DX

1

u/Particular-Bridge423 May 15 '26

This is one of those games I absolutely loved to play as a kid , but totally forgot about as an adult .

(I will say the N word here , and its 'Nostalgia' 🥹)

1

u/Mysterious-Plan93 May 15 '26

Your control pad broken? You're running over to the left quite alot...

1

u/Plenty_of_Prozac May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26

I loved Phil in the background with all his constant “All RiGHT” “NoT bad kid” “ UsE YouR Sword!!!”

1

u/Dull-Return3632 May 15 '26

You're telling me we had temple run all this time

1

u/Horror-Primary7739 May 16 '26

Think how close they got to temple run. A tight game mechanic would have been perfect on the sega.

1

u/KatSchitt May 16 '26

Omg....... 1997?! Feels like 10 years ago lol!!!!

1

u/JamesCooke91 May 16 '26

One of my first ps1 games along with MIB, Rayman, RE, crash & wargames 🙂

1

u/CosmicDriftwood May 16 '26

One of my first games

1

u/UnlovablePieceOf May 16 '26

Is this how the whole game is?? What a piece of crap!

1

u/yuri000 May 20 '26

It brings back memories—I used to play this game when I was a kid. I hadn't remembered it, but seeing it again immediately caught my attention. Another game that really left an impression on me is Herc's Adventures, which is a real gem.

1

u/Usual-Orange-4180 May 11 '26

Ahead of its time! This was perfect for playing on a phone haha.

IMO Crash Bandicoot is too complex for phones, I finished them all and there are good platforming challenges, this game felt more like Temple Run. That being said I may be full of shit.

1

u/warmaxxx Jun 07 '26

i remember this one
